Chapter 18: Chapter 18: The Roar of Twilight.
The Twilight Lion charged forward like a golden storm, its claws flashing with a light that seemed to slice through the air. Xu Tian was the first to react, calling upon the power of his martial spirit. A glowing sphere appeared behind him, radiating a stifling heat as his spirit rings began to glow.
"Yue Lian, cover the flanks! Tang San, look for a weak point in its defense. I'll stop it head on!" Xu Tian shouted, charging forward.
The Lion's first attack was devastating, a blast of light energy spreading out like a fiery wave. Xu Tian raised his sunfire-wrapped sword, blocking the blast with monumental effort. Despite his defense, the impact forced him back a few steps, leaving scorch marks on the ground.
"This beast spirit is no ordinary opponent," Tang San commented, as he activated his Blue Silver Grass. Vines began to spread across the ground, moving like snakes towards the Lion's paws.
The Lion roared as it sensed the threat, turning towards Tang San and releasing another burst of light. Tang San dodged accurately, his movements calculated and fluid.
"Xu Tian, keep his attention on you! I need time to immobilize him," he exclaimed as he continued to spread the vines.
---
Yue Lian, for her part, was channeling her lunar energy. Her eyes shone with a silver glow as she formed an arc of light between her hands. The cool, serene energy of her spirit contrasted with Xu Tian's fiery intensity.
"Xu Tian, coordinate with me. If we synchronize our attacks, we can throw him off balance," Yue Lian said, shooting him a quick glance.
Xu Tian nodded. "Understood. Prepare for my signal."
The Twilight Lion, now surrounded by Tang San's vines, roared furiously and began to release a burst of energy to break free. Xu Tian took advantage of that moment to charge towards him, raising his sword in both hands.
"Now, Yue Lian!"
Yue Lian fired a moonlight arrow just as Xu Tian released a burst of sunfire. The two energies met in midair, merging into a blinding burst of light that directly impacted the Lion.
The beast roared in pain, staggering as its golden fur dulled. Seizing the opportunity, Tang San activated an advanced skill of his Blue Silver Grass, completely enveloping the Lion in a cocoon of vines reinforced with spiritual energy.
"I got it!" shouted Tang San, holding his hands steady as the Lion struggled to break free.
---
However, the Lion was not giving up easily. With a final roar, it released a shockwave of energy that broke the vines and sent them all flying backwards. Tang San rolled on the ground, panting from the effort, while Yue Lian and Xu Tian struggled to stand up.
"We can't let it escape!" Xu Tian exclaimed, raising his sword once more.
Tang San took a deep breath, regaining his stance. "I have one last technique, but I'll need you to distract him for a few more seconds."
Yue Lian nodded, summoning a sphere of light that began to orbit around her. "Count on us. Xu Tian, let's go."
The two of them rushed towards the Lion, launching simultaneous attacks to keep it busy. The Lion, though weakened, was still fighting back fiercely, releasing bursts of light and lashing out with its massive paws.
Meanwhile, Tang San closed his eyes, concentrating deeply. The Blue Silver Grass grew again, but this time its energy intensified, taking on a dark, pulsating hue.
"Advanced Spiritual Cultivation: Heavenly Dragon Cage," he muttered, and the vines transformed into a massive structure, an ethereal cage that descended upon the Lion.
The beast spirit roared one last time before being completely trapped. The cage shone brightly, sealing the Lion within.
---
When the Lion finally stood still, Xu Tian, Yue Lian and Tang San slowly approached, their bodies exhausted but with a sense of accomplishment in the air.
"Good job, Tang San," Xu Tian said, patting him on the shoulder. "That technique was impressive."
Tang San nodded, his face serene but clearly exhausted. "It wouldn't have been possible without your help. This Twilight Lion was more powerful than I expected."
Yue Lian knelt beside the Lion, who was now still, his body beginning to dissipate into motes of light. "It seems to have left something behind," she said, pointing at a glowing crystal on the ground.
"A spiritual core," Tang San commented, carefully picking it up. "This one might be useful for someone who wishes to strengthen their light energy. Perhaps we should keep it."
Xu Tian nodded. "It might be useful later. We'll split the rewards when we reach a safe place."
With the Lion defeated and their path clear, the group continued their journey toward the Bay of Fallen Stars, their bonds strengthened by the battle they had just shared.
