Chapter 10
Chapter Ten: The Wonders of Slimes (Seeking Votes, Seeking Reviews)
The actions of the兽 ear girls were swift. Under Xue Ji’s leadership, it only took them a few hours to sort out usable supplies.
Following Bai Luo’s instructions, they piled the items together and categorized them.
“Lord Bai Luo, we have prepared everything.”
Xue Ji approached Bai Luo, the white fox girl not at all worried about her fellow clansmen’s future. With such a powerful leader as Bai Luo guiding them, they would live well wherever they went.
“Hm.”
Bai Luo nodded, stepping forward and releasing his magic power, which enveloped the supplies like fabric.
As Bai Luo retracted his magic power, the fabric did not vanish but instead solidified into reality.
“This?”
Xue Ji was surprised; she knew this was an advanced use of magic power. Even so, the ability to simulate matter with magic still amazed Xue Ji and the other beast people.
“Is this Lord Bai Luo’s magic power?”
Xue Ji touched the silver-gray fabric, and its feedback told her that the material was excellent and very real.
“No, I cheated a bit.”
To directly condense matter with magic power wasn’t impossible for Bai Luo, but it would be wasteful.
“I used this.”
Bai Luo raised his hand, revealing a semi-transparent blob pulsating in his palm.
“Is this… a slime?”
“Exactly.”
Bai Luo explained: “Slimes are incredibly mysterious creatures, with many varieties—metal slimes, acid slimes, mud slimes, and elemental slimes like water, fire, and earth.”
Cid had once studied the properties of slimes and developed many unique applications based on them.
“Take metal slimes for example.”
“These slimes digest metals, making themselves as hard as iron.” Just moments ago, Bai Luo had captured many slimes using his magic while testing the marketplace, including a metal slime.
After studying it, he found that a metal slime’s body was composed of metal, magic power, and a slime core.
“Magic power itself lacks physical form, but excluding the 1% core, the remaining 99% is liquid metal.” Bai Luo informed Xue Ji that these liquid metals weren’t absorbed from the outside environment: “Slimes inherently possess the ability to mimic substances.”
In other words, the transformation of slimes in this world was more akin to absorbing various pheromones and then simulating and evolving them with magic power.
“The key lies in the pheromones, not the absorbed materials.”
Thus, Bai Luo quickly deciphered Cid’s application of slimes.
“Replacing the slime’s core with oneself and using magic power as energy.” As Bai Luo spoke, the small blob of slime in his hand began to swell, the sticky material left behind after a slime’s death seemingly coming back to life.
“Providing magic power allows the slime to grow like a giant slime.”
“Conversely, magic power can also inhibit it, shrinking it to the size of a glass bead.”
“Additionally, through the analysis of pheromones, it can be transformed into various substances.”
Most importantly, this blob lacked a core, replaced by Bai Luo himself.
This made such techniques extremely safe, eliminating any worry of creating an uncontrollable slime monster.
“Of course, substances created this way cannot exist permanently.”
Like the packages Bai Luo had created, they maintained their form because Bai Luo was stabilizing them. Stabilization didn’t require additional magic power but demanded precise control.
“Heave-ho!”
While Bai Luo explained, the children started handling the items.
“It’s so light!”
“Yeah, not heavy at all.”
“Feels like carrying a big balloon.”
After Bai Luo’s adjustments, these magical fabrics carried a certain spatial buoyancy, significantly reducing the children’s burden.
Bai Luo originally intended to manipulate the items himself, letting them float in the air.
However, Xue Ji believed Bai Luo shouldn’t spoil the children so much.
“We’ve already received so much kindness from you; how can we ask for more?”
“Alright.”
Bai Luo was convinced by Xue Ji, and the children genuinely wanted to contribute. Thus, each child selected luggage. Adorable little beast people, each carrying large bundles on their backs, resembled ants moving house—a comical scene.
“Let’s go.”
Bai Luo closed the chat group and called everyone over: “I’ll take you to meet Hong Ye.”
Soon, Bai Luo led everyone to the cave where Hong Ye and the others were hiding.
“Xue!”
“Sister Hong Ye!”
Reuniting sisters, Xue Ji could no longer hold back her sorrow, rushing into her cousin Hong Ye’s embrace, venting her grief over losing her homeland and mother.
“Everything will pass, Xue.”
Sharing similar hardships, the slightly older Hong Ye stroked her sister’s head and consoled her: “We still have so many children to care for; we must stay strong.”
“Yes!”
Xue Ji wiped away her tears and solemnly nodded: “Sister Hong Ye is right; now isn’t the time for sadness.”
She hadn’t forgotten the mysterious organization lurking in the shadows or the enmity between the east and west tribes. Though this was war, without notions of justice or evil, Xue Ji wouldn’t hate the eastern and western tribes, but the masterminds who initiated the war must answer for their deeds!
