Chapter 19: -16- Monster! She is a monster!
"Hmph! What an irritating creature! Look at the way he just acted!"
"Exactly, exactly!"
"He just got lucky and was chosen by a Mage to apply Disguise Magic, and now he really thinks he's the boss!"
"Exactly, exactly!"
"What's the harm in a little fun beforehand? She's just a little girl who hasn't awakened her bloodline powers. As long as we're careful, nobody will notice, and if we threaten her, she wouldn't dare to blab!"
"Exactly, exactly!"
Outside the courtyard, two Attendants stood side by side in the brush, relieving themselves.
One was cursing under his breath, while the other constantly echoed him.
This area was particularly desolate, surrounded by abandoned houses, with the occasional gaunt hobo casting curious glances at the two men.
"What are you looking at? Keep staring and I'll shoot your eyeballs out!"
The cursing Attendant glared and threatened, flashing his crossbow, which scared the hobo into immediately retreating back into his shelter.
"Such bad luck! Once I've finished this job and get the Source Power Seed to become a Knight, I'll never have to come to this damned place again!"
The Attendant snorted coldly, tucked away his crossbow, and hitched up his pants.
After they had finished, the two scanned the surroundings briefly and turned to walk back into the courtyard.
This area was quite secluded, rarely frequented by passersby on a regular day.
The Castel family had long arranged for distractions, and they had dashed around in circles on their way here; there was no worry that anyone would discover the truth and follow them any time soon.
Now, they had plenty of time to hand over the goods!
Thinking of the reward they were about to receive filled their hearts with anticipation.
"Move faster! Who knows if that guy really left us here to keep watch, or if he wants to sneak in some early fun with the young miss of the Castel family – a beauty even the deities would covet!"
"Exactly, exactly!"
"Damn it! Do you think... he wouldn't really dare to have his way with her alone, right?"
"Exactly, exact... huh, you make a good point! We need to hurry!"
The two Attendants immediately quickened their pace.
However, they had barely taken a few steps when a shrill scream echoed from the direction of the courtyard, startlingly clear against the deepening night.
They froze in their tracks.
"Just now... who was that?"
"It seemed... like Hunting Axe..."
They exchanged glances, their expressions changing slightly, and immediately picked up their crossbows, their vigilance heightened.
"Could be trouble; we better be careful!"
They nodded at each other, tightening their grip on the crossbows, and slowly, cautiously made their way towards the courtyard.
Night had fallen, the mercury-like moonlight casting an eerie mystery over the broken courtyard.
After that scream, silence reigned in the courtyard once more.
Only the rustling of leaves under the night breeze, the soft sounds of insects in the brush, and the occasional hoarse meow of a cat could be heard...
"Hunting Axe—Hunting Axe—?"
The two Attendants stood at the entrance to the courtyard, calling out from a distance.
There was no response.
The night wind blew, cool and chilly, carrying a strong scent of blood that made their hearts lurch.
They looked at each other, seeing a shared solemnity in their eyes.
Swallowing hard, they unconsciously gripped their crossbows tighter, as if these powerful weapons provided some sense of security.
They carefully entered the courtyard.
It was eerily silent.
The further in they went, the stronger the smell of blood became.
But when they saw the cart in front of the house, their pupils contracted instantly.
Blood...
Blood was everywhere...
The cart was wrecked; the draft horse was gone, and the dilapidated carriage was drenched as if a blood rain had passed through, with blood visible everywhere they looked!
Lying in a pool of blood not far from the cart was Hunting Axe, dressed as a servant.
His visage was no longer of an ugly old servant but that of a rugged middle-aged man.
However, at this moment, his eyes were bulging, his tongue lolling out, his expression one of sheer terror.
That look... as if he had seen something unspeakably horrifying.
His body was covered in gashes as if mauled by a beast, his limbs twisted into inexplicable angles, his torso split open.
The nauseating stench of blood wafted through the air, suffocatingly putrid.
The two Attendants' complexions changed in an instant.
"Lup... Lup, look over there!"
One of them tugged at the sleeve of the other, pointing at the ground with a trembling voice.
Following his gesture, the other saw a sinister trail of blood starting from in front of the carriage, extending to the woods in the distance.
From within the woods came rustling sounds, as if something was moving.
Looking towards the shadowy, dark forest, they swallowed hard.
"Monster... There must be a monster here!"
"Divine Lord above! I knew it! The Church has deemed this part of the city off-limits for years – there must be a reason!"
