Chapter 46: BOOK IN THE BED

Matthew knew the king was toying with him, so he chose his words carefully.

"I just hope you don't have to go through more trouble, your majesty," Matthew answered

"Hahaha," Gavriel laughed in mirth, looking in the bathroom's direction.

"Go to the upper left side of the library, fetch me any book that captures your interest about all creatures living or have ever lived in Zadroth" Gavriel instructed just then a maid came carrying Florah's belongings.

Matthew bowed at the king and exited the bedroom to go do as instructed.

Now, Gavriel stared at the first pages of the book that were dedicated to descriptions of the humans, their behaviours, and way of life and then came the page that described their anatomy.

The ink scribbles described how various body parts functioned.

"The human heart beats between sixty to a hundred times per minute normally...."

The book went on to describe other human body parts and their functions in detail with the help of a few drawings of the body part.

Looking at the drawings, a distant voice rang in the King's head. "If you pull this vein, my dear, you get a red geyser. Hahaha, " a melodious womanly voice giggled delightfully while staring at the man, who was kneeling with blood spewing out of his neck like a geyser.

"Next time, you will make the geyser," the woman said while staring at a small silver haired boy who stood there staring blankly at the dying man kneeling beside his mother.

If only he hadn't betrayed his master.

Flipping to the next page, the book went on to describe other human body parts that he wasn't interested in.

Continuing to other pages uninterested, he was already bored to the point of closing the book.

But before he could close it, he noticed that some pages were torn in half, while the lower half of the page was missing.

The upper half only had the title 'Silver'.

Small symbols were scattered all over the torn part, making it difficult to understand whatever was written because he had never seen them even though he had spent his fair share of time reading and studying other creatures.

Flipping quickly through the next pages, he noticed that they also had the same torn out papers and unknown symbols written all over them, some similar to others.

Turning the book to its back, he opened the book again. Only for the words that were there before to fade into the pale cream sheet.

Gavriel clearly saw the words fading quickly into the book like they were hiding from him.

He stared at the now blank paper that clearly had words before he opened it.

His eyes flashed with curiosity, his interest peeking with every passing minute.

He closed the book and then opened it again to reveal the same blank paper like he had left it.

Gavriel smirked at the now interesting book before him.

Just then, Florah mumbled in her sleep. Although it was inaudible, Gavriel was able to hear her say, "Stop.."

Turning to look at her, he saw her forehead crease in worried lines like she was dreaming about something uncomfortable.

He looked between her and the book and got a weird inkling that her and the book were somehow connected.

He had laid her on the bed in a way that she would be facing him.

Closing the book, he put it aside and covered the smooth velvet duvet over his body and hers. He pulled the girl lost in slumber closer to him.

Tucking a few strands of her hair behind her ear, her breathtaking face came into view.

Her chest rose up and down slowly as she breathed normally.

"So stupid, no sense of danger." Gavriel said, noticing how Florah kept on sleeping peacefully like she was in her own bed.

"I could kill you right here and there, and you wouldn't know neither would anybody else." Gavriel said, his eyes glinting with malice.

Snaking his fingers around her neck, Gavriel wrapped his colossal palm and fingers around Florah's delicate neck.

Squeezing it a little, Florah only flinched for a mere second and went back to sleeping peacefully.

" Haha" the king chuckled, "so stupid" he commented.

Behind Gavriel, the book glowed a bit when he wrapped his hand around Florah's neck in an attempt to strangle her.

It exuded a subtle golden light around the words and symbols written on it.

Opening itself, it stopped at a page filled with symbols and letters enclosed in different shapes like triangles and pentagons.

Some shapes were in red while others were in yellow, they subtly glowed, the symbols started aligning themselves inside there respective shapes while they glowed.

The moment Gavriel turned to look at the book, it closed itself with a bang and lay there like any ordinary book.

Gavriel turned to look back at the sleeping girl infront of him, he noticed that more creased lines appeared on her forehead and her brows were furrowed more.

She appeared to be restless in her sleep.

Turning back to the book, he did the same motion of straggling his maid but this time he also looked at the book.

Nothing happened with the book, instead it was Florah whose temperature rose significantly, a thin sheet of sweat immediately covered her forehead.

"Mmmmhhhh" Florah started making incoherent noises in her sleep, while she clenched the sheets in between her small palms.
