Chapter 113: Chapter 113: Safety First
At this moment, Doomsday resembled a giant laser light show, its body continuously emitting brilliant green beams. When the radiance finally ceased, the monstrous creature collapsed, lifeless, falling backward into the rubble.
The terrifying beast was finally dead.
---
High in the sky, Azu exhaled in relief.
As someone who had read the script, he understood Doomsday's true power and just how dangerous it was.
In the original movie, Superman had to sacrifice himself, wielding a kryptonite spear to perish alongside the monster.
Azu, however, had no intention of engaging in such a suicidal endeavor. To play it safe, he created a duplicate to wield the kryptonite spear and deal the killing blow. In the end, he only stepped in to finish the job, using a high-temperature energy torrent to heat the spear and cause an internal explosion, eradicating the beast entirely.
Now, lines of [Proficiency Information] appeared on his retina, but he didn't bother to review them in detail. Dismissing his duplicate, he ascended into the sky, disappearing into the vast expanse of stars.
---
On the ground, Batman stood beside Doomsday's corpse, verifying that the monster was truly dead.
The sound of rushing wind signaled Wonder Woman's arrival as she landed beside him. Staring at the lifeless creature, she spoke, "This thing must be dealt with. We can't let anyone exploit it again."
Batman nodded.
Diana continued, "Who exactly is that man? He seems to have the ability to duplicate himself. I've never heard of anyone like him before."
Shaking his head, Batman replied, "I don't know. I'm not even sure if he's a friend or foe."
Wonder Woman cast a sidelong glance at Bruce and remarked, "What's certain is that he's incredibly dangerous—and utterly unhinged. To him, ordinary people are like ants. He doesn't seem to value human life at all."
"Unlike Superman," she added pointedly.
Batman looked up and said, "Superman might undergo some changes—psychologically, I mean."
Diana froze. "Why do you say that?"
Sighing, Batman explained, "The woman he loved most died right in front of him."
"And the one who killed her—was me."
Diana stared at Bruce, momentarily at a loss for words.
Bruce tapped Doomsday's corpse and said, "Leave it to me."
Then he added, "Do you have a phone? I think we'll need to stay in touch from now on."
---
The sound of wind howled as Azu landed back at the hotel.
He arrived outside Lin Aida's room and, seeing her safe inside, let out a small breath of relief. However, the sight of the glowing portal behind the open door made his heart skip a beat.
Adjusting the power of his heat vision, he carefully cut through the window and climbed in.
The sudden rush of night air startled Lin Aida, but Azu quickly reassured her. "Don't be afraid—it's just me opening the window."
Lin Aida blinked in surprise. "Mr. John, when did you come in?"
"Just now," Azu replied casually.
She immediately grabbed his hand, her voice anxious. "Mr. John, the hotel just notified us to evacuate. I was about to look for you, but you told me no matter what happens, not to leave. So…I came back here."
Good thing you listened, Azu thought to himself. Otherwise, you'd have left me stranded in this universe.
Clearing his throat, he said, "Actually, I was just about to tell you—the 'door' has opened."
"The door to go home."
Lin Aida's eyes lit up. "Really? Then let's hurry back! This place feels so dangerous. There's been constant explosions outside."
Well, yeah, that's because I just wrecked half the city, Azu mused wryly.
Glancing out the window, he then took her hand and said, "Let's go. Time to head home."
The two of them stepped into the radiant portal, which shimmered briefly before vanishing entirely.
A gust of wind swept through the room, lifting a newspaper off the table. The front page showed a photo of Superman, soaring into the sky, heading toward the sun.
---
When the light subsided, Azu realized they had emerged in Lin Aida's kitchen back in her rented apartment.
They were home!
Lin Aida looked around and asked hesitantly, "Are we back?"
Azu nodded. "We're back."
Glancing outside, he saw the familiar night skyline. Turning on the TV, he found it was still broadcasting today's news about Homelander being appointed as a defense official.
Despite spending two days in the DC Universe, only a few seconds had passed in the world of The Boys.
Perfect, Azu thought with satisfaction. This way, even if I travel to other universes, I won't miss out on anything here.
"It's late. Get some rest," he said, letting go of Lin Aida's hand with a smile. "Goodnight, Miss Lin."
"Goodnight, Mr. John," she replied, though her hand felt strangely empty as he pulled away.
"Call me John," he added, glancing back. "We're friends now, aren't we? No need to be so formal."
Lin Aida felt warmth bloom in her chest. Smiling softly, she nodded. "Alright, John. Goodnight."
As soon as Azu left, he returned to the Seven Tower.

Before his eyes, lines of text began to appear:

[Reward settlement complete!]
[Your shop inventory has been updated with new items.]
Azu let out a breath.
The rewards were decent.
He had gained a total of 53 [Proficiency Essence] units, as well as the Justice Cloak and Doomsday Seed. There was also the mysterious Multiversal Crystals, whose use he had yet to determine.
Opening his inventory, he checked the two items:
[Justice Cloak]: Embodying Superman's spirit of heroism, this cloak grants its wearer the protection of a bio-field. Even if the cloak is destroyed, it can negate one fatal attack.
[Doomsday Seed]: A consumable item. Infuse it with energy to grow a loyal Doomsday that will fight for you until its death—or survive for 48 hours.
"Not bad," Azu murmured. "The former is a defensive treasure, while the latter gives me a pet Doomsday on command."
