Douluo Dalu 1: The Tang Family Rebel

Chapter 19: Chapter 19: The Body is the Foundation

Since the day they helped Yun Chuan's martial spirit obtain a soul ring, Bibi Dong and her peers in the Spirit Hall concluded after much discussion that the reason Yun Chuan couldn't wield his hammer martial spirit stemmed from his frail physique. After all, he was only six years old, and his body hadn't fully developed yet.

Thus, his current top priority wasn't increasing his spirit power or filling all five spirit rings but rather strengthening his body and enhancing his physical fitness.

Yun Chuan wholeheartedly agreed with their arrangement. He wasn't in a hurry to add spirit rings because he could sense that while absorbing spirit rings enhanced his physical fitness, it also put immense pressure on his body. At six years old, bearing two ten-thousand-year spirit rings was already the limit.

If he dared to add another ring, it would likely cause his meridians to burst from the overwhelming power!

This principle is akin to someone who can carry 50 kg. If you add another 50 kg to their load, they'll undoubtedly collapse. When your body isn't strong enough, it's unwise to push it too far.

As for being stuck at level 50 without additional spirit rings? Yun Chuan wasn't concerned. His innate level 50 spirit power was such a rare gift that cultivating it further was as natural to him as eating or drinking. Having reached this level at just six years old, he had already far outpaced countless others.

His level of talent couldn't be constrained by the usual standards of spirit masters. Unlike ordinary spirit masters who must train diligently while they're young, Yun Chuan didn't need to rush. His growth in spirit power came effortlessly, simply because of his top-tier innate talent.

So, instead of rushing to add spirit rings, Yun Chuan needed to focus on ensuring his body could handle the power of his martial spirit. Only then could he add more rings.

The two ten-thousand-year spirit rings he absorbed earlier had strengthened his body to some degree. However, this enhancement wasn't enough to support the addition of a third ten-thousand-year spirit ring.

Yun Chuan felt helpless about this situation. Despite his level 50 spirit power enabling him to theoretically absorb five ten-thousand-year spirit rings consecutively, his young age and underdeveloped body forced him to set that ambition aside for now. It was frustrating, to say the least.

Beginning Physical Training

Under the guidance of the Spirit Hall's supreme authority, Yun Chuan officially began his physical training.

Early Morning.

As the sun peeked over the horizon, Yun Chuan was woken up by the female pontiff. Rubbing his sleepy eyes, he stumbled into the washroom to freshen up. After brushing his teeth and washing his face, he changed out of his pajamas into a small training outfit. Then, holding hands with the pontiff, he was led to breakfast.

Following a hearty and nutritious meal, they rested briefly before the pontiff took Yun Chuan in her arms and soared out of Spirit City.

The soft, fresh morning breeze brushed past them as the natural beauty below unfolded, filling Yun Chuan with awe.

They finally landed on a long, flat dirt road that seemed to stretch endlessly.

The pontiff set Yun Chuan down and retrieved a vest-like object from her spatial soul tool. Its metallic luster and significant weight suggested it wasn't ordinary.

"Mom, what's this?" Yun Chuan asked as he accepted the vest. The moment it landed in his hands, he nearly stumbled. He barely managed to steady himself, realizing it weighed several hundred pounds. What kind of metal was this? It defied logic!

"Yun'er, from today onward, your task is to wear this vest and run the entire length of this road," Bibi Dong said gently, pointing down the seemingly endless path. "You can do it. Mom believes in you."

In the absence of special physical cultivation techniques on the Douluo Continent, spirit masters relied on basic exercise to strengthen their bodies—like running and weight training. These methods, though simple, were undeniably effective.

"Mom, I'm only six. Carrying something this heavy every day will stunt my growth!" Yun Chuan protested, his delicate face showing a pitiful expression. "Could we start lighter? Maybe a few pounds—or a few dozen?"

He felt utterly defeated. This method of physical training was not what he had imagined. Spirit Hall, with its centuries-old legacy, didn't have any advanced techniques for enhancing the body?

But Bibi Dong wasn't swayed. Although her heart ached for Yun Chuan, she firmly believed in the principle of tough love. The weight of the vest was carefully calculated—it was heavy but still within Yun Chuan's capabilities as someone with level 50 spirit power and two ten-thousand-year rings.

After a moment of hesitation, Bibi Dong reassured him. "Don't worry, Yun'er. You won't stop growing tall." Her voice was soft but resolute. With the support of his spirit power, she knew his development wouldn't be affected.

And so, despite his protests, Yun Chuan reluctantly donned the vest and started running down the road.

At first, Yun Chuan felt it wasn't as difficult as he had feared. His level 50 spirit power and the physical boost from his spirit rings made carrying the several-hundred-pound vest manageable. He even thought it might not be as hard as it seemed.

But as time passed and the distance grew, his steps slowed. The vest felt heavier, and his legs began to ache.

"Haah… Haah…"

His breathing became labored, and golden spots danced in his vision. He realized his body was nearing its limit.

But the road ahead stretched endlessly.

Should he stop to rest? His mother hadn't explicitly forbidden breaks.

As the thought crossed his mind, Yun Chuan began to waver.
