Chapter 30 - The Reason for the Fight (5)
Chapter 30. The Reason for the Fight (5)
Shinmo’s eyes widened.
‘Amazing!’
He wondered if what he was seeing was real. He felt like pinching his thigh.
‘Such a spirit…?!’
The three attacks of Yeonhojeong.
Each of those attacks had an invisible and tremendous spirit in them.
It was literally a spirit. It was not a killing intent, nor a fighting will.
It was like the huge army spirit that one could feel from the charge of tens of thousands of troops in the wilderness.
Yeonhojeong’s strike had an overwhelming presence in them. Even the same attack had a different weight.
“What? You said you were a brainiac?”
“Why are you so flustered?”
“You were so arrogant, but Chuseong is nothing, right?”
Some of the latecomers muttered.
‘Is that natural?’
In their eyes, Chuseong’s reaction must have been ridiculous. They must have thought that he blocked what he could easily avoid, and dodged what he could block.
But Shinmo knew.
‘He must have been overwhelmed.’
If he felt that much spirit, right in front of his nose, he must have felt a suffocating fear. That’s why he couldn’t show a proper response, or his original skill.
‘If Chuseong were me…?’
That was when.
“Wow, amazing!”
Shinmo turned his head to the side.
Yeonjipyung was looking at Yeonhojeong as if he was bewitched.
“Wow… How did he do that kind of qi?!”
Shinmo’s eyes flashed.
Yanghum tilted his head.
“Qi?”
“Yes?! You, you didn’t feel it?”
“…Yes?”
“The qi that your brother just emitted! Well, I don’t know if that’s qi or not… Anyway, you didn’t feel it?”
Yanghum looked confused. Not only that, but everyone in the Changyeongjo looked like they didn’t know what he was talking about.
Shinmo was surprised.
“Did you really feel it?”
“Yes? Oh, yes! Of course! How can you not feel such a huge… unbelievable qi?”
It’s normal not to feel it.
Shinmo was as surprised by Yeonjipyung as he was by Yeonhojeong.
‘He felt it? With the inner power of the great master?’
Yeonjipyung’s talent was said to be one of the best in the history of Yeon family.
But he was still a fifteen-year-old boy. He hadn’t even tasted the real martial arts yet, let alone bloomed.
And that boy felt the great master’s spirit from that far away?
‘Wow…’
How terrifying a sense he must have been born with, to see through the army spirit that only someone like him could feel?
Shinmo looked at Yeonjipyung and Yeonhojeong alternately.
‘The brothers are all monsters.’
Yeonhojeong. A warrior who emits a spirit that even Shinmo, the peak master of swordsmanship, feels afraid of.
Yeonjipyung. A genius who feels a spirit that is hard to feel unless he is a peak master, as if it was natural.
Shinmo let out a hollow laugh without knowing it.
“…The future of the Yeon family is really bright.”
“Yes?”
“Oh, no.”
Shinmo cleared his mind and turned his eyes back to the arena.
The fight was starting in earnest.
* * *
Clang!
The spear and the sword clashed, making a harsh metal sound.
‘Damn!’
His arm that swung the sword was numb. He would have followed up with another attack, but he missed the chance because of that brief gap.
And Yeonhojeong did not miss that gap.
Vroom! Chiririring!
Chuseong blocked sixteen spear attacks with his wild sword (亂劍).
It was the same as before. The weight that flowed through the sword (劍身) shook his shoulder beyond his elbow.
‘What kind of power is this?!’
Zzzz!
The strong sword that was struck down bounced back.
He slid the spear shaft with his wrist, but the sword that hit the shaft bounced back with such a fierce recoil.
It was not a matter of the quantity or quality of his inner power. He was born with a strong grip. He couldn’t believe that he could emit such a power from his skinny body.
Yeonhojeong’s attack continued.
Papapapang!
The spear attack that pierced the air fiercely was venomous, like a viper.
It was an attack that made him unable to dodge or counter. Chuseong instinctively unleashed his sword.
Clang! Tiiing! Kaang!
The spear tip, the spear shaft, and the sword tangled, making a chilling sound.
The sound told him. If he got hit, he would die for sure.
The clash of the spear and the sword told him. This fight was not friendly.
The atmosphere in the arena became fierce in an instant.
Pabababak! Clang!
They each stepped on the ground and swung their weapons, without giving an inch of gap.
The faces of the latecomers who were doubtful of Chuseong’s skill were pale.
‘This is too brutal!’
‘Isn’t someone going to get hurt badly?’
‘The problem is not getting hurt… They’re going to die at this rate.’
But no one tried to stop them.
No, they couldn’t. The sound of the clashing spear and sword, and the fierceness that permeated the sound, dominated the whole field.
A one-on-one fight that no one could interfere with. It was like the ancient generals of the Three Kingdoms era fighting a duel, with a fierce scent of battle.
Kwajik!
The spear tip stuck to the arena floor.
It was a strike that tried to blow off his ankle. If Chuseong hadn’t dodged, the fight would have been over in three moves.
‘This!’
Chuseong dodged to the left.
Finally, his eyes were filled with killing intent.
‘You little brat, you asked for it!’
Yeonhojeong’s eyes flashed. He felt the killing intent that flowed from Chuseong’s body for a brief moment.
Wooong.
The wall-breaking sword (壁破劍) rose.
His eyes glowed blue, and his hand that held the spear shaft had thick veins.
When Chuseong kicked the ground to approach,
Paaang!
He preempted the timing and attacked with a one-step forward, two-step spear attack. It was a natural movement like water, but the spear tip had no mercy.
