Conqueror : Beserk System

Chapter 6: Chapter 6 : A New Beginning

Two Years Later

The clashing of swords in the thick of night creates sparks that light the dark, spell circles fill the battlefield as far as the eye can see. It's been two years since my last incident, two years since I killed a Grel, two years since I went beserk. I thought I would not graduate due to that, but somehow I did. I got assigned to the DuskHounds, the special unit that handles battles at night. I believe I was assigned here cause of my problems, mostly because they began training me on mana control when I arrived. Ever since then I have been on the battlefield. It turns out our information on the Khud revealed a bunch of hidden camps around. The DuskHounds were assigned the task of eliminating everyone.

I charge in with my unit, Phantoms we are called. A unit of three youngsters that showed promise, led by the vice Captain Grindan. The enemy has spotted us, despite our dark armors that blends us in the shadows. They begin firing arrows and spells at us trying to slow our arrival but all in vain.

"Split up !!" Frey yells out.

I go left, covering Frey with ranged lightning magic as she charges the camp. I have gotten better at using magic thanks to my training.

"Come, Edon." A large summon sigil appears next to Frey, from it a large Beast with several tentacles sprawls out immediately shattering the archers tower and the gates that protect them. The screams of agony from the men can be heard across the Emerald Forest as they are being ripped apart. Their screams remind me of my first encounter with her.

Frey Donovan, the butcher. That was a name she had before her arrival to the DuskHounds. I remember seeing her for the first time when she was introduced to me by the Vice Captain as my new teammate. Her mana was all over the place, chaotic and wild. That was the least interesting thing about it, for the first time I could hear the sound of mana. It sounded like screams, screams of people in constant agony. I remember being terrified but now, now it is nothing to me.

"Kairos I need you." Her voice pulls me from my memory. I look to find her being pushed back. What the hell? Edon is her toughest summon, what can push it back? I immediately rush to the gate, my sword in hand. I can feel a dark aura behind that gate, a familiar feeling. It can't be. I stand in disbelief outside the gate. Grels? How can there be this many here? Before me stand five Grels mounted by riders. I feel my spine stiffen and my breathe cease, my eyes begin to blur at the sight. My legs feel nonexistent, as I drop to the ground, my sword being the only thing that holds me up.

"Why? Why?" I begin to mumble under my breath as they approach. I can hear the muffled voice of Frey screaming for me to get up but I cannot. I feel the ground shake and then a huge shadow casts on me. I look up, my arms trembling as I try to grip my sword. The Grel swings its hands, it's sharp claws glowing with an ominous red as the wind it carries becomes visible to me. I close my eyes, waiting for another moment of death. That's when I begin to feel it, my mana flowing faster than usual, the air around me burning up. Strength surges into my body and somehow I jump out of the swings path and just in timee, as it sends a huge wave of wind that shatters everything in its path including the ground. What is this? This is new, I feel like my mana is overloading but I am in control.

"My power is yours, My lord." I hear a shrill voice speak to me and then my mana rockets. It's wild, it's untamed but somehow i am in control. I feel good. I grip my sword, as my eyes lock on the Grel ahead of me. A message appears in my mind.

[Cast : Conquerors Roar]

What is that? I wonder to myself. Whatever it is feels right, as I yell out "Conquerors Roar."

A large magic circle appears behind me and I feel my mana get sucked into it, from it emerges a huge flash of lightning that decimates everything in its path. For a moment I am blinded by the light as it turns the night to day. I open my eyes to find the Grel completely charred, a trail of flame now travels through the enemies camp. I stand, amazed by the sight of enemies fleeing in fear, even the riders flee on their Grel. A large roar startles me back to reality. The sound of the DuskHounds rejoicing. I turn around to find Frey staring at me, a smile on her face.

"That was pretty amazing Kairos," She says as she approaches me, "did not know you had something like that up your sleeve."

"Neither did I." I say, a sheepish smile on my face. She walks over to my side, a look I have never seen on her face.

"Things are about to get worse, we need everything you have." She says as she looks at me with intent.

"I have nothing else." I say, rubbing the back of my head. She stares at me for a brief moment before walking away, without saying a word. I can tell she does not believe me and I do not blame her. News of my beserk nature spread a while ago, of course she knows. I stand, watching the celebrations in the beautiful night sky, wondering what is next. I let out a smile as the realization that I gained something new became clear to me. That voice again, the same voice I heard before going beserk. Why does it keep referring to me as it's master? Maybe I could get answers from the white room, if only I can get back there. I have tried my best to get there ever since I learnt to control my mana but to no avail. I get the feeling that going there will give me a lot of answers and solutions to my beserk problem, after all it is the origin of my issues. Maybe I will try again this night while I rest, for now let me enjoy the celebrations of my victory.