"Lup... maybe we should forget the reward... and get out of here right now!"
The usually echoing Attendant was clearly spooked and began to draw the Ring Cross on his chest in a fluster.
The other's expression kept changing.
After a few moments, he glanced at the empty carriage, gritted his teeth, and cursed softly:
"Foolish! Don't you want the Source Power Seed anymore?"
"Not to mention the goods are gone, and if we leave now, we will surely die!"
"Let's go take a look and see what it is!"
"Don't be afraid! Unlike with hunting axes, we have crossbows!"
Another person hesitated.
But seeing his companion's gloomy yet determined face, ultimately clenched his teeth and followed as well.
The two held their crossbows and headed towards the forest.
Along the way, they intermittently spotted the limbs of pack horses.
The sounds from within the forest became gradually clearer.
It seemed like a beast was tearing at something...
The two felt their hearts pounding furiously, almost leaping out of their chests.
Sweat drenched their backs, and the hands clutching the crossbow were starting to stiffen.
They carefully approached the forest, and the noises from within grew even sharper.
Holding their breath, they trembled slightly as they pulled back a branch and finally had a clear view of the scene in the forest.
Lying among the trees was the missing pack horse.
The pack horse was a corpse.
A petite shadow was crouching beside it, seemingly suckling on something...
Moonlight streamed through the branches and illuminated the slender figure clearly on the ground.
A blood-stained white dress, golden hair clumped with blood, and that doll-like profile bathed in the moonlight.
It was none other than the girl they had abducted!
But at this moment, the girl's beautiful profile was also tainted with blood, adding a touch of brutality and eeriness.
"By the Divine Lord! Lup! It's that girl we brought here!"
The timid attendant couldn't help but whisper.
Startled by the whisper, the petite figure abruptly stopped her actions.
She turned her head slowly, and what came into the attendant's view was a familiar and attractive face.
However, at this moment, her eyes, once as blue as the sky, had turned completely blood-red, the crimson pupils filled with madness.
She looked at the two men and smiled faintly, her sharp teeth dripping with fresh blood.
Ominous, eerie, yet beautiful...
The two attendants shivered with cold.
In a panic, the timid attendant pulled the trigger directly, and a Crossbow Arrow shot out, piercing through the girl's chest, spurting out a spray of blood.
The girl trembled slightly, slowly lowered her head, and looked at the crossbow bolt that had entered her body.
"Damn it! Anthony, what are you doing!"
Seeing the pierced girl, another attendant's eyes widened with an even more terrified expression.
However, the girl showed no reaction.
She tilted her head slightly, as if without any sensation, her crazed and bewildered gaze fell on the arrow's fletching, seemingly pondering in a slow-witted manner about what had just happened.
Then, she raised her hand slowly and grasped the exposed half of the Crossbow Arrow—
With a swift motion,
She pulled it out!
In the horror-stricken gaze of the two attendants, they saw blood splatter as the ghastly wound on the girl's chest began to slowly heal!
"Clatter"...
The attendant who had pulled the trigger trembled slightly, the crossbow falling from his hands onto the ground.
"Monster... she... she's a monster!"
He exclaimed with wide eyes and a trembling voice.
"It's a Blood Demon! Run for it!"
As something dawned on him, the expression of the other changed dramatically.
Without hesitation, he turned and ran.
However, just as he had turned around, the girl who had been kneeling in the forest appeared before him out of nowhere.
Silent... and without a trace.
That beautiful yet eerie face was now less than thirty centimeters from his own!
He could even see the delicate pores on the girl's face and smell the sweet yet overwhelmingly bloody scent from her...
The girl stood in front of him, toying with a beating heart in her hand.
She leaned in slightly, her warm, fragrant breath nearly reaching the attendant's face:
"Where... do you think you're going?"
The attendant's hair stood on end.
He endeavored to raise his crossbow to counter-attack, but felt a dull pain in his chest, his body softened, and he slowly fell...
The last thing on his mind as his consciousness faded was:
Oh...
That heart... was mine.
"Thump!"
The remaining attendant immediately fell seated on the ground.
Staring at the girl drenched in blood under the moonlight, he was slack in gaze, trembling violently – it was clear he was terrified by the scene.
The girl's crimson eyes moved slowly, her crazed sight falling upon him.
Stricken with terror, the attendant broke down, feces and urine flowing:
"Don't... don't kill me! Don't kill me!"
"I surrender... I surrender...!"
