Champion of the World

Chapter 16: Unorthodox (Part 3)

"What the hell were you guys doing-" Colainn paused as he gaze upon his comrades. "What happened?"

"Keep your eyes on that monster!" Asag shouted. Colainn looked forward and then getting a jab to the head followed by his decapitation. Liam pushed him to the side and continue his assault until he was thrown to the ground by Colainn and kicking Liam away.

"Head is the most common body part to attack, which is why my ancestry gets us where we are." Colainn put his head back on and regenerating the gash.

Liam charged at him and Colainn whistled. His demonic horse jumped out of the corner and toss the young champion around.

Colainn pulled his longsword from his scabbard. "You are an interesting person, and I respect that." Colainn whistled his horse to stand by and charged Liam.

However, Colainn was met the same fate as his comrades by Liam's unorthodox fighting style. He landed next to the trio and the demonic horse joined in the fight.

"I told you to keep your eyes on him!"

"It's not that easy when you can't read his attacks!" Then, Jiang put his hands on both of their shoulders.

"Hey, is it just me or is his attacks getting sharper?" They looked back as Colainn's horse flew into a house when he said that.

"INCOMING!" Liam flew right into them and they dodged his attack. Liam scooted into a 720 wheel kick to Asag's lower back. Slamming him to the ground and preparing for the fatal blow until a series of fire arrow was firing at him.

Liam retreated from his position and failed to finish Asag as Colainn switched his weapon with a bow from his back. Fire Manipulation is his bloodline ability as he is able to morph them to arrows. Colainn and Calypso started attacking Liam from a safe distance while Jiang and Asag attack in close range.

They couldn't land a strike on him. Liam was throwing punches but failed to finish them off. Their long range attacks prevents him to end the fight. He deflected Asag's needle attack to change his stance and roundhouse kicked to his back.

Liam slipped Jiang's sweeping punches and caught one of them. Cutting his wrist and punching his other shoulder to immobilize his attacks before swinging him around, using him as a hostage. Walking backwards from his position as the demons walked into the line of his sight.

"Colainn, do your thing!" Jiang shouted. He front flipped from Liam's grasp and made some distance as Colainn summoned a fire arrow with multiple arrow heads.

"Birdshot." He fired his arrow and the arrow split apart to multiple arrows. Liam couldn't even close the distance. Instead, the distance between him and his opponents were much longer than before due to them using long range attacks.

Overtime, he started closing the gap after dodging with each attack. Adapting to each one of them except Colainn's. His wide range attacks is difficult to get used to. Liam changed his target and went after Jiang.

"Don't get cocky!" Jiang blitzed forward and making him guessing his attacks. Liam saw it coming and switched his stance to throw a swivel stab. The demon widened his eyes and tried to parry it, but the attack is so strange for him to read.

Jiang instinctively turned his head to prevent a fatal damage as it stabbed his temple and pierce his eyeball. He backed away from him and laid eyes upon him.

Shocking to find him changing his stance. Right handed to left handed. Jiang started to get angry. He blitzed in again, but his instincts were in control as he was forced to step back and a cut appeared on the bridge of his nose.

'Why can't I see it?' He wasn't in a distance of his attack when he was orthodox. His range got longer and wondered if it's because of his sword.

Liam switched stance and threw flicker jabs. Setting up for a killing blow by switching to southpaw and throwing a flicker stab. But couldn't land it due to the annoyance of range attacks.

Calypso slowly eased down her attack pace when she realized something. Liam didn't use any of his abilities. There's no Cosmic Gash or Deceiving Assault. Two of the most basic abilities of the North Star Champion, and yet he doesn't use them.

"Colainn. He's not using his power, yet!" The demon knight widened his eyes as he also slow down. Questions made their entry into his head with no exit. Why did he not use them? What is he planning? Does he see them not much of a threat?

Colainn summoned three Birdshot arrows in his bow and fired at Liam. The arrows followed and was about to struck his ankle

"Deceiving Assault." Liam blinked into four clones and they rushed in. Colainn fired Birdshot at one of them, but wasted his attack as he blinked behind it while pushing forward.

"One." Colainn carefully aimed his shot at Liam. He shot his Birdshot again, causing his clone to blink again. "Two."

However, his clone was right up on his grill after dodging his attack. Switching to his sword. He waited for the opportunity to strike, but was met the same fate. The clones of Deceiving Assault took in the user's current capabilities.

Colainn was frustrated that he couldn't land a strike on the clone. He had one more to go in order for the clone to disappear, but it possessed the same skill as its user.

He then created a wall of fire in front of him, striking the clone for the last time as it disappeared. He saw something out of the corner of his eye and had to cast a barrier spell.

'Cosmic Gash?' Colainn didn't hear him spoke before and his Cosmic Gash was imperfect, making it unpredictable. The demons gritted their teeth and pay no attention to the clones getting decimated.

The attack scattered around with its elongated bendy slash and Liam sent another imperfect Cosmic Gash. Jiang's left arm was caught in the attack along with Asag's fingers amputated.

"Cosmic Gash." Liam finally said it. Calypso was the only demon with wings while the others don't as Liam timed it perfectly when they are setting foot on ground. Colainn turned his head to his horse who was unable to enter the battlefield due to the chaotic Cosmic Gash.

Colainn cast the barrier spell again and glared at Liam. He shoots a barrage of Birdshot. The attack range is so wide that Liam had to block some of the arrows due to the limitation of his surroundings to dodge.

However, the arrows past him and expanding the range. Getting Liam's attention as he faced towards the hospital. Their fight was not that far away from them.

Liam zoomed down the path. Trying to catch with the arrows and blocking every arrow the best he could.

Asag gritted his teeth and was about to charge towards him until Colainn held his shoulder.

"That's enough. Let's get back to Blaze and not engage with the North Star Champion. I don't want to find out who's going to die today or how strong he will be. His guardian mode said it all."

"Fine..." They retreated in a blazing speed, leaving Liam behind as his Guardian mode started to diluted.

He stumbled to his knees and grip his sword tightly as it also started to disappear. He tried to walk forward, but tumbled on all fours before glaring into the direction they took. His eyes were heavy. Struggling to keep himself awake from the toll his body took.

Liam kept moving and moving. Falling onto his stomach and crawling while dragging his sword. He bit his tongue and roared while fighting back the exhaustion to the point where he is up on one knee.

He stare down at the direction the entire time before hastily followed them recklessly.
