Chapter 143: Chapter 143 The Impact of Superman!
The movie story gradually unfolds.
From a young age, Clark realizes he different from others, but his adoptive parents teach him to suppress his abilities and blend in with ordinary people.
One day, however, Clark powers intensify unexpectedly. His x-ray vision and super-hearing overwhelm him, causing him immense distress.
To others, Clark becomes the "freak."
Years pass.
During a school field trip, their bus plunges into a river.
Clark lifts the bus and pushes it to shore, saving everyone and becoming a hero.
Afterward, Clark transitions from being seen as a "freak" to being perceived as a "powerful freak."
The discrimination doesn't lessen.
Clark struggles with his identity.
His adoptive parents urge him to avoid showcasing his abilities and to live as an ordinary person. They also reveal his true origins.
Learning he is an alien, Clark begins to accept his reality.
He eventually learns to conceal his powers.
As an adult.
Clark moves to Metropolis and becomes a journalist at the Daily Planet, where he meets his future love interest, Lois Lane.
During this time, Clark inadvertently exposes a fraction of his abilities while thwarting a robbery, effortlessly subduing the assailant.
This scene is deliberately humorous, eliciting chuckles from the audience.
From the point where Clark arrives in Metropolis, the movie diverges significantly from its original version, with subtle changes to the plot.
The original Man of Steel was highly polarizing, with mixed reviews. Its box office performance barely broke even, and it was far from a success.
In a Marvel-dominated world where Superman brand recognition was nowhere near as strong, following the original script would have guaranteed a loss.
Anton wasn't naive.
After extensive discussions with the screenwriter, Browning, they retained much of the original plot and kept General Zod as the antagonist. However, the pacing and tone were altered to be lighter and more humorous. The result was a popcorn blockbuster full of dazzling special effects.
Watching from their private screening, Nick Fury couldn't help but think of Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers, as he saw Superman display his abilities.
Both were "superhumans."
However, Carol powers weren't as versatile as those displayed by Superman.
Super strength, super-hearing, invulnerability, x-ray vision!
Even though only a few abilities were shown so far, they were enough to set Superman apart from ordinary humans.
"Aliens!"
Nick Fury face grew grim.
If Krypton were real and an entire race like Superman existed in the universe...
The implications were terrifying.
One Superman was already formidable. If an entire planet of Kryptonians were to arrive on Earth, humanity wouldn't stand a chance.
Aliens, each a "Superman"?
What could Earth possibly do to resist?
Launch nuclear weapons?
Even then, a war of that scale would likely render Earth uninhabitable for its own people.
Nick Fury expression remained grave.
Meanwhile, Tony Stark, sitting in another theater, reached the same conclusion. Superman abilities seemed like a universal cheat code, prompting Tony to question the character plausibility in reality.
Clark and Lois settle into a routine life.
However, Lois begins to notice something unusual about Clark. It feels as though her boyfriend is hiding something significant from her.
This realization leaves Lois frustrated and upset.
One day, in an attempt to ease the tension in their relationship, Clark suggests they take a trip to the Arctic.
Upon arriving in the frozen wilderness, Clark unexpectedly picks up strange sounds through his super-hearing—like a call from his own kind.
The realization snaps him into focus. Later that night, while Lois is asleep, Clark ventures deeper into the Arctic to investigate.
Lois wakes to find Clark missing. Concerned, she sets out to search for him but accidentally slips and falls into a deep crevasse in the ice.
Clark x-ray vision, telescopic sight, and super-hearing immediately alert him to Lois peril.
In a moment of desperation.
Clark takes off, soaring into the sky at supersonic speed. He shatters mountain peaks as he hurtles straight into the icy chasm.
Just in time, he rescues Lois.
Both Lois and Clark are stunned.
Clark, most of all, as he realizes—
He can fly.
Midway through the movie.
Nick Fury and his team were once again taken aback.
Flight!
Superman revealed yet another extraordinary ability.
How many powers does this guy have?
Could Superman really exist?
Is it possible that such a being with multifaceted powers, seemingly godlike in nature, truly walks among us?
No wonder Superman biological father said that line in the trailer:
"They will revere him as a god!"
Flight.
Watching this scene, coupled with the abilities Superman had already displayed, not only the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents but also Tony Stark, Eddie, DC fans, and countless others began to grasp just how formidable Superman truly was.