It was such an irregular rhythm that he couldn’t block or dodge. There was only one way to avoid this fierce spear technique.
“Yikes!”
Tadadak!
Chuseong’s body rolled on the arena floor.
Yeonhojeong’s eyes flashed.
Kwadeuk! Kwadeuk!
Yeonhojeong was merciless. He chased after Chuseong who rolled to avoid and stabbed his spear wildly, and the arena floor shook every time the spear tip stuck.
He was persistent and brutal. He attacked viciously like a beast hunting its prey.
Chuseong felt like he was going crazy.
He rolled on the ground to avoid, using the shameful method called lazy donkey roll (懶驢打滾), and he still didn’t give him a chance to get up.
He was angry. His anger rose to the top of his head.
“Uaaa! You son of a bitch!”
Kaang!
Chuseong’s body moved without any formality as he kicked the ground and approached. He couldn’t hold back his anger and moved like a beast.
Booak!
Was it an unexpected movement? The spear tip tore his shoulder. But it was not a fatal wound.
‘This bastard! It’s my turn!’
His face was red with shame and anger.
‘Die!’
Flash!
Chuseong’s sword stabbed at Yeonhojeong’s neck.
“Huk! Brother?!”
“Da, dangerous!”
A moment of life and death.
Kwaang!
With a blast of sound, Chuseong’s body flew to the center of the arena.
Blood spurted from his mouth. He was injured by the tremendous recoil.
‘What, what is this?!’
Even Chuseong, who was hit, couldn’t see what martial art it was.
He hastily kicked the ground and got up, and finally saw Yeonhojeong’s figure.
Woo woo woo woo!
It was truly fantastic.
He couldn’t tell if it was an illusion, or if the qi (氣) actually made that shape.
It wasn’t just Chuseong. Everyone here saw it.
The two translucent hexagonal patterns that slowly surrounded Yeonhojeong’s body.
It was a large turtle shell (龜甲) that covered his upper body. On both shoulders, there was something long that looked like a snake or a dragon.
It was a mysterious sight.
The shape itself was bizarre, but no one who saw it felt it was strange or grotesque.
“Hoo.”
The black tortoise (玄武) wriggled along with Yeonhojeong’s breath.
Chuseong’s face twisted.
“What kind of sorcery (邪術) is that!”
Paaang!
His eyes rolled back, and a bright green light (綠光) glowed from his sword.
It was the true essence sword technique (真身絶學) that he had learned with all his heart, the three swords of chasing life (追命三劍). He had never failed to take the enemy’s life after using this sword technique.
Yeonhojeong’s eyes emitted a cold light.
Kooong!
He took a step forward, and his step was different from before.
It was much slower and heavier. At the same time, it was smooth and natural.
‘…?!’
Chuseong’s eyes widened.
The sword that shot out like lightning seemed to slow down.
No, it didn’t seem to slow down, it slowed down. Even the sword attack that aimed for Yeonhojeong’s heart was twisted and missed.
‘What is this!!’
Whiiing! Chiiing!
A wind that seemed to tear the flesh blew from all directions.
The dark wind of the north, the water spirit of the sea, the black tortoise’s appearance was welcomed by the black tortoise qi (玄武氣).
That wind, which was like an illusion, imbued Yeonhojeong’s spear with the absolute defense technique of the four gods (四神武).
The black tortoise’s technique, the strange pillar immobility (怪柱不動).
The strange pillar immobility was followed by the iron technique, the twelve walls of the north sky (北天十二壁).
Clang! Clang! Clang!
“Kruk!”
Chuseong felt a shock that seemed to break his wrist.
The three swords of chasing life was a chain attack, aiming for three fatal points (死穴) of the enemy with three sword attacks. All of those chain attacks were bounced back.
Wooong!
A heavy and dark wind cut through the spear tip, and smoke rose up.
Chiiik!
The rising smoke shook and whipped the black tortoise qi.
The three chain moves (連環三招) of the twelve walls of the north sky, the triple turtle wall (三重龜壁). It was a supreme technique that had no difference in power whether it was performed with bare hands or weapons.
It was not only the twelve walls of the north sky.
All of the four gods’ martial arts were like that. The four gods martial arts (四神武) were invincible martial arts and heavenly techniques, and they did not distinguish between bare hands and weapons.
Not only that.
The black tortoise’s martial art was the ultimate defense, but as with all martial arts, it could also be used as an attack depending on the user’s hand.
Whooong.
Yeonhojeong’s technique was peculiar.
His movements were small and slow. But before he knew it, he had already reached Chuseong’s nose. It was the strange pillar immobility.
“This bastard!”
Pang!
Chuseong was tenacious. He swung his sword wildly, holding it to the end, as if he was going to slash his opponent.
Taak!
He had not held the spear shaft until now, but his left hand grabbed the lower part of the spear.
And the attack began.
Kwadeudeuk!
“Kraak!”
Chuseong’s wrist broke.
No one saw how it broke. No one could see if he hit the spear shaft, or if he hit the spear blade.
It wasn’t over there. No, Yeonhojeong’s attack was just beginning.
Hwaak!
A six-foot-long spear, with the weight of the deep sea in the spear tip, began to sprout the fangs of a beast.
The martial art that he used to attack Chuseong before he unleashed the black tortoise, the beast spear technique (野獸槍法).
Yeonhojeong, who swung the beast spear with the black tortoise qi, had many things in his spear tip, but mercy was not one of them.
The terrifying iron spear began to cut Chuseong’s body mercilessly.
Pabababak!
“Kraaak!”
