Danmachi: Reaper

Chapter 27: Executive musings

It had been almost a week, or rather six days since the incident on the 17th floor.

Because of Kelvin's fight against Goliath last time, he fell into a coma and still hasn't regained consciousness until now.

Some members of the Familia, especially Lefiya were naturally worried about Kelvin's condition. After all, she was the one who was with him when they fought Goliath.

Thinking of Kelvin's words last time, Lefiya finally realized why she became an adventurer, why she wanted to be strong, but she still doubted whether she could really do that?

After all, Lefiya was just a little Elf who was previously isolated in the school district. She had not experienced any bloodshed in the past, nor did she have much experience needed to build a mentality like Aki or anyone else.

In the end, all Lefiya could do was lament this, while continuing to train to become stronger.

On the other hand, Sylpha would often visit them, or rather Kelvin.

She would be there from dawn until late at night, before finally returning home and coming again at dawn.

This had been happening since Kelvin fell into a coma, but no one had asked about it, considering Sylpha was Kelvin's personal servant, so it was only natural for Sylpha to be worried about Kelvin's condition.

"How is his condition, when will he wake up again, Airmid?" Loki asked grimly. Biting his own nails, he was naturally worried about one of the potential rookies in his family.

"I don't think it's a problem. I've healed his physical wounds, now he's just mentally tired. Let her rest for a while." The girl, Airmid Teasanare, replied calmly.

Even so, on closer inspection, the tone of her voice contained gloom. That could not be separated from Kelvin's previous condition.

When Sylpha brought Kelvin to Twilight Manor, they immediately called Airmid to heal Kelvin.

After all, with Airmid's magic, there was nothing that couldn't be healed. That was why he was called the Dea Saint-the best healer in the world.

Even so, the initial condition when Airmid healed Kelvin really made him frown.

The muscles of his right arm were torn, some parts of his arm were also gone, and even the bones in his arm could be clearly seen due to the skin being peeled off so deeply.

In addition, Kelvin's temperature at that time was so high, it was as if he had just been boiled by the lava of a volcano and it was a little troublesome for him.

Even so, as Airmid chanted her magic spell, Kelvin's condition began to improve. Even so, Kelvin was still unconscious until now, which itself was related to the side effects of the [Madness Increase], which he used the other day.

"Alright, I'm horrified. I think we can let him rest for a while." Loki nodded resignedly.

This was completely out of his expectation. Originally, they had brought in Airmid in the hope that he could heal Kelvin completely.

Although Kelvin's physical wounds had healed completely, his mental wounds were stronger than they expected.

Suddenly, Loki remembered something about Kelvin's magic.

Sacrificing common sense for extraordinary power ....

Realizing this, Loki's lips immediately curled up. As he suspected, this magic was certainly not a user-friendly magic.

Now, he began to wonder if he might be cursed? Considering that almost all of his family members must have troublesome skills or magic that require sacrifices to gain great power....

Starting from Finn, Ais, Tiona and Tione, then Kelvin ....

"I'll give her medicine if she wakes up. For now, just make sure no one disturbs him." Airmid said while looking at Loki.

Although he had a calm personality, but he could also get angry once in a while, for example if someone disturbed his patients during the rehabilitation period.

As Airmid takes great pride in his work as a healer, he makes sure all his patients undergo the best treatment in peace.

He doesn't like it when anyone disturbs him while doing his work. Especially if that person interfered with her patients' rehabilitation.

"Mn, I understand. Thank you for coming." Loki nodded. After all, with Kelvin's current condition, no one would dare to disturb him and he would remain under very tight guard.

Moreover, when Sylpha came, she continued to stand next to Kelvin's bed without moving an inch, and did not let others disturb him.

After giving Loki some prescriptions and medicine, Airmid then left them.

Soon after Airmid left Sylpha, who was standing guard outside the room, walked into the room.

"How was it, what did he say?"

That was what came out of Sylpha's mouth as she entered the room.