If a superhero like this actually existed, it would be exactly as the movie suggested.
A god!
A figure akin to a divine being!
Eddie found himself lost in thought.
He had always believed that Superman would eventually appear in the real world.
But witnessing such an exaggerated portrayal in the movie, even Eddie began to doubt.
Could someone like this really exist in reality?
Even for an alien, isn't this a bit much?
Eddie knew that asking Anton would get him no definitive answers, so after a brief moment of contemplation, he returned his attention to the movie.
After Clark rescues Lois, he decides to reveal everything to her. And, as if to underscore his otherworldly nature, he demonstrates yet another ability.
Heat vision!
His eyes glow red as beams of intense energy shoot forth, instantly melting the ice blocking their path.
At the same time, the frost within the crevasse—untouched by the beams—begins to melt, as if exposed to the warmth of a summer sun.
This scene leaves audiences stunned once again. By now, even the most skeptical viewers are convinced of Superman unparalleled power.
Such an overwhelmingly powerful superhero!
Even if he were real, many would rather he didn't exist.
It is the fear of the unknown.
The awe of unimaginable strength.
Audiences begin to question whether this alien superhero is truly a friend to humanity.
Soon after, in the movie, Clark and Lois discover the anomaly Clark sensed earlier.
A Kryptonian spaceship buried beneath the Arctic ice, hidden for tens of thousands of years!
Clark recognizes the design immediately—it resembles a scaled-up version of the pod he was sent to Earth in as an infant.
Lois is left speechless by the revelation.
When Clark inserts a key bearing the Kryptonian "S" symbol into the ship console, the entire vessel activates and responds to his presence.
Suddenly, a figure appears—a holographic projection of Jor-El, Clark biological father and Krypton leading scientist.
Jor-El explains his existence.
He is a digital memory, a fragment of Jor-El consciousness stored within the ship. Though not alive, he can interact and guide Clark.
For the first time, Clark fully uncovers the truth about his origins.
Overwhelmed, he embraces Lois.
As Clark begins training in the Arctic to better understand his abilities, his bond with Lois deepens.
During this period, the full extent of Superman capabilities is unveiled, leaving the audience in awe.
Many viewers begin to imagine themselves in Clark shoes.
If I were Superman, with such incredible power, I'd never hide it. I'd embrace my abilities.
But Superman adheres to the promise he made to his adoptive parents. He decides to keep his powers hidden forever.
When their Arctic retreat ends, Clark and Lois return to their ordinary lives.
One day, Clark visits his adoptive parents.
Suddenly, the sky darkens.
A massive tornado forms in the distance.
In the ensuing chaos, Jonathan Kent is swept into the storm while trying to save the family dog.
With so many people watching, Jonathan knows Clark could save him but chooses to signal Clark not to act. He doesn't want Clark to reveal his powers to the world.
Jonathan believes humanity isn't ready yet and wants Clark to enjoy his current life.
In an act of selflessness, Jonathan sacrifices himself.
After Jonathan is buried, Clark is devastated.
But Martha Kent, his mother, does not blame him. She understands Jonathan self-sacrifice.
Life resumes.
As Jonathan had wished, Clark and Lois begin planning their wedding. For the first time, Clark feels a sense of normalcy and happiness.
Clark starts to believe Jonathan was right. Perhaps it is better to keep his powers hidden.
A normal life is the happiness he has always longed for.
Clark, however, is unaware that danger is silently approaching Earth.
At the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and the U.S. Northern Command, senior military officials hold an emergency meeting.
NASA has detected an anomaly in space.
A shadow—an alien spacecraft.
The discovery sends shockwaves through the military, and they immediately move to suppress the news.
Attempts to contact the spacecraft are met with silence.
The military realizes the visitors mean no good.
Days later.
Despite their efforts, the news leaks.
Civilian observatories and amateur astronomers spot the spacecraft near the moon.
The information spreads rapidly as they reach out to media outlets.
News of the spacecraft goes public, causing a global uproar.
Clark feels a growing sense of unease.
And then it happens.
The aliens hack into Earth communication networks, decoding all human languages and broadcasting a single message across every screen—TVs, phones, computers, and even digital billboards.
A low, ominous voice echoes across the planet.
The message is repeated in Chinese, English, Italian, Spanish, French, German, and hundreds of other languages.
Its meaning is the same in every tongue:
"You are not alone."
