Chapter 10: Chapter 10: Confrontation
In the dimly lit, narrow underground chamber, several dark drones hovered silently, their rotors emitting faint mechanical hums.
Across from them stood Joker, clad in his signature purple suit, his twisted grin spreading wider with every passing second.
"How is this possible?" Adam muttered to himself, his eyes fixed on the screen displaying the feed from the drones.
Joker, hearing his words through the speakers, erupted into wild laughter.
"Possible? Sir, with your lovely toys, everything's possible!"
The maniacal laughter echoed through the underground space, but Adam's expression remained grim.
This is Joker.
The most unpredictable and dangerous villain Gotham had ever produced.
Despite being a mere mortal, Joker had outmaneuvered superpowered foes and survived situations that should've killed him ten times over.
He was chaos personified—and killing him wouldn't be easy.
"Skynet, scan and analyze," Adam ordered.
While the drones were immobilized, they could still transmit data.
Adam needed answers. Quickly.
Joker, however, wasn't about to let the silence linger.
"Sir, since you're clearly not here in person, why don't we have a chat? I'm dying to know more about my gracious host!"
Adam hesitated. He didn't want to engage Joker in a battle of words, knowing how manipulative the man could be.
But he needed time—and Joker loved to talk.
"Fine," Adam replied through the speakers. "What do you want to talk about?"
Joker's eyes gleamed with curiosity.
"The Court of Owls. What is it?"
Adam's lips twitched into a smirk.
So that's what Joker wanted.
Despite being one of Gotham's most notorious villains, Joker had never even heard of the Court of Owls—a secretive cabal that had pulled Gotham's strings for centuries.
The thought of Joker fearing something more powerful than himself amused Adam.
"Well, well. Looks like even Gotham's 'Clown Prince of Crime' has gaps in his knowledge."
Joker's grin widened.
"Curiosity killed the cat, or so they say. But satisfaction brought it back, didn't it?"
"Let's make a deal," Joker continued. "Tell me about the Court of Owls, and I'll let your precious drones go. They must have cost a fortune!"
Adam almost laughed.
Sure, the drones were expensive—millions apiece, not counting development costs.
But for Wayne Enterprises, it was pocket change.
And Joker had no idea he was dealing with someone who had access to Bruce Wayne's resources.
"Sorry, Joker. No deal."
"Besides," Adam added coldly, "I've already disabled your electromagnetic restraint device. Did you really think it would stop me?"
A few keystrokes later, dazzling arcs of electricity rippled across the drones.
Their rotors whirred back to life.
But Joker was already moving.
Before the drones could fire, he whipped out two pistols and started shooting.
The dark, cramped space was barely lit, yet Joker's aim was deadly accurate.
Bullets tore through several drones, sending them crashing to the floor.
Adam's jaw dropped.
Joker didn't have superpowers—so how the hell was he shooting like this?
Using nothing but flashes of light from the drones and the sound of their rotors, Joker had pinpointed their locations and shot them down.
"This is insane," Adam muttered.
Joker's brilliance wasn't limited to his mind—his physical abilities were equally terrifying.
A true monster.
"Impressive," Adam said through the speakers, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
"Even the Navy SEALs would envy those skills."
Joker gave an exaggerated bow, looking every bit the deranged performer he was.
"Why, thank you! A gentleman must always be prepared to defend his stage."
He spoke with mock elegance, his crazed energy blending seamlessly with his theatrical charm.
But Adam wasn't impressed.
"Unfortunately, Mr. Joker, the show isn't over yet."
Joker raised an eyebrow.
"Why not?"
Adam snapped his fingers.
Dozens of new drones emerged from the shadows, their gun barrels gleaming ominously.
Joker's grin faltered.
Adam smirked.
"Now do you understand?"
He wasn't going to make the same mistake twice. This time, he sent hundreds of drones—nearly the entire Wayne arsenal.
Joker's expression twisted in frustration.
"Big spender, huh?"
He muttered under his breath, cursing Adam's seemingly limitless resources.
Joker might rob banks, but the fortune needed to match the wealth of Wayne Enterprises was beyond his reach.
"This is getting ridiculous," Joker spat, his face contorting with anger.
"Not at all," Adam replied smoothly.
"This is just a warm-up."
"Now, Mr. Joker, what's your next move? Your magnetic device is out of power, and I doubt you've got any backup energy sources hidden in this sewer."
"Better take out your trump card now—before you lose the chance."
Joker lowered his head, his shoulders trembling.
A low chuckle escaped him.
Then it grew louder.
"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"
Adam froze, watching Joker's maniacal laughter echo through the underground space.
"What the hell is so funny?"
Joker's laughter continued, his twisted smile growing wider as his body shook uncontrollably.
Adam's fingers hovered over the controls.
Something wasn't right.
Joker had planned for this.
