Chapter 55 - Bound by Love
“Protected Bloodline”
“Unrequited Love”
“Catastrophe”
Hello? More words continue to pop up. However, even if they said it like that, I still have no idea what they meant.
“Um, can you be more specific?”
“By specific, do you mean… in terms of meaning?”
Unable to bear the puzzled expressions of the girls in response to my request, Jasper, who had been quietly standing by until now, spoke up.
“Your conversation is jumping ahead too much. How about starting with an explanation of this place before the misdeeds of the witch?”
Right. I don’t understand that to begin with.
In the water basin, there used to be Lord Hugo’s tombstone and a flower bed.
The flower bed is destroyed, and the remains have been moved.
The messages of love vows have been rewritten from before.
The culprit is the witch.
From the flying words, I roughly grasped about this much.
“Before the witch? How far back should we go?”
“You mentioned there used to be a flower bed, but do you know what was planted there?”
“Of course, it’s Star Flowers.”
“Those are flowers woven into the flower crown from before, right?”
I heard that Star Flowers are favored by water spirits, thus it can reduce heat and used to cure a fever.
Star Flowers are low-growing, creeping plants. They are resistant to cold, producing many small buds at the beginning of winter and blooming cute flowers all at once in midwinter.
However, in this land with many spirits, it seems they bloom throughout the year, regardless of the season.
In other words, it’s not a splendid sculpture like the one in front of me, but a ground-covering plant that was planted here. That changes the image quite a bit.
“Yes. Star Flowers symbolize fertility and family bonds.”
“In front of the water surface, men, and women would pledge their love with the drooping Star Flowers.”
“Once upon a time, the ceremony of the clan’s marriage was held here.”
“Being surrounded by Star Flowers, holding the ceremony under the watchful eyes of the spirits, it’s really wonderful. So, it would be better to just destroy all of this arrogant decoration.”
She suddenly became talkative. Maybe because it’s a story that seems to catch the interest of girls, like pledging love and marriage ceremonies.
— Wrong.
Huh?
— Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.
— Everything is scary.
— Stop it. Why?
— I don’t know.
— Promise.
— I promised.
I heard a scream.
The temperature dropped rapidly, and my breath turned white due to the cold. Then, frost visibly formed on the basin and the surrounding floor, freezing white.
“What on earth!?”
“Be careful!”
Cracks appeared on the frozen floor, and it cracked like a spider’s web, shattering into pieces.
Without even grasping the situation, a giant jaws, the size of a train, approached, and swallowed me whole.
Golden snake eyes. Pearl-colored luster.
It’s you again!
Before I could complain, a one-person stage play began.
“Congratulations on the princess’s birth.”
“Yes. Despite being just born, she has a remarkably lovely face. When she grows up, she will surely become even more beautiful.”
“What will you name her?”
“Let’s see. A grand flower would be fitting for her. Let’s give her the name Flor Blanca.”
Flor Blanca.
The name of the flower I heard just now. They said it’s the witch’s flower. So, is this child the witch?
She looks like an ordinary, cute baby with no distinctive features. Why did she come to be called a witch in later years?
While focusing on the baby, the surrounding scenery changed rapidly, projecting her unusual life.
The charming girl was raised like cotton, surrounded by many adults, even before she could understand anything.
Anything she wanted was always sensed by someone, and it was immediately presented in front of her. If she expressed a wish, there was no wish that would not be granted.
A life where everything goes as planned, like the protagonist of a story.
Without experiencing patience or giving up, and without feeling the need for it, the girl entered adolescence.
One day, a change as if light had shone on the monotonous and boring everyday life occurred.
“Who is that gentleman?”
“He is an envoy from a neighboring country. He came for diplomatic purposes.”
In a magnificent and dazzling large hall with countless lights, a young man who was particularly attracting attention stood out amid the lively crowd.
His refined features had a wild charm. His expressive gestures, tall and trained body, fully displayed his masculine allure.
I know him. I’ve seen him before. I even visited his grave.
A person with a story, and the words engraved on his tombstone were too impactful.
“The one bound by love.”
Living a life filled with bitterness and experiencing the greatest danger in the midst of the turmoil in the Glass Region.
It was Prince Alexander.
Apparently, he seems to be watching the scene just before that series of incidents.
He visited the Belfast Kingdom, the neighboring country, as the king’s representative for inter-country negotiations.
Despite the tense relationship between the two countries, many noble women of marriageable age were drawn to his handsome demeanor.
Flor Blanca, a young girl, was no exception. The moment she saw the young man, she was captivated, and she would experience her first love.
“Oh, what a beautiful moon. Lord Alexander. Are you, like me, looking up at this clear light, feeling disarrayed by our fateful encounter?”
It seemed like a romantic opera I had seen before, and her heart fluttered, envisioning the sweet maneuvers of the upcoming love.
She did not doubt it. The destination of her first love.
Thinking that, since she has such strong feelings, the other party will naturally return the same or even greater passion, she genuinely believed that everything in her life would go well, just like before.
However, her expectations were quickly betrayed.
Even when she approached him with suggestive conversation, he maintained a cold attitude, making it impossible for her to attract his attention.
And when she honestly confessed her feelings, he insisted with a single point, “I have a fiancée,” showing no sign of yielding.
Finally, he began to blatantly avoid her.
“Why doesn’t Lord Alexander meet with me? Even though I adore him so much.”
For the first time, experiencing defeat. She was further engulfed in a love so deep it felt like drowning.
Unfortunately, she had never looked at things objectively, and she began to get caught up in her false beliefs.
“Surely, someone is getting in the way. Someone is jealous of me and is keeping Lord Alexander away.”
In her turmoil of first love, Flor Blanca could neither hate the beloved Alexander nor give up on him.
So, she began to think that the reason Alexander couldn’t respond to her feelings was because someone who didn’t want the two to be together was interfering. Her thoughts began to lean in that direction.
The greatest misfortune for the people of this era was that she was not an ordinary girl.
Flor Blanca Locust Belfast.
Born into royalty, her status was extremely high.
However, for some other reason, from the day she was born until now, she had been treated as if she were a glass by those around her.
The source of her personality was the special blessing she possessed.
Upon learning of her unfulfilled love, Flor Blanca experiences negative emotions such as anger, grief, and jealousy for the first time in her life. It was the very thing that those around her were desperately trying to keep away from her. The brunt of the uncontrollable dark emotions turns towards a third party whose face cannot be seen, and the story begins to turn into a tragedy.
