Chapter 8: Chapter 8 Sergeant Tang's Request
Zhu Fei was unaware of the events that had transpired after he left. At that moment, he was sitting in the library, flipping through the books he needed to read.
With his current spiritual power far exceeding that of ordinary people, Zhu Fei's reading speed was incredibly fast, virtually reading ten lines in a single glance.
Everything his eyes scanned became imprinted in his mind instantaneously, much like data transfer.
In a short amount of time, Zhu Fei had finished reading more than a dozen books related to medical science.
This also gave him a sufficient understanding of the medical knowledge of this world, as well as the names of various medicinal herbs.
...
For the next several days, Zhu Fei scarcely went anywhere else, thoroughly immersing himself in the library, rapidly absorbing the civilization of this world.
During this time, the library staff repeatedly approached Zhu Fei to remind him that he should be focusing on his studies.
However, Zhu Fei dismissed these concerns with various excuses and didn't take them seriously at all.
To the current Zhu Fei, familiarizing himself with this world and his personal cultivation were the issues of paramount importance.
As for studying and such, those were not even worth mentioning.
With his current prodigious memory, if he truly wanted to study, there would be no difficulties or troubles at all.
Therefore, Zhu Fei continued to stubbornly immerse himself in the library as he pleased.
It was only two days later, when Tang Mengyun appeared before him, fuming with anger, that Zhu Fei somewhat surprisedly put down the book he was reading.
Tang Mengyun was very angry. She had thought that Zhu Fei, who had seemed to have completely changed, had not stepped foot in the classroom for five consecutive days.
At first, Tang Mengyun wondered if something had happened to Zhu Fei; after all, many people had witnessed his confrontation with Sun Hao.
She even worriedly guessed whether Zhu Fei had been retaliated against by Sun Hao afterwards, which would explain his absence from the classroom.
But later, she heard about Zhu Fei's behavior over the past five days from her friend, Pan Tingting.
He... he had actually spent five consecutive days in the library. Did he not know there were less than two months left before the college entrance exam? Didn't he plan for his future at all? Was he not concerned about his studies?
Tang Mengyun didn't know why, but upon learning of Zhu Fei's actions, her mood suddenly turned very sour.
Consequently, when she looked at Zhu Fei now, her gaze carried a tinge of hostility and anger.
"Zhu Fei, please explain to me what you have been doing these past five days. Why haven't you come to the classroom for lessons?"
Upon hearing Tang Mengyun's suddenly explosive question, Zhu Fei was initially stunned, then his brow furrowed slightly.
Truth be told, Zhu Fei actually had a rather good impression of this girl, Tang Mengyun.
But as good as his impression was, who was he, Zhu Fei, to simply accept someone else's interrogations?
So in the next moment, Zhu Fei's expression turned somewhat cold, and his tone of voice became detached.
"Who are you to me? Do I really need to report to you what I do here?"
"Zhu Fei! You..."
Tang Mengyun was rendered speechless by Zhu Fei's response, standing there pointing at him, unable to muster a rebuttal, but feeling an overwhelming sense of injustice inside.
She had worried about him for five days, mustering her courage to come find him, only to receive such a dismissive response from Zhu Fei.
What made Tang Mengyun feel even worse was Zhu Fei's indifferent attitude, as if her concern was an unnecessary bother.
In an instant, her eyes misted over with a hazy layer of moisture.
"Zhu Fei! You jerk! I... I... I..."
Tang Mengyun stammered without being able to form a complete sentence; she was truly infuriated by Zhu Fei.
Who was she, Tang Mengyun? The class president of Class One, Grade Twelve at Lan City No.1 High School, the recognized goddess-level beauty of the school, and the pampered darling of her family – when had she ever been treated with such indignity? And who would dare to upset her?
Yet now, this detestable fellow, Zhu Fei, had done just that, and he did it with an air of nonchalant ease.
Just thinking about it made Tang Mengyun feel an aching bitterness in her heart, causing her tears to uncontrollably start falling "plop, plop".
Seeing Tang Mengyun suddenly in tears, Zhu Fei was also momentarily taken aback.
He hadn't expected that a single remark of his would evoke such a big reaction from Tang Mengyun, a hint of bitter smile tugging at his heart.
No matter what, Tang Mengyun could eventually be considered a half-friend of his, had his attitude towards her just now been indeed a bit too much?
When he thought back to the time at the bank, when this girl had the courage to stand up for him in the face of so many police guns, and afterwards showed such wholehearted concern for him, Zhu Fei's heart softened a bit.
