Chapter 1: Transmigration, A Coward, Deciding The Future.
Have you ever wondered what it feels to witness the impossible, Chen Mo not only witnessed it, but he became the impossible.
As a 25 years old Chinese youth, the theory of transmigration has been used quite frequently (Day and Night) till it becomes almost part of the Chinese culture.
Reading it in novels is one thing, living it is another thing entirely.
Chen Mo woke up with a terrifying headache, his head splitting apart as memories (foreign) impacted his psyche.
Haaa, transmigration..... Ethan Harper... Metropolis..... Gods in the sky..... City being tore apart. Chen Mo now
Ethan Harper woke up to chaos.
He wasn't in his dingy studio apartment anymore. Instead, he found himself lying in the middle of a bustling city street, surrounded by panicked screams and overturned cars. Smoke and dust filled the air, and the ground shook beneath him.
"What the hell—" he started, but his words were drowned out by an earth-shattering roar.
High above, two figures hurtled through the sky, their bodies colliding with the force of an explosion. One was a man in a red cape, the iconic "S" emblazoned on his chest. The other wore dark Kryptonian armor, his face twisted in fury.
Ethan's breath caught in his throat. He wasn't in china anymore nor any city in his original universe to be precise, non of that matter. This was Metropolis. And that was Superman, battling General Zod.
The realization hit him like a freight train. He wasn't just in a new place; he was in a new world.
"Is this a dream?" he whispered. But the sharp pain in his arm, likely from a piece of debris, told him otherwise.
A nearby explosion threw him to the ground. Ethan scrambled to his feet, his heart racing as he joined the throng of people fleeing the devastation. He ducked into an alley just as a car flew overhead, smashing into a building.
"This can't be happening," he muttered, his voice shaking. "This cannot be happening."
For hours, he survived on pure instinct, dodging collapsing buildings and falling debris. At one point, he saw Superman land hard on the pavement, his body skidding as Zod unleashed a torrent of heat vision. The sight was awe-inspiring and utterly terrifying.
Ethan kept running.
Time skip ( One Year)
Living in an alien world is terrifying enough, but living without superpowers or a system is actually a lot more worse. Other transmigrators have a daddy system but he had non, no means or avenue for power, no ability to upgrade with a simple tap, it was despairing. Without the system, after a brief moment of despair, he decided to grab the bull by the horn. Firstly, he investigated the universe he is currently trapped in,which he identified to be a variant of the DC cinematic universe. The event of Man of steel haven't started yet. So he had plenty of time to plan out how to survive in this world.
Two weeks after superman battle with zod, he found a job as a construction worker in metropolis, with the money he made from this, he enrolled himself in a martial art class, a gym, and a shooting range.
Ethan's life took a sharp turn after discovering his power after a year in metropolis. He actually discovered his power by mistake,
it was while being frustrated due to his innability to shoot properly that he discovered, gripping the pistol tightly that he had the ability to analyze the gun in his hands, with a simple thought, he could inject his mental powers into the gun to analyze its history, its composition and data and from it he could devise methods to reverse engineer it.
He was fascinated by what he discovered, because this means he was no longer powerless. Through weeks of careful research he discovered that his ability is known psychometry, the ability to analyze the history, data and memories of an object. This result as a fusion between his soul and the body he was currently occupying. The previous host had synesthesia, this illness combined with the unique condition of his soul resulted in psychometry. He spent days analyze objects, from everyday products to electrical appliances, guns and any other stuff he could get his hands on. Overtime, the excitement soon faded away.
Ethan decided to test his limits. He acquired a piece of Kryptonian tech—a damaged command key left behind from Zod's army. The moment he touched it, his mind exploded with knowledge. The device was so advanced that it made human technology look like toys.
For hours, Ethan worked, sketching designs and creating prototypes. When he finally looked up, he realized he had built a working replica of the command key, albeit with significant modifications.
"This is insane," he whispered, holding the glowing device in his hands. "I shouldn't be able to do this."
But he could.
From this experiment, he learnt the ultimate truth of his ability.
He discovered his weakness, not all object could be analyze, some don't respond, and some contained enough knowledge to Short circuit a human brain, so he had to be careful.
Ethan began to see his power as a gift, albeit a dangerous one. He avoided drawing attention to himself, knowing that figures like Lex Luthor or Amanda Waller would stop at nothing to exploit someone with his abilities.
Instead, he started working in secret, using his skills to help rebuild Metropolis. He accessed into government databases to track shipments of alien tech, ensuring they didn't fall into the wrong hands. He even anonymously repaired equipment for STAR Labs, slipping his work into their projects without revealing his identity.
But deep down, Ethan knew he couldn't hide forever. This was a world of heroes and villains, of gods and monsters. It was only a matter of time before his abilities brought him face to face with the people—and dangers—he'd been avoiding.
Ethan began to make plans for the future. From his blurry and fading memory, he recalled that Star Labs had an object he would be interested in analyzing. The mother box , an object of immense power, capable of turning its wielder into a god. It was this same box that led to Earth being invaded by Steppenwolf.
The problem was actually getting close to the box. His psychometry was not instant, he requires time to analyze, the more complicated an object is, the greater the energy and time needed to analyze it.
After careful deliberation he found a way, why sneak, hide or try to steal, why can't he just waltz in, get what he wants and walk out without being tagged a criminal.
The only way to do this is to become a genius, graduate and become a scientist. Get recruited by Star Labs and have all the time in the world to get close to the mother box.
For now, though, he had a mission. He wasn't a superhero, but maybe he could be something else. A guardian of technology. A bridge between humanity and the incredible tools left behind by the chaos of the DC Universe.
