Chapter 25 - Mirror Mirror
A healthy lifestyle and a well-balanced nutritious diet have made a significant difference in my previously frail body.
However, I still have a long way to go to achieve a healthy physique.
“Do we have a mirror? A large one.”
“Yes, we do. Shall I bring it to you?”
“If it’s not too much trouble. If it is, I can go to where the mirror is.”
“I will bring it to your room. Please wait for a moment.”
With the slight addition of muscle and a bit of fat, my clone has become somewhat usable.
Using the eyes of the clone, which is still a work in progress, I wanted to take a look at my own appearance.
Creating the clone was a good decision.
It’s still in an unfinished state, and it’s still growing, so I can’t detach it from the main body. The resolution of the clone’s vision is not perfect either, and it’s not a good way to see, yet. However, the natural colors are the same as before, and just looking at them calms my mood.
At first, I was bewildered by the vision of the clone when I synchronized our senses.
My perspective shifted a few centimeters to the side. That small shift disrupted my spatial awareness. But I think I’m getting used to it little by little.
I thought there was a significant advantage to seeing things in its natural colors.
The change in color tone made it much easier to perceive the surroundings and people’s behavior.
The lifestyle here is probably not much different from my previous life. The clothing has a retro design from the Middle Ages to the early modern period, but instead of electronic devices, large magical instruments are used, and it’s more cultured than I expected.
Oh, a ridiculously large mirror has been brought in. It looks like it could be about nine square meters.
“It’s quite large, isn’t it? Are you sure it won’t break?”
“It’s made of special materials that enhance its durability and reduced its weight, so please don’t worry.”
Well, I did ask for a big mirror, but I didn’t mean it had to be this big. It looks like it could reflect not just my whole body but the entire room.
With a hint of trepidation, I moved in front of the mirror and silently made a wish.
Even if I’m just an average-looking guy, I hope I grow up healthy.
I know it’s a bit of a stretch, but I couldn’t help but have a tiny bit of hope that I might resemble my father, who is quite handsome.
“Huh?”
In the mirror, a small child, who looks like they might snap in half if touched, is reflected.
Is that me?
I was surprised. Even though I understood it in my head, I couldn’t recognize myself right away. It felt really strange that my high school self wasn’t reflected in the mirror.
I moved closer to the mirror little by little because I wanted to observe my current appearance carefully. Finally, the mirror image became life-sized. I held my hand out. Through the mirror, the two children clasped hands.
–Ah, I really have been reincarnated. At this moment, I feel like I finally realized it.
It’s not as bad as I thought. At the very least, I’m not like that screaming guy in the painting.
My hair color is what they call raven’s glossy black. There’s also a streak of discolored hair. The tips fall from around my left eye to my cheek. This is the clone.
At first, the clone’s color was white, almost like white hair. However, the color in my field of vision appears as deep navy or purplish-blue. Does this make it less noticeable?
I wonder if the change in hair color is because the clone has grown? Or perhaps it’s because of the hair oil?
Since a tuft of my hair turned white, my hair has been carefully maintained. Speaking of which, what is that hair oil they use? I should ask about it next time.
A small, white face framed by black hair. The disproportionately large eyes were particularly striking.
It looks like a doll. Despite having a small face, the eyes are unusually large. A slender, small nose and slightly upturned small lips. Each individual feature doesn’t seem too bad.
Unconsciously, I brought my face closer to the mirror and observed my eyes closely. The pupils are black, and the whites of the eyes remain white. The irises are an unusually bright green color, impossible for a Japanese person.
Phew. I was worried about the effects of the modifications, but my appearance seems relatively normal. I feel a great sense of relief. The iris and pupil colors aren’t swapped, nor are they blood-red; it’s a good thing.
Huh? Depending on the angle I look, does the color of my irises change? It’s not very clear due to the low resolution.
“Lord Lyon, is something the matter?” Moriss-Jii’s voice came from behind, probably because I had been moving my face in various angles. Let’s ask him.
“I was thinking my eye color might be changing. How does it look to Moriss?”
“Is it about the color? Lord Lyon’s eye color is like olivine, very beautiful.”
So, olivine exists in this world too. If it’s the same as in my previous life, it’s a bright yellowish-green color with hints of olive.
“Does the color change depending on the viewing angle?”
Top of Form
Bottom of Form
“I apologize for my rudeness in examining your face… You’re absolutely right. It’s strange, isn’t it? Is it because of the lighting? Sometimes, it appears to have rainbow-like colors. It’s like a rare gem.”
Judging by Moriss-Jii’s responses, it seemed like this wasn’t something ordinary.
Were these eyes a natural occurrence or a result of the modifications? I had doubts, so I asked Ai. Ai was aware of my state before and after the modifications.
《The rainbow-like appearance is due to structural colors. It’s likely a result of constructing a multi-layered magic foundation within the eyeball. 》
Structural colors, if I remembered correctly, were the colors of peacock feathers or the wings of Morpho butterflies. These materials themselves didn’t have color, but their surfaces had fine structures that strongly reflected specific wavelengths. It was quite an unexpected byproduct.
Wait, could it be that the change in the clone’s color was also due to this?
《It’s also likely due to structural colors. 》 Ai responded.
I see.
I took a step back from the mirror and looked at my whole body.
There stood the secluded young master. Fragile, almost unnaturally delicate, like a gust of wind could knock him over.
I see now. The people around me are probably being overly protective because of this.
Whether I could become handsome or not was still uncertain, and that was just an added bonus. First, I needed to level up into a lively and vibrant kid.
Now, it was time to switch to my Magic Eye.
My Magic Eye was upgraded into [Magic Eyes +++]. The more “+” symbols it had, the higher the resolution, performance, and functionality it could provide. The colors were still the same—vivid primary colors.
It seemed like my field of vision had developed quite a bit, offering more detail than before.
However, I realized that there can be such a thing as seeing too much when I looked at myself in the mirror for the first time.
Around the area of my chest, where my magical hearts resides, was emitting an incredibly bright swirling white light.
My head and abdomen were also exceptionally bright, with countless lines radiating from each light source. I looked more like an avant-garde sculpture than a person.
This doesn’t make any sense. The other day, when I perceived the astral body, it wasn’t like this.
Could you adjust the way it appears to be like that?
《It’s possible. Your Magic Eye already has anti-magic filters installed. You can adjust it gradually. Shall I proceed? 》
Let’s give it a try.
The light gradually dimmed, and finally, the human form emerged. Within this small human form were various-sized points of light and geometric patterns, scattered like stars in the night sky. In between the stars, magical paths crisscrossed.
The head, in particular, was incredible. It was like a doll made with incredibly fine lace, meticulously filled with intricate patterns.
As I was lost in the lace-like light, the contours gradually became clear, and the figure of a shining white girl emerged.
This time, I was seeing her with my own eyes. Araneola was there, a separate presence from me.
The overlap of the astral body and the physical body, my Magic Eye had reconstructed visual functions, prioritizing the astral body.
I was using the Magic Eye, so even though Araneola was in the mirror with her eyes closed, she could see, right? This Magic Eye was mine, but it was also a part of her, an embodiment of her astral body.
Open your eyes. I wanted to see you looking at me with your own eyes.
It seemed like she granted my wish. Araneola’s eyelashes, like silver threads, twitched, and her eyelids opened slowly.
The upper eyelid lifted gently, revealing her iridescent irises. And finally…
Our eyes met.
《Successful parallel activation of the Magic Eye and separation of the astral body》 came Ai’s announcement.
