CEO Daddy Begs Mommy for Remarriage

Chapter 6: Chapter 6 Who is she chatting with so happily late at night?

Seeing that the man didn't deny it, Lu Kejun knew it was true and, curious and confused, asked, "Has she lost her mind by getting her head slammed by a door? The two children have just turned a hundred days old, wailing for food, and she's already thinking about divorce? Even if she doesn't care about Grandpa, how could she heartlessly abandon her own flesh and blood?"

Everyone knew that Mu Wanqing had lost her parents, and the only family she had, her grandfather, had also passed away a few years ago.

Alone and miserable, she couldn't possibly take the two children with her in a divorce, she simply couldn't afford to raise them.

"Also, this morning godmother went to Yujing Bay, she wasn't home, and the two children were crying loudly because they were hungry. She didn't return even by lunchtime. I've always said this woman isn't as innocent as she appears, Grandpa was just trying to repay a favor and got it wrong."

Wen Zhan, hearing her continuous complaints, suddenly became impatient and interjected, "There's formula at home, and there's also frozen breast milk in the fridge, the children were not starving. She's an adult, she still has the freedom to go out occasionally."

Kejun was taken aback, hesitated, and stammered, "Brother... how can... you..."

She wanted to say, "How can you start defending her?"

But she stopped herself, thinking it wasn't appropriate—after all, Mu Wanqing was legitimately his wife and the mother of his children, so his defense was completely justified.

Thinking about Mu Wanqing's sharp words at the hospital today, Lu Kejun suddenly felt a bit guilty.

"Zhan... sorry, it's my fault..." she faintly confessed and apologized.

Wen Zhan, knowing what her abrupt apology meant, felt a hitch in his heart, his tone even, "You have nothing to apologize for, don't think too much. I'm still busy here, I'm going to hang up now."

"Okay, bye..."

The man sharply ended the call without hesitation, and immediately dialed the villa's landline to instruct the butler, Uncle Hong, to handle the matter of the talkative servants.

On the other end, Lu Kejun, who was hung up on, looked at the phone with a bit of inexplicable loss.

Before, it was always she who hung up the call first, but today, Wen Zhan had hung up first.

And his casual defense of Mu Wanqing earlier was also strange...

Could it be that just because a woman has children, even if her husband doesn't love her, his attitude towards her improves?

If that's the case...

Then she really should listen to Grandpa Wen's suggestion and quickly have a child with Xinchen.

Mu Wanqing returned home to feed the children, and while doing so, she heard a commotion downstairs.

She called Aunt Zhou to ask, and found out that the butler, Uncle Hong, was dismissing two maids.

"Why fire them? Weren't they performing well?" Mu Wanqing hadn't been home in the morning and was unaware of any incidents.

Aunt Zhou, not daring to say too much for fear of repercussions, vaguely explained, "Those two were gossipers, they offended the old lady."

Mu Wanqing had just heard that her mother-in-law, Jiang Lijuan, had come to visit the children that morning. She was relieved she hadn't been home, as seeing her would have likely led to tension and discomfort.

Unexpectedly, her mother-in-law's visit had still caused a stir.

Being merely the nominal mistress of the house, she had no say in household affairs, so after asking, she didn't comment further and let the two maids be fired.

Later in the afternoon, after she had rested, she went online on a laptop to look at job listings.

She really did want a divorce.

It was just that Grandpa Wen's health was poor now, so she had to put the matter on hold, but she needed to start planning for life post-divorce by looking for work.

Later, when the children woke up, she quickly got up to soothe them, carelessly placing the laptop aside without turning it off.

In the evening, Wen Zhan came back from work.

He habitually went upstairs to take a shower and changed into comfortable home clothes before spending quality time with the children.

As he casually placed his wristwatch aside, his hand accidentally touched the laptop mouse, brightening the initially dark screen just as he turned to walk away, then he suddenly turned back, his eyes narrowing, staring at the computer screen.

The search engine was filled with job-hunting websites: administrative, marketing, finance, legal, secretarial, and more.

Wen Zhan stared for a few seconds, his thin lips coldly curling into a smile.

It seemed she was serious about divorce, already starting to look for a job.

But he couldn't solve the puzzle.

Living in a mansion worth tens of millions, driven around in luxury cars, served by seven or eight servants, a respected status and without a worry about food or clothing, now even blessed with both a son and a daughter—what more could she want?

And yet she wanted a divorce?

Kejun was right, she must have lost her mind!

———

As soon as Wen Zhan returned, Mu Wanqing began to feel uneasy again.

She worried whether Kejun had tattled to him about their confrontation in the hospital that morning.

Moreover, her mother-in-law had visited their home while she was out, and she didn't know whether her mother-in-law had complained to him.

If they were in a normal marital relationship, such matters could have been openly discussed.

But the problem was, their relationship was far from normal...

During dinner, Wen Zhan was even colder and more indifferent than usual, and she remained silent as well.

Only the light clinking of utensils could be heard at the table.

Mu Wanqing was actually quite impressed with herself—despite the atmosphere, her appetite was unaffected. She kept eating until she was nearly full enough to burp before she put down her utensils.

Wen Zhan left the table before she did. She caught a glimpse of the man's retreating figure and had a clear sense of what might be coming.

It seemed certain he knew about the day's events.

His face visibly betrayed his emotions, but due to the situation, he didn't bring it up.

Mu Wanqing also preferred not to talk about it in the dining room, to avoid the servants overhearing and gossiping, which could lead to them being fired.

On this matter, the two were perfectly in sync.

At ten o'clock that night, after soothing the children to sleep, Mu Wanqing also prepared for bed.

Her phone rang—it was a WeChat message from Ye Huan about some rental apartments they had viewed during the day, asking for her opinion.

She wasn't very familiar with Chong City, even though she had lived there for over two years, because she had spent most of that time pregnant and then the following three months confined postpartum, hardly going anywhere.

The two reminisced about old times as they chatted, and Mu Wanqing couldn't help but giggle, urging her best friend to move in soon so she would have someone to talk to.

Wen Zhan walked in just in time to see her laughing uncontrollably, which caught him off guard.

They had been married for two years, and he had never seen her this happy—so who exactly was she chatting with so late at night, and why was she so joyful?

Could it be she had met a man she liked?

So she was ready to disregard everything to divorce and pursue true love?

When Mu Wanqing saw Wen Zhan, and their eyes met for a moment, the smile on her face suddenly faded.

"I need to sleep now, or I'll have to breastfeed later. You should rest early too."

After suppressing her smile, she immediately said goodbye to her best friend.

Ye Huan sent back a sly smiling emoji.

"Is it your husband hurrying you? Hehehe, I won't disturb you two any longer, we'll talk tomorrow."

Mu Wanqing looked at her phone, her face inexplicably blushing, and silently lay down before turning her body to the side.

This scene, witnessed by Wen Zhan, only confirmed his suspicions of her "infidelity" and "guilt."

He finally understood why she, despite having a perfectly fine life, suddenly wanted a divorce.

Though they lacked affection in their marriage, the idea of her falling for someone else and being willing to abandon even their children made Wen Zhan extremely upset, even angrily stirring inside.

As Mu Wanqing put away her phone and prepared to sleep, the mattress shifted behind her, and she stiffly asked, "Aren't you going to another room?"