The audience watched, utterly absorbed, but with an undeniable chill creeping through their hearts.
They couldn't help but think back to the recent alien attack in New York.
The storyline of the movie seemed to echo that real-world event.
Aliens coveting Earth!
Perhaps Earth shouldn't greet extraterrestrial visitors with open arms.
Realizing that this movie was filmed before the alien invasion, some viewers widened their eyes as a thought occurred to them.
The Daily Bugle!
Batman!
And certain shadowy organizations!
These entities must have known about aliens long before the attack.
But to avoid mass panic, they likely withheld the information from the public until the alien invasion forced their hand.
Though speculative, these wild ideas eerily brushed against the truth.
And those who shared this train of thought were not few.
These viewers felt a mix of excitement and fear.
The movie had struck a nerve, aligning perfectly with their heightened emotions, immersing them completely.
Even the agents from S.H.I.E.L.D. furrowed their brows.
They, too, believed this movie—and particularly this scene—was Anton way of sending a message.
But after much contemplation, they found no clear answers and could only keep watching.
"My name is General Zod. I come from a world far removed from yours. I have traversed countless stars to find you."
"One of our citizens has been living among you for decades. I demand that you hand him over to me. For reasons unknown, he has hidden his existence, striving to blend in among your people. He looks like you, but he is not one of you."
"To those who know his whereabouts, your planet fate lies in your hands."
"Kal-El, you have 24 hours to surrender yourself to us, or watch this world suffer the consequences!"
As Zod message ended, the screens across the world returned to normal.
Televisions, phones, computers, and billboards resumed their usual broadcasts.
But everyone knew Earth tranquility was shattered forever.
Humanity was not alone in the universe.
Aliens had arrived.
"Zod!"
Clark immediately understood that the person Zod was referring to was himself.
Finally.
He donned the Superman suit and set out to meet with the military searching for him.
Lois asked, "Why are you surrendering to Zod?"
Clark replied, "I'm surrendering to humanity. It not the same."
After negotiating with the military, Clark agreed to a meeting place where he would confront General Zod.
At the agreed location, Clark stood, flanked by countless military vehicles, tanks, and artillery.
Before the eyes of the world, Superman was taken away.
But General Zod betrayed the agreement.
He deployed a terraforming device to alter Earth atmosphere into Krypton, intending to reshape the planet to suit Kryptonian life.
Zod ultimate goal was to acquire the genetic codex entrusted to Clark by Jor-El, enabling the rebirth of Kryptonians on Earth.
The long-anticipated battle finally erupted.
This was the climactic showdown audiences had eagerly awaited.
Here, they witnessed Superman in his most powerful form.
The fight between Clark and General Zod, amplified by spectacular visual effects, was a sight to behold.
Skyscrapers crumbled effortlessly.
Mountains shattered with a single punch.
Their speed surpassed the sound barrier, sending shockwaves rippling across the land.
Zod armor was eventually broken, leaving him exposed to the sun rays. His body mutated, and his injuries healed rapidly.
At that moment, Zod understood why Clark was so powerful.
Invigorated by this revelation, Zod, leveraging his extensive combat experience, fought Clark with newfound intensity.
The battle resumed, fiercer than ever.
The battle rages on in the movie.
But Nick Fury can no longer watch it calmly.
Even though he found it improbable, the mere idea of a race that becomes stronger by basking in sunlight was utterly mind-boggling.
Fury was itching to leave the theater and find Anton to demand answers.
He had only one question:
Does Superman exist in this world?
Meanwhile, in Los Angeles, Tony Stark began to feel that the movie was venturing into absurdity.
Becoming stronger by absorbing sunlight?
If a being like Superman truly existed, it would completely upend Tony understanding of science.
He would rather eat the chair he was sitting on than believe that Superman was real.
As expected, the movie culminates in Clark defeating Zod.
Clark identity is exposed, and he fully steps into the role of a superhero. Revered as a god, he becomes the object of humanity admiration and worship.
Post-Credits Scene.
The actor playing Batman appears on screen.
"He dangerous!"
"People see him as a god!"
Batman, his face stern, watches footage on a television screen.
The broadcast shows Superman hovering in the sky during his battle with Zod, followed by a victorious snapshot captured by a reporter amidst the ruins.
In a low, deliberate tone, Batman states:
"But I cannot trust him."
