Chapter 78: The Top 10 in the Trial, Get in the Sack!
"Human child," said the World Serpent, his killing intent suffocating everything for millions of miles on end. "If you hadn't taken care of that undeserving thief, I would've done it myself. But seeing as you did, I think |Dragon Lord's Heavenly Requiem| now rightfully belongs to you. Cultivate it well."
A jaded black slab flew into Knox's grasp. Engraved on it was a complete Core Formation Realm cultivation technique of the Half-Saint Rank.
'Dragon Lord's Heavenly Requiem,' he thought excitedly, transmitting its contents to his brain right away. 'What an amazing technique!'
"Thank you very much, Big Master!" Knox said, his smile reaching both of his ears. "This lowly, stupid, incompetent, useless trash will try his best to live up to your expectations!"
"...Yes…"
Seeing as he might just decide later that it would be less of a hassle to simply devour his troublesome disciple, the World Serpent turned his massive head to the north. There, a huge crack in space was in the process of opening.
"Disciple Bob—"
"Who?" Knox asked. "Oh yeah, silly me, always forgetting my god-given name."
"...Human child," the World Serpent said in exasperation. "The 1st Trial will be ending any second now. And as an Otherworlder, your primary goal should be doing whatever it takes to reach the 3rd Trial and place 1st. But do be cautioned, the next Trial will be held in a hidden layer of space in Pandora. Moreover, it will be a Trial heavily related to breaking through to the Soul Formation Realm. As you aren't even of the Core Formation Realm, you'll naturally be at a disadvantage. Yet, even if that may be the case, your combat strength is more absurd than anything I've seen before. So very, very absurd."
"Thanks, Big Master!" Knox exclaimed. "I try my best to live up to your esteemed reputation!"
"...Sure…" The World Serpent dodged the subject. "I've gauged the fellow Otherworlders who came with you when you awakened me. They're not short of talent—and with their cultivation being far higher than yours—it would be wise of you to be astute in the following two Trials."
"With my |Supreme Devourer| Technique, you should be able to better stand your ground," he continued. "But still…"
"You worry too much, Big Master," Knox waved his hand dismissively. "They're just a bunch of kiddos. Bend them over one knee and slap them on the buttocks, and they'll behave themselves. It's as simple as that."
*Silence…*
"...Okay, you should really be going now," said the World Serpent in a hurried tone. "Like now, now."
"But Big Master—" Knox tried to say before being forcefully teleported by the space crack that opened up tens of millions of miles away.
"Good Lord… He's finally gone," the World Serpent said with a relieved sigh. "I thought it would never end."
RUMBLE!!
The Grand Guardian of the Devilstar Secret Realm's 1st Trial retreated into a deep slumber. He hoped he'd never be awoken again—at least, never by that weird-as-f*ck human he took on as a disciple solely because of his immense talent.
'Were humans always this scary…?'
The final thoughts of the World Serpent echoed out before he closed his eyes—a pair of piercing green and black globes that could remain closed for the next few centuries.
— Meanwhile, in the area between Dimensions, the Tally Spot for all Trial Takers of the Devilstar Secret Realm —
FWIP! FWIP! FWIP!
Seventy-three cultivators from the Elemental Nations suddenly found themselves in an unfamiliar environment. Hanging above their heads for all to see was a giant illusory whiteboard with various digital numbers and names depicted on it.
The Trial Point Tally Board.
It was what would determine the fates of many, for 1st Trial rewards were acquired based on how one ranked on the Tally Board. As proven this time around, most would be in the later Golden Core or early Nascent Soul stages—with millions of Trial Points to their name.
Ranks 73 through 21 pretty much had the same amount of Points, ranging from 1.1 million to 9.9 million.
Everyone in the Top 20, however, had at least 10 million Points. Furthermore, the Top 11-15 were past 100 million, which created huge gaps between each rank.
Then there were the Trial Takers in the Top 10. All of them had 500 million+ Points—substantially more than the original top rankers had during the midway part of the Trial.
As for the Top 5, every single one of them was past a billion. Some even neared 10 billion.
Last but not least, there was the person placed #1—the absolute winner of the Devilstar Secret Realm's 1st Trial!
"Surely this must be a glitch or something… right?" someone questioned, his eyes so wide they looked to be on the verge of popping out.
"No, it can't be! It's the same guy as before!!"
"What guy!?"
"The one who was rank 1 when the 2nd Quarterly results were shown to us…! He fell off during the 3rd Quarterly, but there's no mistaking it! He has made a comeback!! CallMeDaddy has retaken his throne—and done so by a landslide!!!"
{{[CallMeDaddy]}} - [1st place - 1.32 Trillion Points]
[#2: BladeMaster] - [8.7 Billion Points]
[#3: DimensionalAdvocate] - [8.5 Billion Points]
When those in 2nd through 10th saw who ranked at the very top, they were astonished, to say the least. This was especially the case for Lucidador and Nala, both of whom were extremely confident about having a close tie for 1st with the 4th Quarterly results.
The Six-Winged Seraphim Eye's presence gave them the chance to truly see who was best among the two of them—and they were right—it was a close tie.
But not for 1st place…
No, 1st place belonged to the one and only!
"CallMeDaddy, heh," Knox laughed goofily in the background, acting as inconspicuous as possible. 'Are you seeing what your Big Brother has accomplished, Lily?'
Lily—who was hiding away in a very, very expensive Spatial Sack—poked her adorable face out for a moment. She looked at the Tally Board, yet wasn't the least bit surprised by the result.
'Big Bro too talented,' she voice transmitted. 'Those losers didn't stand a chance. Also, Big Bro has comprehended more of the Time Law than I have; they stood even less of a chance.'
Spoken like a true mini-me!
'I also think Master is the most talented—'
'Shut up, you dumb bastard!' Knox reprimanded poor Rayzer. 'No one asked for your damn opinion!'
'Master… Have you still not forgiven me for trying to ride your back—'
'Hush! And go further into the sack! Further than the eye can see!'
'Y…Yes, Master…'
