Chapter 29: Chapter 29: Golden Dragon King
After helping Electrolux find a temporary residence in his sea of consciousness, Wang Rui didn't rush to leave his spiritual world.
He walked through a corridor, with vast forests and a corner of a lake visible outside the window. As he moved forward, the corridor behind him continually collapsed.
Rubble and bricks separated and then reassembled. The corridor behind Wang Rui twisted and spun like an image in a kaleidoscope.
The core structure in his spiritual world resembled a self-turning Rubik's cube, constantly twisting and reshaping.
In just a few seconds, the corridor where Wang Rui was standing had completely transformed.
The windows disappeared, and above him, crystal chandeliers hung from the ceiling at intervals. The walls were decorated with crimson wallpaper adorned with gold foil, and beneath his feet was a soft carpet in a blend of gold and red.
Wang Rui reached the end of the corridor where a large painting was hung on the wall.
In the painting, a golden dragon lay sleeping.
The golden dragon curled its body, using its wings to cover its eyes, stereo typically resting atop a mountain of treasure. As it breathed deeply, occasionally, gold coins rolled off the treasure pile.
"Thud, thud, thud," Wang Rui knocked three times on the frame.
The golden dragon in the painting suddenly woke up. It shifted its wings with a look of disdain and glanced at Wang Rui, its blood-red dragon eyes filled with annoyance from being disturbed. It then lazily moved aside, leaving only the high treasure pile in the image.
Wang Rui bent down and stepped into the painting.
As he passed through the frame, a subtle energy wave swept through the air. The scenery around him underwent a dramatic transformation.
Everything in Wang Rui's spiritual world was composed of his own spiritual energy, emanating the powerful yet peaceful aura of the Emperor Spirit Beast.
On the other side of the painting, however, the spiritual energy was filled with resentment and madness, and Wang Rui could even faintly smell a strong blood odor.
It was as if he had entered someone else's sea of consciousness.
In reality, that's exactly what happened.
He found himself in a somewhat modern-looking room, but the walls and furniture were all colored in blood red with dark gold accents.
At the center of the room was a blood-red sofa with a pair of long legs sticking out from the back.
Above, the ceiling was a large screen where someone was playing a game of Snake.
Looking at the skinny, small snake on the screen, Wang Rui couldn't help but wonder if the person inside the room had just started a new game before he entered.
"Well, the unworthy son finally remembers to visit his sealed-up father?" The person on the sofa spoke with a sarcastic tone.
Visiting my sealed father, my foot, Wang Rui rolled his eyes. Didn't this scene look just like a father who had been working all day coming home to see his lazy son playing games on the couch?
The Emperor Sacred Beast firmly believed that he and the person on the sofa were in a father-son relationship.
Wang Rui walked around to the other side of the sofa.
A tall young man with golden short hair and blood-red eyes was lounging on the sofa in a very twisted posture, holding a controller and playing the game.
This unkempt golden-haired youth was none other than the human form of the Golden Dragon King, who had been imprisoned by the God Realm.
Over ten thousand years ago, when Wang Rui was exploring his Eye of Fate ability, he unintentionally connected with the Golden Dragon King through the causal thread and bloodline link tied to himself.
To be precise, it was his consciousness that accidentally arrived in the Golden Dragon King's sea of consciousness through this link.
In all the hundreds of thousands of years since his birth, having only encountered female beings like his other half, the Silver Dragon King, and the two benevolent God Kings, he was now quite shocked by the unexpected appearance of his "big son" in the form of an old dragon.
Perhaps due to the boredom of being sealed away, the Golden Dragon King, though filled with hostility and anger left by the Dragon God, was surprisingly pleasant to the offspring of his bloodline—the Spirit Beast cub. To be specific, he was very down to earth, enjoying teasing others and had no airs about him.
He was completely different from his high and mighty soul beast counterpart.
"Move over." Wang Rui shoved aside the Golden Dragon King's legs and sat down on the sofa.
"You've taken form? Wait, what's with this face of yours? And why is your hair red?" The Golden Dragon King jumped up, tossing the controller aside, and reached out to grab Wang Rui's face.
"Spill it, who did you model this delicate face after? My handsome face is so good-looking, why didn't you base your form on me?" The Golden Dragon King scrutinized Wang Rui's face, "Wait, did you model it after that brat Di Tian? Well, well, my son looks like the Golden-Eyed Black Dragon King, Di Tian, just wait."
"Get off, get off." Wang Rui pushed his hand away and leaned back on the sofa, "My plan is starting."
