"Protector Wu, I need your help."

As Yun Shan's voice rang out, a dense surge of black mist suddenly poured forth from the Yun Lan Sect's main hall below, sweeping over the sky and gathering into a wide, dark cloud.

Watching the black fog billowing forth, Mo Yu and She Lao both felt a surge of dread.

"This aura… it reeks of evil energy. Could it be… but what would they be doing in such a remote region of the Northwestern Continent?" She Lao murmured, his raspy voice tinged with shock.

Mo Yu's heart sank as well. The Hall of Souls… so they were already moving in the Jia Ma Empire?

"Be cautious, She Lao. This man is dangerous," Mo Yu warned telepathically.

Protector Wu's unexpected appearance caught Mo Yu off guard. According to the original timeline, this individual was not supposed to show up at this point. Could it be that his own interference had altered the original course of events?

The realization made Mo Yu's mood even heavier. While Protector Wu wasn't among the Hall of Souls' highest elites, his four- to five-star Dou Zong strength was sufficient to influence the battlefield. Despite the recovery of some of his own power, She Lao was only equivalent to a lower-level Dou Zong, making it challenging to defeat such an opponent.

She Lao understood the gravity of the situation and didn't argue. During his peak years, a mere Dou Zong would have posed no threat to him, but in his current state, Protector Wu was not an easy opponent. Furthermore, his aura hinted at a connection to a major power in the Central Plains, a group notorious for hunting down strong souls—a true nemesis to beings like She Lao.

"What is that?" the disciples of Yun Lan Sect murmured in panic as they looked up, confused by the ominous fog rolling in. Even Yun Yun, bound by the purple-gold chains of the Purple-Gold Snake Binding, stared in shock. As Yun Lan Sect's Sect Master, she hadn't known of such a powerful person lurking within her sect.

Casting a worried glance toward Mo Yu, Yun Yun felt a surge of unease. Although she didn't want to see her sect fall, she was equally unwilling to see him come to harm.

Ignoring everyone's concerns, a sinister laugh echoed from the depths of the fog, sharp and mocking.

"Heh, looks like Yun Shan's report was lacking. This insignificant empire is home to more than one powerful soul. If I take you down today, the Palace Master will be quite pleased."

The black fog churned, and finally, a figure appeared—a man shrouded in dark smoke, with faintly crimson eyes piercing through the haze.

Watching Protector Wu emerge in this form, She Lao, who controlled Mo Yu's purple-gold eyes, turned to Xiao Yan, saying, "Friend, I may not know your origins, but since you've chosen Mo Yu's cousin, we are on the same side now."

"These youngsters have created enough trouble, so it's time we elders stepped in to clean up their messes. I never expected the remote Yun Lan Sect would have connections to a powerful force from the Central Plains. This is no small matter. We must work together to overcome this challenge."

Xiao Yan, his face serious under Yao Lao's control, nodded. "Well said. Both Xiao Yan and Mo Yu hold our favor, so we must ensure their safety."

Yao Lao then let out a small sigh, adding, "But I have only recently awakened and my soul power is not yet fully restored. While I can handle Yun Shan, I may not be able to contend with Protector Wu."

"I'll handle Protector Wu. You just need to keep Yun Shan occupied."

Mo Yu's expression tightened slightly, sensing that the old spirit within Xiao Yan seemed a bit shameless.

Xiao Yan gave a wry smile, nodding. "Thank you for your help, friend. I'll handle Yun Shan and assist you when I can."

"There's no need. Just keep yourself safe—I don't plan on splitting my focus to save you," She Lao grunted, a defiant gleam of purple-gold energy flickering around him.

Yao Lao only chuckled, unfazed by She Lao's arrogance. But as he looked at the mysterious and potent bloodline force surrounding Mo Yu, a glimmer of interest appeared in his eyes.

"Protector Wu, leave Mo Yu to you." Yun Shan sneered, directing Protector Wu to the task.

Protector Wu nodded, casting a sinister glance at Mo Yu. "You have proven useful. Once Sect Master Yun Shan captures Xiao Yan, my superiors will ensure a prosperous future for your Yun Lan Sect."

Yun Shan's face lit up in joy as he nodded eagerly. "Fear not, Protector Wu. Yun Lan Sect will be the Hall of Souls' most loyal ally."

Protector Wu only smirked at Yun Shan's words. "Ally" was a stretch—Yun Lan Sect was nothing more than a disposable pawn.

With their plans in place, Protector Wu and Yun Shan separated, each charging toward Mo Yu and Xiao Yan.

Facing Mo Yu, Protector Wu raised his hand, summoning a dark chain. The clinking sound echoed ominously as the chain coiled in mid-air, curling like a venomous snake.

With a flick of his wrist, Protector Wu sent the chain slicing through the sky, aiming it directly at Mo Yu.

Whiz!

The black chain tore through the air, a sinister black streak with an intricately inscribed tip, wound in spiral patterns. Propelled by Protector Wu's energy, the chain exuded a cold, murderous intent. This was no ordinary weapon.

Seeing the chain hurtling toward him, She Lao dared not be careless. In his palm, purple-gold bloodline energy surged, transforming into a giant purple-gold serpent that lunged forward, meeting the chain head-on.

Boom!

The two forces collided with a low, dull sound. Instead of a violent explosion, a wave of black and purple-gold energy ripples expanded outward, causing even the air around them to tremble.

The black chain recoiled, surprising Protector Wu. The sinister bloodline energy within the serpent had disrupted his Dou Qi flow, destabilizing his control.

