Bizarre Honkai, a Wife-Chasing Crematorium

Chapter 78: The Ninth Crossing

Li Mo pieced together the sequence of events.

His dream self, empowered by the Bizarre, had contaminated the Cocoon of Finality. Kiana, consuming the tainted Cocoon, had transformed into the terrifying Bizarre Kiana over eons of distorted time.

"I need to talk to MEI," he murmured. "She'll have some answers."

He paused mid-step, noticing a faint kiss mark on his neck. Casually, he wiped it away, straightening his collar and smoothing his ruffled white hair.

A familiar milky scent lingered on his skin.

He hadn't witnessed it, but the scene after he passed out was easy to imagine.

Hopefully, MEI didn't see anything too disturbing…

With a sigh, he stepped over the shattered door frame and entered the common area.

MEI, Elysia, and Pardofelis were already at the breakfast table, chatting casually over takeout.

"Hi, Little Mo! Good morning!" Elysia chirped, flashing her signature bright smile.

"Morning, Mo-bro! Want some breakfast? MEI bought it," Pardofelis offered, shifting to make space for him.

MEI glanced up, her expression deadpan. "You're awake. The surgery was a success. You're a Valkyrie now."

Li Mo blinked, instinctively checking himself. Still a man. Just a joke.

"Meow! Meow!"

"Can, don't you start too! Behave, or else!" He picked up the cat, nibbling its ear playfully. If he couldn't tease MEI, at least he could tease the cat.

"Wait, Mo-bro, you misunderstood!" Pardofelis blurted, her hands waving in protest. "Can's just saying he's hungry!"

Li Mo smirked. "I know, I know. I'm kidding."

He set Can down and joined them at the table.

After breakfast, MEI slid the Notebook across the table.

"The Notebook? You took it out?" Li Mo asked, his voice sharp. They'd agreed to lock it away.

"Bad news," MEI said calmly. "The Bizarre in that world is spreading. It's even reached our world. If we don't act, it could contaminate countless others…"

Li Mo's expression hardened. "Any other information?"

MEI hesitated, omitting some details. "It's memetic contamination. Not like the Head Bizarre. This one distorts reality. Everything is both real and fake, depending on the Bizarre's whim…"

Li Mo frowned, the weight of her words sinking in.

"Contaminating entire worlds… That's troublesome. Without a frame of reference, how can you be sure your perception is accurate? At least with cognitive contamination, you can use logic to check yourself. But if logic itself is corrupted…"

He let the thought trail off, a heavy silence filling the room.

"I see why you gave me the Notebook," he finally said, picking it up.

His mind raced, assessing the situation. A spreading Bizarre, without the Bizarre Kiana's power… This would be difficult.

If it was anything like the last world, teeming with Bizarre entities, it could take a while.

"Elysia's not coming with me?" Li Mo asked, a hint of disappointment in his tone. Elysia's presence would have made things considerably easier.

MEI hesitated, glancing briefly at Elysia. "She's staying here. I have other plans for her."

Li Mo nodded. "Alright. I'll be careful."

He knew MEI had her reasons. She wouldn't rely on the Notebook if Elysia could easily handle the situation.

Come to think of it, how long had it been since Elysia ventured into another world? Three years? Since that incident, she'd stayed in their world, leaving the heavy lifting to him and Hua.

He pushed the thought aside. Their world needed protection too.

"Stay safe," MEI said firmly. "You have two trump cards."

Li Mo raised an eyebrow but didn't interrupt.

"But I'd prefer you use the Notebook," she continued. "The Bizarre Kiana is unstable. You could pay a heavy price, maybe even die. I can only guarantee her non-interference while you're dreaming."

She slid a phone across the table. "I've loaded some audio and text files onto this. If… if you reach your limit, open them. They might help you regain your bearings."

MEI didn't mention the Notebook's prophecy.

The future could be changed. Telling him he'd return safely might make him careless, altering the outcome.

Besides, she wasn't sure what the Notebook meant by "safely." Physical safety? Mental safety? Bizarre entities loved their word games.

"Resolved," but not specifying how. Sealed? Delayed? Or simply ignored?

Li Mo packed his gear: a thermometer, a gun, the Notebook, and his phone. Memetic contamination could affect electronics, so he didn't trust any of them—not even the thermometer or the Notebook. He'd have to rely on logic and deduction.

And if logic failed… resets.

The Misfortune Ghost was still dormant. As for the Bizarre Kiana…

"The Notebook warned me. Next time I summon her without a countermeasure, I'll die." He knew her power well. Even escaping to another timeline wouldn't save him.

"A countermeasure… Perhaps I'll find something in this new world. A Bizarre entity whose rules conflict with hers." He wasn't optimistic. Few Bizarre entities could rival her. She was arguably the most dangerous one he'd encountered.

"Humans… trapped in the mire, yearning for the sky. Embracing ugliness, dreaming of beauty."

Rain poured over the city, a heavy, oppressive blanket of gray. People hurried past, heads bowed, lost in their own worlds.

"Ninth time," Li Mo muttered, standing at the cave entrance. From naive recklessness to cautious planning, each journey a brush with death, each return a victory.

He didn't know how much longer he could keep going, but he wouldn't stop.

Perhaps influenced by the dream, he found himself echoing the Notebook's words:

"My name is Li Mo. I am dying, and I am about to be reborn."