The Golden Dragon King froze for a moment, "You've chosen a person? Well, your Fate Force has indeed become much denser."
"Mm, a good kid." Wang Rui said lightly.
"Tch, humans…" The Golden Dragon King sneered, "Trusting the wrong person, getting backstabbed, don't come crying to your old dad."
"Don't worry, I'll try to break through to the divine level myself."
"Are you really planning to walk the path of the God of Fate?" The golden-haired young man straightened up and said seriously. He gave Wang Rui a disdainful look. "The position of the God of Fate is too high. With your little body, do you think you can bear the fate of countless worlds? It's better to team up with Di Tian, eat half of my body in the Douluo Continent, and directly become the new Dragon God. Just consider it as me letting you inherit the family fortune early."
"The Dragon God led a group of divine beasts to fight the God Realm and still couldn't win. There are no beast gods left now, and the God Realm has fully recovered. Reviving the Dragon God wouldn't change anything. Moreover, the Silver Dragon King wouldn't even consider me as a little snack to complete her bloodline," Wang Rui coldly snorted.
There was a deep conflict of interests between the Emperor Spirit Beast and the Silver Dragon King regarding divine positions, an irreconcilable difference. They would never be able to team up.
Even now, the Silver Dragon King was still recovering from injuries beneath the Lake of Life. Occasionally, she would wake up to oppose the Spirit Beast's policies—perhaps the wise Soul Beast Leader, the Silver Dragon King, had her own reasons.
But more likely, she had no concrete reasons. She wasn't considering the interests of the soul beasts but was simply opposing Wang Rui's decisions out of spite. Anything the enemy decided, she would unconditionally oppose.
For example, opposing the coexistence of soul beasts and humans, opposing the recruitment of human talents, opposing the establishment of the Beast Sect and its promotion of contracts, opposing the investment of resources into soul-guided research... Wang Rui couldn't see how these decisions would benefit the soul beasts.
After all, compared to the Silver Dragon King, who had been sleeping underground, unknown to the beasts, the Emperor Spirit Beast with actual achievements was gaining momentum to become the true Soul Beast Leader.
And since the Soul Beasts were not in immediate danger, the Silver Dragon King preferred to suppress her potential opponents first—this was the flaw of all intelligent beings.
Wang Rui wasn't like Tang Wulin; it was completely normal for him not to align with the Silver Dragon King's mindset.
Even if the Silver Dragon King was a love-struck fool, their ideas were fundamentally different. The Silver Dragon King didn't have amnesia, nor was she suffering from a split personality. She directly viewed the threat from the Emperor Spirit Beast as a real threat. She just couldn't suppress Wang Rui now and couldn't directly eliminate him—she simply opposed everything he did.
"Isn't she waiting to eat me?" The Golden Dragon King propped up one leg and said, "As long as I'm not dead, she won't think about eating you, a defective little snack. But if I die in the God Realm and my powers don't return to Douluo, well... that's a different story."
"So you better hold out until my people come to the God Realm and unseal you... There's less than ten thousand years left. The God Realm will experience a space-time turbulence, and then you'll be able to escape the seal and return to the lower realm."
"I might not be able to hold out that long," the Golden Dragon King shrugged. "When I split, I bore more of the body's malice. Most of the anger, resentment, and madness of the body were left with me. And since I've been sealed in the Dragon Cocoon by the God Realm, these negative emotions couldn't be released and have been slowly wearing me down."
"Maybe in ten thousand years, when you pull me out of the seal, all that will be left is a lunatic who's lost all reason and just wants to destroy the God Realm," the Golden Dragon King said casually, as if he weren't the one on the brink of madness. "If that happens, you can have your spy take my powers and eat them, then go ahead and eat the Silver Dragon King."
"You'd better hold out. To resist the God Realm, we need at least three god-king level experts. If I alone become the Dragon God, it's definitely not enough," Wang Rui said irritably. "By the way, over two hundred years ago, your Golden Dragon Spear came to me."
"Hmm? Two hundred years ago?" The Golden Dragon King raised an eyebrow, his tone turning thoughtful. "Looks like the new Shura God really is a fool."
What does this have to do with Tang San? Wang Rui stared at the Golden Dragon King in confusion.
"Well, it was around the time after you came to see me last. You know I'm not very sensitive to time, but it was probably shortly after that," the Golden Dragon King said with a sinister smile. "Someone slightly pried open my seal and took some of my power... I smelled the foul godly power of the Shura God, mixed with a seafood scent."
