Chapter 1: Chapter 1 – “The Hustle Begins”
University of Lagos – Afternoon
The scorching Lagos sun beat down on the campus, making the air thick and heavy. Students poured out of the lecture halls, some chatting, others rushing to their next classes. Joshua adjusted his backpack and sighed. Another three-hour class, another long day of trying to balance school and the hustle.
His phone vibrated. A message from Tolu.
Tolu: "Omo, where you dey? That business still sure?"
Joshua exhaled, quickly replying.
Joshua: "Give me five minutes."
Money was tight. Tuition, rent, daily expenses—it all piled up. And scholarships? Not an option. If he was going to survive and thrive, he needed money.
That's why he was stepping into the game.
He adjusted his wristwatch and started walking toward the campus café. Today was important—his first real deal.
Campus Café – 3:45 PM
The café was crowded, filled with students arguing over football, gossiping about lecturers, and pretending to study. But Joshua wasn't here for any of that.
In the far corner, a man in a fitted navy-blue shirt scrolled through his phone, completely relaxed. Mr. Samuel.
This was the man who could make or break Joshua's first business attempt. A supplier with access to imported phone accessories, laptops, and gadgets—things students always needed.
Tolu nudged Joshua. "Omo, you sure say this guy no go run us street?"
Joshua smirked. "If he try am, I go find am."
With that, they approached the table.
Mr. Samuel looked up, eyes sharp. "You the one asking about wholesale?"
Joshua nodded. "Yes. I have buyers ready."
Samuel studied him, then leaned back. "Fifty thousand naira upfront. I'll deliver the goods in two days."
Tolu sucked his teeth. "Fifty what? No discount?"
Samuel chuckled. "Business no be charity."
Joshua exhaled. Fifty thousand. Almost everything he had. If this failed, he was finished.
He locked eyes with Samuel. "We have a deal."
As they shook hands, Joshua felt it—the first step toward something bigger.
Later That Evening – Hostel Courtyard
Joshua leaned against the railing of the hostel balcony, staring at the busy campus below. His mind was racing. He had just risked everything.
A soft voice pulled him from his thoughts.
"You look stressed."
He turned to see Amara, standing beside him with her arms crossed.
She was effortlessly beautiful—dark skin glowing under the hostel lights, eyes sharp and full of mischief. She had always been the one who could read him too well.
Joshua forced a grin. "Me? Stressed? Never."
She gave him a look. "Liar. What's wrong?"
He sighed. "Just... business."
Amara raised an eyebrow. "Ah. So you're finally entering the billionaire path?"
Joshua chuckled. "Something like that."
She smiled, stepping closer. "Just don't let it change you, okay?"
There was something in her voice—something deeper.
Joshua met her gaze, his heart beating a little faster. "I won't."
For a moment, neither of them spoke. Just the sound of the night breeze and the distant laughter of students below.
Then, she smirked. "Good. Because if you start forming big man, I'll personally humble you."
Joshua laughed. "I don't doubt that."
The moment passed, but it lingered in his mind long after she left.
Maybe money wasn't the only thing on his mind.
Two Days Later – The First Shipment
Joshua's heart pounded as he waited in front of a small shop in Yaba.
This was it—the moment of truth.
A white delivery van pulled up. Mr. Samuel stepped out, a cigarette between his lips.
"You came alone?" he asked.
Joshua nodded. "No need for drama."
Samuel grinned. "I like that."
The van doors swung open, revealing boxes of phone accessories—chargers, earpieces, power banks, all neatly packed.
Joshua did a quick count. Everything was there.
Samuel flicked his cigarette away. "Nice doing business."
Joshua handed over the fifty thousand naira. It hurt, but he knew it was worth it.
As the van drove off, he pulled out his phone and sent a message to his first five customers.
Joshua: "Your orders have arrived. Meet me at the hostel."
The hustle had begun.
And this was only the beginning.