‘According to the original story, Hong Ye should have died at the hands of the Diablo Sect.’
Knowing the world they were in, Bai Luo had pretty much determined the origins of the black-cloaked swordsman.
The Diablo Sect, an organization hidden in the world’s darkness, worshipped the acquisition of Diablo’s blood to gain infinite life, immense strength, and absolute power. The organization infiltrated various regions of the continent, possessing countless laboratories and monster cages. They imprisoned young girls, subjecting them to horrifying experiments.
“Do you have any plans?”
Bai Luo walked to Xue Ji and Hong Ye, discussing the next travel arrangements with them.
As the leader of this group, Bai Luo didn’t need to consider too much. Hong Ye wasn’t skilled in combat but had great charisma, quickly earning the trust of the children, making her perfect for logistics work. Sister Xue Ji was intelligent; Bai Luo’s many ideas clicked with her immediately. And Xue Ji’s potential was high; in the future, she could easily lead Bai Luo’s beast people team and handle external affairs.
“The Beast Empire is becoming increasingly chaotic. Both the eastern and western tribes attacked us today, and a larger conflict is likely soon to erupt.”
Xue Ji and Hong Ye both believed this place was no longer safe, necessitating finding another refuge. Both agreed that leaving the Beast Empire and settling elsewhere was the best option.
“In that case, I do know a place.”
Bai Luo recalled the location of the Shadow Court headquarters from the original story: “Do you know the ancient capital of Alexandrina?”
No, the current Cid had no knowledge of this place. Without investigations by Alpha, Beta, and others, whether Cid could even realize the existence of such an ancient city was uncertain. This wasn’t about taking someone else’s things.
“An ancient capital?”
“Could it be the legendary ancient royal capital you speak of, Lord Bai Luo?”
The Demon Fox race was known for its wisdom, and the white fox girl was one of its outstanding members. Xue Ji had read many books and knew various secrets. Unfortunately, the invaders from the east and west tribes had burned most of their collection, a fact that made Xue Ji clench her teeth in pain whenever she thought about it.
Painful! Too painful!
That was the precious wealth accumulated by their Demon Fox clan over generations!
“Ancient legends mention this city, supposedly located east of Lindblum Sanctuary, requiring crossing the ‘Abyss Forest’ to reach.”
“However, this city has always existed only in the oral traditions of a few people, and its existence remains unverified.”
“Moreover, the Abyss Forest is filled with toxic mists, and almost no one can survive it.”
Xue Ji gathered her strength and recounted all the information she knew: “Additionally, legend has it that there is a powerful creature called the Mist Dragon there.”
“Mist Dragon?”
Hong Ye worried, “Surely it’s not a real dragon, is it?” In another world, dragons were synonymous with evil and terror. In the Shadow World, dragons were equated with natural disasters in ancient times, and many even called them Demon Kings.
“I believe the term ‘dragon’ probably refers to a powerful magical beast,” Xue Ji opined. After all, even if dragons truly existed, so much time had passed that they should have aged and died by now.
“We’ll find out once we see it.”
Bai Luo wasn’t afraid of dragons. In the original story, even a young Cid could easily defeat one, let alone Bai Luo, who was stronger than Cid.
Though the two women were concerned, Bai Luo, their leader, had made the decision, and neither Xue Ji nor Hong Ye opposed it.
Under the direction of the two girls, the group of over thirty quickly assembled. Beast people admired strength and loved battle. Once they recognized their host, regardless of the dangers ahead, they would follow unwaveringly.
Xue Ji and Hong Ye were like this. Though the clichéd hero-saving-beauty scenario was old, it was the easiest way to win a girl’s heart. Although Bai Luo hadn’t accepted, both women had privately regarded him as their lord. Saved by him, they would never leave his side, willingly serving as slaves if necessary.
“Lord Bai Luo, this is the map of our continent.”
Xue Ji handed Bai Luo a world map stored in the Demon Fox Village. Bai Luo spread it out, pointing to the vast mountain range in the east.
“Our destination is roughly in this area!” Bai Luo said, “Although the area is large, a forest shrouded in poison mist shouldn’t be hard to find.”
Considering their position, reaching the Alexander Mountains would take seven to eight days, even accounting for the beast people’s robust constitutions. Adding the time needed to search the forest, Bai Luo estimated finding the Ancient Capital Alexandrina within half a month would be fortunate. More likely, they’d spend over a month systematically searching the vicinity.
“During this time, you’ll have to endure some hardship.”
“You needn’t worry about us,” Xue Ji replied. “Beast people often hunt in the mountains, sometimes staying hidden for ten to fifteen days to find prey.”
Although the children lacked such experience, hunting and endurance were instincts ingrained in the beast people’s bloodlines. Therefore, even enduring one or two years wouldn’t elicit complaints.
Thus, with Bai Luo leading the way, the group embarked on their journey to find a new home.
