Chapter 12: Chapter 12: Trouble Has Arrived
Before heading out for some fun, Steven had an important prerequisite to address: changing his clothes.
The torn and blood-stained clothes on him were hardly fit to be called rags.
However, instead of casually throwing them away, he put them in his backpack as a memento.
The old village chief was efficient, and as soon as Steven finished changing, he brought two reasonably fitting sets of clothes.
Steven, feeling the uncomfortable texture of the hemp-like fabric, didn't mind and put them on.
As long as it wasn't too uncomfortable, it made no difference to him.
However, when he picked up the remaining set of women's clothing, he could only look back at the girl lying back on the bed.
Could she really change clothes independently with her current intelligence? If he changed them for her, wouldn't it be inappropriate?
His worries were unnecessary. Gladiia, after watching Steven change, took the initiative to imitate him, picking up the remaining set of women's clothing and starting to put it on.
"Take off your clothes before putting them on," Steven, unable to watch, reminded her, pointing to her strange original outfit.
To his surprise, Gladiia seemed to understand, starting to take off her current clothes. Once the sounds of her changing clothes had faded away, Steven turned back.
Without her peculiar outfit, Gladiia lost the feeling of a sharp sword being unsheathed. The plain hemp long-sleeved garment gave her a somewhat ordinary girl-next-door vibe.
Seeing Steven turn around, Gladiia quickly approached him, grabbing his arm and revealing a happy smile.
Steven could probably understand her thoughts.
Judging by her current intelligence, just being able to wear the same clothes as her family made her very happy.
Children were the easiest to satisfy; with fewer desires, it was naturally easier to find contentment.
Gradually accepting his role as her "cheap dad," Steven tidied up the clothes she haphazardly put on. Afterward, he picked up the clothes she had taken off the floor, clothes still carrying a trace of warmth.
Having a self-contained backpack had its advantages.
Whether it was these discarded clothes or the peculiar trident-like weapon she had earlier, everything could be easily carried and accessed. And it didn't take up much space.
All these items were her belongings. When Gladiia regained her memory, he would have to return them to her.
"Dada, hungry," Gladiia, standing obediently beside Steven, watched him finish his tasks.
She then touched her stomach with a shy smile, softly telling her father about her current condition.
"Waking up and immediately thinking about eating, truly a child." Steven sighed, glancing at the partially cut piece of bread nearby. In the end, he chose not to torment the girl's stomach with it.
She's a patient, so it's better for her to eat something normal.
"I'll find some coal and roast potatoes for you later. In the meantime, use this as a cushion."
Steven took out a carrot from his backpack and handed it to the girl beside him. He patted the slightly shorter girl's head, who stood up just a bit shorter than him.
Thinking about it, apart from patting her head, they had only kissed, and he had earned nearly 500 points.
It made him waver for a moment.
If just a kiss brought in so many points, what about going further? Like, say, baby making activity?
Unfortunately, Steven was only considering it as a passing thought. He wasn't so depraved as to resort to such despicable means to earn points.
A little reflection on his appearance in the mirror, and Steven, seeing the tall and handsome young man in the reflection, felt a bit sentimental.
After so many years, his appearance hadn't changed much.
In his current state, he probably couldn't call himself a human anymore, right?
Seeing his original face in the mirror instead of the pixelated blocky figure, Steven quickly burst into laughter.
This was a good thing; living longer was more important.
Who cared if he was still considered human? It was better to say there were people willing to stop being human just to live a little longer.
No longer bothering with the non-nutritious question of the meaning of life, Steven turned to take the little tagalong with him.
But before he could push open the door, it swung open on its own from the outside. The one who came in was the most familiar person in the village, the old village chief.
However, the old man's face was grave, a sight Steven had never seen before.
"Pack your things; we need to leave. I know a secret passage out of the village."
As soon as he spoke, the old man urgently requested Steven and Gladiia to follow him.
His voice sounded tense due to nervousness.
"Huh? I'm here to rest in this village. There's no need to rush us out, right?"
"No time to explain. The agents of the Inquisition are already at the village entrance."
The old man grabbed Steven's arm and was ready to pull him out of the room. He mentioned a name that had intrigued Steven for a long time.
"So what?"
Steven let the old man pull him away from the room, moving in the opposite direction of entering the village, with Gladiia trailing like a shadow behind him.
The old man's strength didn't match his age at all, and the palm grabbing Steven's arm felt like a pair of pliers, making him uncomfortable.
Despite this, Steven continued to wear a smile and asked him, "What's the hurry?"
The old man explained anxiously, but soon, he couldn't pull Steven any further, almost stumbling to the ground.
Curious, Steven looked at the young man who had stopped. The elderly village chief noticed his gaze was directed behind him. A beam of light shone from the front, enveloping both Steven and the old man.
'Well, it looks like trouble has arrived.'
Under the bright light, Steven could clearly see the slender girl standing in the middle of the road, wielding a longsword.
Holy hell, this 'Inquisition' group, they even recruit children as their workers?