Sighing, Loki placed the medicines in his hand onto the table, looking at Sylpha helplessly, "It's fine. Kelvin's condition has improved so far, I don't think it will be long before he can finally wake up."

"I see ...."

"But, are you sure?" Loki suddenly asked, looking at Sylpha with an indescribable gaze.

Different from Sylpha's usual appearance, the current Sylpha felt emptier, lacking any life or vigor in her actions.

Moreover, Sylpha's face also looked dull, while thick dark circles appeared around her eyes.

"Hmm?"

"I know you always keep watch around the manor at night. But, are you sure you won't sleep? I remember you haven't even slept at all since then." Loki said with a serious expression.

At first, he was just indifferent to Sylpha's actions of coming to the Manor in the morning and taking care of Kelvin.

But, he did not expect that Sylpha would stand guard around the Manor at night, making sure that there were no suspicious people who might hurt his Master.

"It's okay..., I'm fine...."

Sylpha's voice trailed off hollowly, evidence that she looked very tired from all the things she had done in the past week.

After all, Sylpha could not sleep before confirming Kelvin's condition, and she felt uncomfortable leaving Kelvin alone.

But, since she was not allowed to be in the Manor at night, Sylpha finally decided to stand guard outside the Manor, while keeping an eye on Kelvin's room from her bedroom window.

"Hah..., really stubborn." Loki held his head with a tired expression, "I don't know what that boy did to earn your loyalty this much."

Loki was really surprised by the two of them meeting. How could Sylpha act like this for Kelvin?

In fact, it would not be an exaggeration to say Sylpha would kill herself if Kelvin told her to do that.

That really made Loki curious. How did Kelvin manage to gain Sylpha's immense loyalty?

Sylpha only gave Loki a quick glance before completely ignoring him. She immediately stood next to Kelvin, obediently standing next to him to guard him even though it wasn't really necessary.

Loki only sighed helplessly. Did this girl have a mental breakdown because of Kelvin's condition?

In the end, he decided to ignore Sylpha's actions and went to meet the other three executives.

*****

"So, what's his condition, Loki?" Finn asked with both curiosity and worry.

During Kelvin's treatment, neither Finn nor the other Family members were allowed to see Kelvin. It wasn't that they weren't allowed, but Sylpha was against everyone seeing Kelvin including Finn himself.

Luckily, Sylpha was a little lenient about Loki and let him go to confirm Kelvin's condition.

"It's okay, now there's nothing to worry about." Loki shook his head with a sigh, "if there's no problem, he should wake up in a few days."

"I see, thank goodness if that is the case." Finn let out a sigh of relief.

Since he couldn't confirm Kelvin's condition directly, Finn and the other members relied on Loki to check on Kelvin's condition every time.

With Sylpha guarding Kelvin all the time, they had little trouble entering his room. Moreover, Sylpha was also still guarding Kelvin at night, even though she was guarding Kelvin from outside the Manor.

Still, none of them complained about this. After all, Sylpha had known and lived with Kelvin longer than any of them.

Sylpha knew Kelvin better than anyone else in the Family. Moreover, Sylpha's identity was also known to them beforehand.

There were no personality issues or other issues that they considered a threat to Kelvin. That was the reason why they let Sylpha take care of Kelvin.

After all, Sylpha's concerns were certainly understandable. After all, Kelvin was her Master, and as far as they understood, Sylpha had developed a special loyalty to Kelvin, it wouldn't even be an exaggeration if Sylpha's loyalty was considered fanaticism.

"But, I didn't think that boy could defeat Goliath." Gareth said with a grin, "that boy seems to have more talent than we thought."

Hearing Gareth's words, everyone couldn't help but agree.

In comparison, Goliath was a Monster Rex classified as level 4. In fact, a level 4 adventurer could barely fight one-on-one with Goliath if not under certain conditions.