"A bloodline power?" Protector Wu murmured, his red eyes flashing with curiosity. "So, you're not a pure human after all!"

In the Central Plains, humans generally cultivated Dou Qi or soul power. Even the ancient clans used only traces of inherited Dou Qi bloodlines; none primarily relied on bloodline powers in battle. Only certain demonic beast clans or half-human tribes, like the serpent tribe, wielded bloodline powers as their main fighting strength.

The bloodline force in this purple-gold serpent was rare, perhaps even ancient—something not seen in the Central Plains for decades.

As the implications dawned on him, Protector Wu's gaze turned fervent. Capturing a spirit with such an ancient bloodline would bring him great rewards from the Palace Master.

As the black aura flickered across Protector Wu's shrouded figure, She Lao responded by gathering his purple-gold bloodline force, condensing it into a sharp snake fang weapon, slightly smaller than Mo Yu's Black Thunder Spear.

The purple-gold glow shone with a sinister elegance, yet it carried an aura of death. Anyone touched by this bloodline power would undoubtedly face an immediate and lethal poison.

"You're with the Hall of Souls, aren't you? Back then, even the Hall's Tian Zun couldn't gain an advantage in a fight with me. You, do you have a death wish?"

The purple-gold venomous serpent fang pointed directly at Protector Wu as Mo Yu spoke in a slow, icy tone.

Protector Wu sneered coldly in response. "Hmph, quite the boast! Even if you once shone in glory, now you're just a soul attached to another body. Kill me? Keep dreaming!"

As he spoke, Protector Wu's arm trembled, and three shadows shot out from behind him with a clattering sound, winding above his head like three venomous snakes.

"Triple Soul Chains!"

His hand, shrouded in dark mist, reached out, swiftly forming seals. Instantly, the three chains whirled above Protector Wu's head and shot forth with a piercing sound, sealing off all of Mo Yu's possible escape routes.

Watching the three black lines grow larger in his gaze, Mo Yu flicked his sleeve, and with a snap of his fingers, five streams of purple-gold bloodline power quickly condensed around him. They twisted like serpents before abruptly shooting forward to meet the three chains head-on.

Clang! Clang!

The chains clashed with the purple-gold bloodline energy, producing a metallic sound as sparks flew. Despite the eerie, unpredictable nature of the chains, She Lao's five bloodline serpents expertly blocked every attack, showcasing his battle-hardened experience.

Even after unleashing such a technique, Protector Wu was surprised to see no real effect. He could feel a chilling sensation spreading up the chains each time they collided with the bloodline serpents, making him uneasy.

What frightened him more was She Lao's elusive purple-gold venomous fang, radiating a terrifying aura that filled him with dread, forcing him to dodge carefully.

"Hmph! Just a mere soul form. Even if you're powerful for now, this bloodline power won't last long. Once you're spent, surrendering will be your only choice!" Protector Wu sneered, his voice cold as he barely avoided the fang again, its terrifying aura causing the black mist around him to tremble.

"Mo Yu, this Protector Wu may have been as insignificant as an ant in my prime, but now he's a tricky foe. He's right; this bloodline power drain won't last long," She Lao communicated while controlling the bloodline serpents to fight the chains.

"If I keep exhausting my bloodline, we'll both be helpless lambs to the slaughter. With Yun Shan and this Protector Wu here, it's unlikely we can bring down the Yun Lan Sect as you wished."

Hearing this, Mo Yu's heart sank slightly. The unexpected appearance of Protector Wu had thoroughly disrupted his plans. His hopes of avenging his grandfather today were dashed.

But he wasn't stubborn. He knew that preserving his strength was the best way to honor his late grandfather.

"No worries, She Lao. Let's switch to the second plan and retreat. Once I've reached greater heights in cultivation, I'll destroy Yun Lan Sect myself!"

Mo Yu's voice carried a steely determination. When he became powerful enough, not only Yun Lan Sect, but the Hall of Souls itself would fall to him! Revenge, even if it takes ten years, is worth it!

"Hmph, glad you're thinking clearly. Don't worry; I'll get you out safely," She Lao replied hoarsely.

With their decision made, She Lao disengaged, controlling Mo Yu's body while sending a signal to Yao Lao. He retreated gradually, fending off the chains as he moved back.

On the other side, Yao Lao, having received the message, nodded slightly and slowly maneuvered Xiao Yan out of the battlefield.

During the intense fight, Protector Wu seemed to sense She Lao's intentions. He furrowed his brows before breaking into a sinister smile.

Protector Wu laughed darkly, summoning a misty black fog in his hand. He stretched out his right hand toward his storage ring, and with a strong tug, he pulled out several faint, unconscious soul forms.

Though weak in aura, these soul forms were all at the Dou Huang peak level. There were seven of them in total!

"I told you, no matter the cost, I'll drag you back to the Hall of Souls! These seven souls are half a year's worth of effort, but to exchange them for Dou Zun souls, it's worth it!"

Under the shocked gazes of everyone, Protector Wu let out a chilling laugh as he yanked the seven Dou Huang-level souls into the open. He quickly formed a series of complex hand seals, and his piercing voice echoed through the sky.

"Nine-Forest Devouring Souls!"

As his shout faded, a strange black fog surged out from his body, engulfing the seven peak Dou Huang souls. A hair-raising chewing sound emanated from the black mist, sending chills down everyone's spine.

At that moment, Mo Yu and Xiao Yan's faces both turned grim.