"The best part is that when he resealed it, there was a tiny little mistake," the Golden Dragon King gestured with his pinky, "One part of the seal wasn't fully closed, leaving a small crack, and I could use that tiny gap for something."
"Be discreet, don't attract the God Realm's attention."
"You don't need to teach me," the Golden Dragon King scoffed. "Since you didn't get the Golden Dragon Spear when you were born, it must have been tightly sealed by those god-kings. It couldn't have gone to the lower realm without a reason. Now it's most likely that after the old Shura God left, his successor got greedy and carelessly unsealed it, trying to use my powers to wield my weapon. I'm not boasting; the full version of the Golden Dragon Spear is far better than his trident."
He thought for a moment and then solemnly warned, "The Golden Dragon Spear must have been sealed with many other seals by the god-kings. The God Realm must have ways to track its whereabouts. Keep it hidden, and don't use it yourself."
Wang Rui slowly tapped his knee with his fingers.
"I'll use it myself. I'll have a puppet clone simulate the Golden Dragon Martial Soul and wield the Golden Dragon Spear," he muttered thoughtfully. "Tang San probably... sees the puppet with the Golden Dragon Spear as the inheritor of the Golden Dragon King's bloodline. He's using some tricks to steal the bloodline from the puppet. Ha, but the puppet doesn't have any bloodline. I've also used some tricks to deceive him."
"Does this mean my split identity is successful?" Wang Rui murmured softly. "From Tang San's reaction, it seems he doesn't know that the Emperor Spirit Beast has the bloodline of the Golden Dragon King... Well, back then, when the God Realm was looking for the descendants of the Golden Dragon King, they didn't find me. And Tang San never saw me in person. Only Di Tian and Zi Ji know about the Emperor Spirit Beast's Golden Dragon King bloodline. Other fierce beasts don't know about this secret..."
"You made a puppet clone?" The Golden Dragon King interrupted Wang Rui's mumbling. "Nice. If you can't bear the full intensity of the God of Fate's position, you can have the clone bear part of the pressure. But be careful not to give yourself split personalities."
"Is it really possible?" Wang Rui asked in surprise.
"Otherwise, why do you think Life and Destruction can merge into the God of Creation?" The Golden Dragon King said lazily. "Some divine powers are too strong for one person to bear alone. Creation is like this, and Fate... probably is too. It's too vast. Congratulations, kid, you've stepped onto a brand-new path. On this road, there's probably no one who can help you."
"...Thanks for the cold water," Wang Rui rolled his eyes. "Time's almost up, I should go."
"Get lost, brat." The Golden Dragon King leaned back on the sofa, and a new game controller appeared in his hand.
"See you next time," Wang Rui said softly.
The little snake on the ceiling resumed its movement, eating one bean after another.
...
The Emperor Sacred Beast left.
The relaxed expression on the Golden Dragon King's face instantly disappeared, and pain and madness slowly climbed onto his face.
The room, intertwined with gold and blood, began to gradually dissolve, with blood-red molten metal dripping down like fresh blood. The smell of rust and smoke spread, and the air became thick with it.
Angry curses, vengeful roars, and chilling screams echoed, layer upon layer, in this space.
When the Dragon God was split in two, it wasn't just his body and power that were cut; his soul was divided as well.
Both the Golden Dragon King and the Silver Dragon King had flawed personalities.
The Silver Dragon King carried most of the Dragon God's positive emotions, such as love and hope, and she also possessed softness and hesitation... perhaps too much softness, too love-stricken.
On the other hand, the Golden Dragon King harbored most of the Dragon God's negative emotions, such as anger, resentment... and despair.
It could be said that before meeting the Spirit Beast, he was trapped in the seal, only thinking about how to destroy himself, how to destroy the God Realm, and take revenge on all the gods in the God Realm. As long as he could get revenge, even if it meant dying together, it would be a victory.
Only after meeting the Sacred Beast did the Golden Dragon King develop some positive emotions of his own, and with those, he barely managed to maintain his sanity without fully losing control.
The walls completely collapsed and dissolved, revealing an endless sea of blood outside, with towering red waves crashing up and down, and the deafening wails echoing nonstop.
"Hey, Sacred Beast, whatever you're going to do, you better do it fast..." Golden dragon scales climbed up the Golden Dragon King's cheek, and his blood-red eyes were gradually overtaken by madness. "Otherwise, you'll only receive your father's inheritance."
Next, his humanoid form disappeared, leaving only the golden dragon struggling in a sea of blood.
