Chapter 20: Chapter 10 Siege of Hi no Kuni

Chapter 10: The Siege of Hi no Kuni

As Yuuto stands before the gates of Hi no Kuni, the weight of his decision presses heavily on his shoulders. The Zerynthian army is encamped just beyond the village, their soldiers silently preparing for an unknown offensive. The tension in the air is palpable—his people are uncertain, and Yuuto can feel the fear beginning to spread.

Yuuto, however, does not allow fear to take root within him. He knows that he has the power to protect his people. The voice he heard in the flames earlier continues to echo in his mind, urging him to take control of his destiny. With a steady breath, he looks to his advisors and the gathered villagers, all waiting for his command.

"We cannot back down," Yuuto says, his voice firm but calm. "We will stand our ground and make our intentions clear to the Zerynthians. If they seek peace, let them prove it. If they seek war, then we will meet them on the battlefield."

The crowd murmurs in agreement, a sense of unity spreading as Yuuto's words take root. They trust him, and that trust gives him strength. He turns to Garan, Kael, and Hoshiko, each of them silently preparing for what comes next.

"We must fortify the village," Garan suggests. "The Zerynthians are no ordinary enemy. We need to ensure we can hold the gates for as long as possible."

Yuuto nods, his mind racing with strategies. "Garan, you take command of the village defenses. Kael, prepare the warriors for a potential skirmish. Hoshiko, stay with the elders and tend to the people. We need their support and their strength."

The advisors bow their heads, acknowledging their roles, and the preparations begin. As the villagers work together to bolster the fortifications, Yuuto finds himself standing alone for a moment, staring at the encampment in the distance. He knows that the Zerynthians are waiting for something—perhaps a response, perhaps a sign of weakness.

But Yuuto will not give them the satisfaction of seeing him falter. He knows that if the Zerynthians push, he must be ready to strike back with everything he has.

Hours pass, and the sun dips lower in the sky. The campfires of the Zerynthians flicker in the distance, their army moving silently in the dark. Yuuto stands atop the village wall, watching their movements with a keen eye. Then, as if on cue, a rider approaches—a messenger from the Zerynthian general, bearing a letter.

Yuuto walks down from the wall and meets the messenger at the gates. The letter is sealed with the imperial insignia, and as he breaks the seal, he reads the contents carefully.

"We offer you a choice, Yuuto of Hi no Kuni. Lay down your weapons and swear allegiance to the Zerynthian Empire, and we will guarantee your people's safety. Defy us, and we will show no mercy. Your choice will determine the future of your nation."

The words are cold, and Yuuto can feel the threat behind them. He clenches the letter in his hand, knowing that his response will define everything.

"I will not bow to threats," Yuuto mutters under his breath. "But I will not rush into war either. I will give them my answer on my terms."

He takes the letter and returns to the village, where he gathers his council. Garan, Kael, and Hoshiko await him, their faces grim but resolute.

"They demand our surrender," Yuuto says, his voice cold. "But they will not get it. We will fight for our freedom, and we will show them the strength of Hi no Kuni."

Garan nods in agreement. "Then we shall prepare for war. We cannot let them intimidate us."

Kael's hand tightens around the hilt of his sword. "If they want a battle, they will get one."

Hoshiko, though old and wise, does not hesitate in her decision. "The gods have blessed you, Yuuto. You are the fire that will burn through their empire. We have fought this long for freedom. Do not let them take it from us now."

The council agrees, and within the next few hours, the village is prepared for the coming siege. The gates are reinforced, traps are set, and the warriors are ready for whatever the Zerynthian forces may throw at them. The village's strength is in its people, and Yuuto knows that with their resolve, they can hold off even the mightiest of empires.

As the night settles in, Yuuto stands at the front of the village, gazing out into the distance. The Zerynthian forces are close now, their shadowed figures lining the horizon. He feels the fire within him grow stronger, the heat rising from his core. He knows that his time is coming, and when the battle begins, he will lead his people with the fury of a burning flame.

The war is about to begin.
