Chapter 4: Talent test
There was about thirty children all at the age of ten about to be tested, nobles from the neighbouring kingdoms and other powers, children of wealthy merchants and other powerful figures, then there were the commoners receiving looks of curiosity, but that was overshadowed by the looks of spite and disgust.
The bishop ignoring all this proceeded with the event, calling the first child on the first row, with short black hair and sapphire blue eyes, dressed in black trousers and a white formal shirt, his build was on the plump side, with chubby cheeks he looked almost ordinary if it wasn't for all the jewellery on him.
I might not look like it, but I'm very excited, i haven't seen so many peers, yes I know I'm actually older and i probably wouldn't be friends with any of them but still happy I'm not alone, so I watch as the little guy goes up and arrives at the top, he waits as something rises from the floor.
It's a crystal pillar about 2 meters tall and 20 centimetres thick, i didn't sense anything special about it, just looks like a normal crystal pillar.
"This is a powerful treasure capable of measuring your magic talents and elemental affinity, you are to place your hand on its surface and try to inject as much mana as you can in it, it will measure the quality and quantity of your mana, so the more powerful your mana is, the more of the crystal you'll fill up, I won't explain too much, just watch and learn".
The old man seemed quite lazy to explain, but i do grasp the abilities of the crystal, on the other hand I wasn't expecting that they used a 2 meter tall crystal pillar, I was kinda expecting a talking hat or some sort of animal but oh well guess this is not that type of world.
I look at the stage as the chubby kid places his hand on the crystal, I could feel something moving from his palm, being absorbed by the crystal. Then the crystal started glowing a deep shade of blue that went up filling up 50% of the crystal, then it stopped.
We waited for the bishop to announce the results as we had no idea what this meant.
" Excellent, superior talent of the water element, that's a good way to start, next".
The little guy was so excited as he descended the stairs he almost tripped, bro couldn't stop smiling.
The next child who followed was a girl, she quite literally looked like a princess, with long silky purple hair and violet eyes that gleamed with an uncanny intelligence, her long pink dress was flowing, and she gracefully ascended the stairs with confidence.
Standing in front of the crystal she didn't wait for anything as she placed her palm on the crystal, with a smile, I wish I had her confidence. I watched as she injected her mana into the crystal, i was expecting something really special with how confidence she was.
The crystal glowed, a deep purple and I could even see sparks of lightning flashing inside and around the crystal, her mana filled 75% of the crystal and it even went higher filling up 80% of it.
"Wonderful!"
The bishop shouted with his eyes wide, unable to hide his shock and happiness.
"That's a peak heavenly talent of the lightning element, just below the saint level, little lady, with enough hard work you can reach the level of saints and become a top figure in this world".
The bishop praised the smiling little girl who couldn't be any prouder of her results, there was also relief in her eyes.
"You must be the 4th princess of the Barak kingdom, If you wish to join the church we will welcome you with open arms".
" Thank you for your kind words your excellency". The princess said with a elegant curtsy, then she descended the stairs.
I'm definitely enjoying myself here, today is a reminder that I'm in a fantasy world, I almost forgot with how monotone and boring these few years have been, doing the same thing everyday is driving me crazy.
I wake up, eat, go to the library, read, pray, eat, sleep, that is so boring, it might sound like the perfect life to some, yeah if I was back on earth it would be fun, but now I'm in the magic world, I want to go on adventurers, slay a dragon and rescue a princess trapped in a tall tower.
Ok not exactly like that but you know what I mean…Oh no I got lost in my thoughts again, let me focus on the show, another kid just went up, and he came down crying as he got a common talent with the fire element, guess not everyone is a super genius.
More children went up and came down crying due to their common talents, I think about eleven got common talents, that sucks, poor fellows, there were also two more who got superior talent, it was two girls both from noble families.
If we count the eleven that got common level talent and add with those who got higher talents then the total tested is fifteen, so we're already halfway through and so far so good I think as the bishop has been excited all this time.
The Archbishop on the side was barely moved, i only saw him smile once, when the purple haired princess was on stage.
Next up on the line was the commoners, three of them to be exact, two boys and girl, according to Faith, these three are from the orphanage.
