The Heavenly Realm of Mount Meru—the Hindu and Buddhist Pantheon's headquarters in the High School DxD world—consisted of thirty-three heavens.
And its ruler bore many titles: "Heavenly Emperor," "Indra," "Shakra," and countless others, each more grandiose than the last.
But the most common, the most widely known, was—Indra.
Indra, in the form of a black-haired young man, sat upon his throne in the Trāyastriṃśa Heaven, the highest of the thirty-three heavens, a troubled expression on his face as he read the report from Cao Cao.
The Biblical God's pantheon was the largest in the High School DxD world, its followers comprising a third of the world's six billion people.
To the gods, who fed on faith, the Biblical God was the ultimate High-Roller, the object of envy and jealousy.
But in this world where power reigned supreme, none dared to challenge him..
the Biblical God had effectively monopolized faith, leaving the other pantheons to seethe in silence.
But now, Cao Cao's report revealed a shocking truth—the God was dead. Indra's initial reaction had been one of unrestrained glee. He'd been ready to pounce, to claim the Biblical God's followers for himself.
Then, he'd read the rest of the report, and his face had turned green.
The Three Factions—Angels, Fallen Angels, and Devils—weakened by the Great War and constantly at odds with each other, had been unified. By the Red Dragon Emperor.
Even in their weakened state, their combined strength rivaled even the Buddhist pantheon.
And then, the final blow—Ophis, leader of the Khaos Brigade, was suspected of being under the Red Dragon Emperor's control.
Indra's face darkened.
The world's second strongest… her power wasn't to be trifled with. That was why the Khaos Brigade, despite constantly provoking the other pantheons, had never been directly challenged. And now… Ophis was being controlled? By the ambitious Devil who had unified the Three Factions?
Today, he controlled the remnants of the Biblical God's power. Tomorrow, he could monopolize all human faith. And the day after? He might even attack Mount Meru and use Indra's head as a ball. With Ophis at his command, it wasn't an impossibility.
The thought sent shivers down Indra's spine. He turned to his herald and roared, "Summon Shiva! Now!"

In the desolate wasteland of the Underworld, deep within the realm of the dead, Hades, Poseidon, and Zeus sat, staring at the report from Cao Cao.
The Biblical God was dead. The three brothers were ecstatic. Zeus immediately thought of expanding the Greek pantheon's influence, no longer constrained by the God's power.
Poseidon relished the thought of that meddling old fool finally being gone—the one who sent his priests to vandalize Poseidon's temples and desecrate his statues.
And Hades, his skeletal form shimmering with a rainbow of light, felt a surge of… malice.
Who ruled the Underworld now?
Devils and Fallen Angels.
He, Hades, could crush them both, so why were they in charge?
Before the Great War, he had tried to assert his authority. And the very next day, the Biblical God had appeared, beaten him to a pulp, and declared:
"They may be disobedient, but they're my pets. You stay out of it."
Since then, Hades had remained in the Underworld, silently enduring the Devils' and Fallen Angels' insolence, unable to retaliate.
And now? That old bastard was dead? Killed by his own pets? And it had happened a thousand years ago?
He'd endured a millennium of humiliation for nothing?
Hades leaped to his feet, his voice a roar. "Assemble the legions! We march on the Underworld! Kill every last Devil and Fallen Angel!"
"Hold on, brother! Calm down! You need to calm down! You've only read a third of the report!" Zeus, his white beard trembling, grabbed Hades' arm.
Why was Zeus, not the more powerful Hades, the King of the Gods? Because he was the most level-headed of the three brothers, his wisdom and strategic mind earning the respect of both Hades and Poseidon.
Hearing Zeus's words, Hades, his rage barely contained, forced himself to continue reading.
Then, he froze.
Samael, the Dragon Eater—the weapon they'd lent to the Khaos Brigade, defying the other pantheons' agreement, hoping to gain Ophis's favor—had been annihilated by the Red Dragon Emperor? Reduced to nothing?
And not only that, but someone else—Haru—had taken Ophis? They'd lost a powerful weapon and gained nothing in return?
The three brothers' faces paled, a wave of nausea washing over them.
Samael, imbued with a near-absolute curse, a force that threatened the world's very stability, had been sealed in the depths of the Underworld by the combined might of the pantheons, with the Olympian Gods taking the lead.
And now, having been used to attack the remnants of the Biblical God's power, Hades and the Olympians were surely on the Red Dragon Emperor's hit list.
Being targeted by the Red Dragon Emperor wasn't the problem. They could handle him. Even killing Samael, though the creature was sealed, wasn't beyond their capabilities.
The problem was… Ophis. If she attacked…
Zeus's face darkened. "We must form an alliance with the other pantheons. A preemptive strike. Even if we can't destroy the remnants of the Biblical God's forces, we must at least retrieve Ophis."
Poseidon and Hades nodded in agreement.

In the Dimensional Gap, the leaders of the various pantheons looked at the young man before them—a boy, barely fourteen or fifteen, with delicate features.
But despite his youthful appearance, he was the oldest among them—Shiva, one of the three Hindu Gods, the God of Destruction.
Shiva, his expression impassive, addressed the assembled gods.
"I understand your concerns. You fear the Red Dragon Emperor will use Ophis's power to attack you. Very well. I will… persuade the boy to relinquish control of Ophis."
Shiva, who had been improving his power since the dawn of time, possessed unwavering confidence. He could force the Red Dragon Emperor to submit, even with Ophis at his command.
Borrowed power, after all, was no match for millennia of dedicated training.
And the… compensation offered by the other pantheons for his intervention was… intriguing. He readily agreed to deal with the Red Dragon Emperor.
The other gods, despite wincing at the price they'd have to pay, were overjoyed. Compared to the threat to their existence, any cost was acceptable.
Zeus, stroking his white beard, spoke. "Now that the Biblical God is gone… perhaps it's time to… renegotiate the distribution of faith."
Shiva's eyes narrowed slightly. "Indeed. Let us journey to the Underworld and meet with the Red Dragon Emperor. We will… restructure the flow of faith."
"Excellent idea!" The other gods, their faces beaming, readily agreed.
After all, two billion souls were at stake—the followers of the now-deceased Biblical God. Even a small portion of that would significantly boost their power. Each pantheon could potentially gain millions of new believers.
With the exception of Shiva's Hindu pantheon and Indra's Buddhist pantheon, none of them currently commanded the faith of over a hundred million people. This was a chance to recoup their… losses and gain immense power.
And with Shiva, leading them, what did they have to fear?
A gate materialized in the Dimensional Gap, revealing the landscape of the Underworld beyond.