He straightened up slightly, gave Tang Mengyun a somewhat apologetic look, and said, "Hey Tang class leader, aren't you overreacting a bit? To get an explanation from me, do you really need to go this far?"
Zhu Fei's words not only failed to stop Tang Mengyun from crying but made her even more upset.
Wiping her tears, she said with a choked voice, "Who... who asked for your explanation? I'm just so upset, you have no idea how worried I've been these past few days. I thought something had happened to you, but you... wuwu..."
Initially, Zhu Fei was speechless about what Tang Mengyun had said before, thinking to himself, "Women truly are illogical. She was so angry just a while ago, looking for a confrontation, and now all of a sudden she doesn't want my explanation."
However, after hearing the rest of Tang Mengyun's words, something in Zhu Fei's heart was gently stirred, giving him a sense of warmth.
It turned out that the reason she had behaved that way before was because she was worried about him; it seemed he had indeed wronged her.
With that realization, Zhu Fei immediately let go of his earlier indifference and adopted a softer tone, "Alright, alright, crybaby, wasn't I just wrong about you? Is that not enough? I apologize to you."
For Zhu Fei, admitting his mistakes was not something impossible to do, nor would he sugarcoat anything, much less make excuses for himself; a mistake was a mistake.
Especially when it comes to people who care and worry about him, he has no intention of denial or hesitation.
Perhaps sensing Zhu Fei's sincerity, Tang Mengyun, who had been continually weeping, gradually calmed down.
However, she seemed quite dissatisfied with Zhu Fei's earlier appellation and couldn't help but pout her lips in annoyance, "Who said I'm a crybaby? Zhu Fei, you only know how to pick on me."
As soon as Tang Mengyun finished speaking, she suddenly saw Zhu Fei's somewhat teasing expression and realized that he was just joking with her; her cheeks couldn't help but flush slightly.
But her mouth still stubbornly said, "No matter what, you were the one picking on me just now. I... I won't pay attention to you anymore."
Seeing the delicate and adorable expression unique to a young lady on Tang Mengyun's face, Zhu Fei couldn't help but feel amused and intentionally teased, "Are you sure?"
"Yes, I'm sure."
Tang Mengyun then put on a serious face, but when her gaze met Zhu Fei's eyes for a moment, they both couldn't help but burst into laughter.
This laugh instantly dispelled the unpleasantness from before.
...
After a while, Tang Mengyun finally composed herself and seriously asked Zhu Fei, "Zhu Fei, can you tell me now, why have you been staying here these past few days? Not going to the classroom for lessons?"
"You better not tell me that you haven't gone because you're afraid of Sun Hao's revenge. I won't believe that."
Upon hearing Tang Mengyun's mention of Sun Hao, Zhu Fei's eyes flickered with surprise, but he quickly composed himself.
But when he thought about Tang Mengyun's question again, he suddenly felt a headache.
By now, Zhu Fei understood that she was concerned about him, and he clearly shouldn't treat her the way he had before.
But some things, he inevitably couldn't explain to Tang Mengyun.
So, after some thought, Zhu Fei could only look at Tang Mengyun with a helpless bitter smile and said, "Look here, Class Leader Tang, can we please not dwell on this issue? You're making things really difficult for me."
"Hmph! What could be so important that it takes precedence over our studies right now? Besides, I am your class leader; caring about your situation is part of my duty."
Tang Mengyun was clearly dissatisfied with Zhu Fei's answer, responding with an involuntary cold snort.
Seeing this, Zhu Fei felt truly helpless.
He simply spread his hands in a gesture of resignation and said, "I have my reasons for being here, and let's cut to the chase, give it to me straight: what do you want me to do? I'll comply."
Taken aback by Zhu Fei's somewhat rogue-ish demeanor, Tang Mengyun was momentarily stunned, then her eyes shimmered as a mischievous grin appeared on her lips.
"Alright, Zhu Fei, you said it yourself, don't back out later."
"Sure, you tell me, and I won't back out."
Zhu Fei saw the somewhat "wicked" smile at the corner of Tang Mengyun's mouth, but he didn't care much.
To him, Tang Mengyun was a girl of simple nature; he didn't believe she would have any drastic plans against him later on, at most she would probably ask him to focus on his studies or something like that.
Sure enough, after getting an affirmative answer from Zhu Fei, Tang Mengyun said, "In about half a month, we seniors are going to have another mock exam. If you rank within the top twenty in our class, then I won't bother you about your studies anymore."
"But if you can't reach that score, haha, then you'll have to obediently attend classes. How about that? Zhu Fei, you're not going to deny what you just said, are you?"
