Chapter 61: Chapter 61: Leaving
Chapter 61: Leaving
At the auction house, in the guest lounge.
Yafei sat gracefully in a chair, her right leg crossed over her left. The slit of her long red cheongsam revealed a tantalizing glimpse of snow-white skin.
As his departure drew near, Mo Yu decided to visit the Mittel Auction House one last time. He needed to buy supplies for his journey and wanted to see Yafei. He also worried about leaving his grandfather behind.
Yafei glanced at a long list in her hand, then looked at the handsome young man beside her in surprise. "Mo Yu, why do you need so many supplies? Are you planning to travel far?"
"Yes. I'll be leaving Wu Tan City in a few days, and it might be a long time before I return," Mo Yu replied, taking a sip of tea and smiling.
"A long time?" Yafei blinked in surprise. "Are you traveling with your master?"
Mo Yu smiled and nodded, not bothering to elaborate on the fictional master he had invented.
"Sigh, with your talent, staying in Wu Tan City would indeed make it difficult to become truly strong." Yafei nodded gently, her voice tinged with a hint of melancholy.
Reluctantly, she handed him a card, then called a maid to process his order.
"After I'm gone, I hope the Mittel Auction House will look after the Xiao family and my grandfather. If you ever need my help in the future, Yafei, I won't hesitate to repay the favor," Mo Yu said, looking at the alluring woman before him.
"Alright," Yafei's eyes sparkled at the promise. She gazed at Mo Yu, slowly nodding.
As they prepared to part ways, an awkward silence filled the room.
After a few minutes, the tension between them grew palpable. Mo Yu noticed a maid approaching and decided to break the silence. "I'm leaving. This might be the last time I visit you before I go."
Yafei reached out and gently patted his shoulder. Then, as if a sudden thought crossed her mind, she leaned forward and wrapped her arms around the young man in a warm embrace.
"This is the interest for all the times you've teased me," she whispered seductively in his ear. The intoxicating scent of her perfume filled his nostrils, and Mo Yu raised an eyebrow.
In response, Mo Yu suddenly tightened his arms around her slender waist.
"Getting interest from me isn't that easy," he replied with a smirk.
After a few moments, Mo Yu released her, gave a casual wave, and turned to leave.
"Yafei, until we meet again."
As Mo Yu's figure disappeared around the corner, Yafei's flushed cheeks gradually returned to normal. She gently touched the spot where Mo Yu's hand had been, feeling the warmth linger.
"Damn brat, taking advantage of me again!" Yafei muttered, her teeth clenched in frustration. The memory of their brief embrace stirred strange emotions within her.
Leaving the auction house, Mo Yu couldn't help but smile at the thought of the soft sensation from earlier.
"No wonder those with the Heavenly Lightning Body find it hard to resist such temptations. That feeling was indeed delightful." After indulging in the memory for a moment, Mo Yu shook the thoughts from his mind.
Ultimately, strength was the most important thing. Without power, not even a goddess would care for you. Even an ugly woman could insult you without fear.
With all his supplies gathered, Mo Yu spent the next two days in peaceful solitude, cherishing his last moments with his grandfather.
His grandfather seemed to understand Mo Yu's intentions, spending these days nagging him about various things. Most of it was nonsense, but Mo Yu listened quietly.
During these peaceful days, even the usually lively Xiao Yu noticed something was different. The young lady clung to Mo Yu more than usual, her eyes filled with reluctance and longing.
As he walked along the family's paths, Mo Yu stretched and took a deep breath. Today was the day he would leave. He had already visited Xun'er and knew his destination.
"Cousin Mo Yu, based on your request, the forces behind me have carefully investigated and found that the Twenty-Second Heavenly Flame, the Myriad Beasts Flame, was once sighted in the Myriad Beasts Valley of the Mu Lan Empire."
Remembering Xun'er's words, Mo Yu felt a sense of relief.
"The Twenty-Second Myriad Beasts Flame, in the Myriad Beasts Valley of the Mu Lan Empire. I'm lucky indeed."
His plan had been to find a low-ranking Heavenly Flame to feed to his Heavenly Thunder, but he hadn't expected much success.
After all, the Dou Qi Continent was vast, and finding a specific Heavenly Flame was nearly impossible. That's why he had sought Xun'er's help. Even with her connections, Mo Yu wasn't confident that the Ancient Clan would find anything, and even if they did, it might be in a far-off region that was beyond his reach.
Crossing the continent was a dangerous endeavor, something even Dou Zong (Dou Ancestor) experts wouldn't undertake lightly. As for asking Xun'er to deliver the Heavenly Flame to him directly, Mo Yu wasn't that shameless. Their relationship wasn't close enough for Xun'er to go to such lengths.
Fortunately, the Heavenly Flame was located in the Mu Lan Empire's Myriad Beasts Valley, which wasn't too far from the Jia Ma Empire. The Mu Lan Empire was one of the three empires surrounding Jia Nan Academy.
Traveling to the Mu Lan Empire wasn't overly dangerous for Mo Yu at this point.
Moreover, Xun'er had mentioned that the Myriad Beasts Flame had only recently formed. A clan elder had discovered it several hundred years ago while traveling through the Northwestern Continent, but since it was just a seed at the time, they hadn't taken it.
This was another piece of good news for Mo Yu. Heavenly Flames often took thousands of years to mature. Several hundred years might seem long to a person or a family, but to a Heavenly Flame, it was just the beginning of its growth phase.
A weaker, less mature Heavenly Flame was perfect for Mo Yu. This way, he wouldn't have to worry about his Heavenly Thunder being overwhelmed and consumed by the flame, which would have been disastrous.
As Mo Yu walked along the small path back to his room, he thought about his upcoming journey.
He didn't have much to take with him. Most of his belongings were already packed in his storage ring, so there wasn't much else to prepare.
Standing at his door, Mo Yu looked at his grandfather, who was peacefully napping. He smiled softly and quietly closed the door, the last rays of sunlight fading away as he did.
Sensing his grandson's departure, the old man slowly opened his eyes after Mo Yu left. He reached for a tablet at the head of his bed, on which the name "Mo Jingyun" was inscribed. The elder's cloudy eyes filled with deep sorrow.
"Jingyun, Mo Yu has left. You have a good son. If you can watch over him from the afterlife, may you help him avenge us…"
Mo Yu's departure went unnoticed by anyone else. Dressed in a simple green outfit, the young man left the Xiao family compound empty-handed. With a respectful nod from the guards at the gate, he slowly disappeared down the street.
As Mo Yu walked out of Wu Tan City, he spotted a familiar figure at a corner.
"Cousin Xiao Yan…"