But, Kelvin could do that. Although he was assisted by Sylpha at first, it was undeniable that Kelvin had more impact than Sylpha did.

In defeating Goliath!

Knowing this, either Loki or the other three executives were curious as to how much of an increase Kelvin would get because of this achievement.

"Will he level up?" Riveria asked curiously.

"Wait, level up? Isn't that too soon for him?" Gareth stared at Riveria in disbelief.

Ais was the current record holder for the fastest level up 2, and it had only taken Ais 1 year to do so.

Meanwhile, there hadn't been 1 month since Kelvin became an adventurer and joined them. But, Kelvin had the possibility to level up 2?!

Absolutely unbelievable!

"It's true that it's too soon. But...," Finn held his chin with a thoughtful expression, "considering Kelvin's achievement of being able to kill Goliath even though he's still level 1, I think it's enough to give him plenty of high-level excelia to be able to level up."

Finn's words naturally made Garteh a little surprised, but it was only for a moment before he burst out laughing while hitting the table.

"Alright, alright, enough discussing this matter." Loki's serious voice suddenly silenced them, and made them look at him, "now, I want to talk about something about his Magic ...."

"That's right, I remember his magic is just as troublesome as Ais's." Riveria rubbed her forehead with a grim expression, "not only that, I also asked about the details of that battle from Lefiya, and it really doesn't make sense!"

"What happened exactly?" Finn looked at Riveria curiously, "can you tell us, Riveria?"

Not only Finn, but either Gareth or Loki also offered Riveria impatiently.

They had intended to ask these details earlier, but ever since the last trip to the Dungeon, Lefiya had always looked gloomy and shut herself in her room. Meanwhile, Sylpha was also not at all helpful.

In the end, they decided to wait for things to calm down a bit. And just a moment ago, Riveria happened to run into Lefiya, and she was finally able to ask Lefiya about Kelvin's battle with Goliath the other day.

"So that's it ...." Finn bit his thumb with a grim expression, "As expected..., that magic is a real nightmare."

Needless to say, Finn was experienced enough to know the risks of having such Magic. Something that required sacrifice in exchange for power was certainly not a good thing.

After all, he also seemed to have something similar to Kelvin.

It was just that, if what Kelvin had was Magic that sacrificed his common sense in exchange for extraordinary physical strength, then Finn had Magic that would give him a massive increase in ability at the expense of his sound judgment due to a strong desire to fight.

"That's so, after all, Magic is very troublesome...." Gareth sighed.

When he thought of a Magic that made its user gain a tremendous increase in physical strength, Gareth naturally couldn't help but be envious.

And not just about physical strength, but this Magic also makes the user able to ignore or pain received, with the addition of the user also having super fast regeneration abilities.

With all these things, of course, there will be risks that must be borne by the user.

"Indeed." Loki nodded in agreement, holding his chin with a thoughtful expression, "But, if you look closely, this Skill is also useful for him in certain situations."

"In the end, everything that happens cannot be repeated. We can only hope that the same incident does not happen again."

For a level 1 adventurer to fight against a Goliath who was level 4 was certainly not something a normal person could do.

But, because of Kelvin's special condition, Kelvin's skill "Madness Increase" really helped him in defeating Goliath this time.

Kelvin could have used his Magic, "Wound Manipulation", by only doing minor damage to Goliath and making the wounds on Goliath's body wider until it split his body in two.

But, Kelvin's mind wasn't strong enough to be able to do something like that. So, all he could do was rely on his "Madness Increase" Skill.

The "Independent" and "Reverse Sight" Skills certainly wouldn't help, while the "Réduire Ajouter" Skill wouldn't do much damage to Goliath, as it would only reduce Goliath's stats to a certain extent.

And although the Goliath's reduced stats were added to its own stats, it was only half of the total reduced stats, making it less efficient at some point.

But, "Madness Increase" was of course different. This magic gave Kelvin massive physical strength as well as unreasonable regeneration abilities at the expense of his common sense.
