Chapter 28: Chapter 28: Unmasking Shadows
The victory at Hogwarts was bittersweet, the air thick with the realization that their defenses had been breached and their plans compromised. As the alliance regrouped, Kai knew the time had come to root out the traitor among them. The weight of leadership pressed heavily on his shoulders, but failure was not an option.

A Meeting of Minds
In the war room within the Room of Requirement, the key leaders of the alliance gathered. Around the circular table sat Kai, Daphne, Harry, Hermione, Theo, Seraphine, Firenze, Ragnok, and Fleur. The tension in the room was palpable.
"We were betrayed," Kai began, his voice calm but firm. "The Death Eaters knew exactly where and when to strike. That's not a coincidence."
Murmurs rippled through the group. Ragnok slammed a fist on the table, his sharp nails scratching the wood. "Are you accusing one of us, Thornwood?"
"I'm not accusing anyone," Kai said carefully. "But someone within the alliance is feeding information to Voldemort. Until we find out who, none of us are safe."
Firenze's expression darkened. "Centaurs do not deal in human politics or betrayal. Do not look to us for your saboteur."
"And goblins value our independence far too much to consort with that snake-faced abomination," Ragnok added.
"Let's not waste time pointing fingers," Daphne interjected, her voice cutting through the tension. "We need evidence, not accusations."
Kai nodded. "Agreed. I'll take the lead on this. In the meantime, we tighten security. No one moves alone, and all communications are monitored. If the traitor slips, we'll catch them."

A Shadow in the Dark
Late that night, Kai sat alone in the war room, the map of ley line convergence points spread before him. His system buzzed softly, offering a suggestion:
[System Task: Activate Scrying Sight. Use it to trace recent magical signatures for anomalies.]
Kai focused, casting Scrying Sight with a whispered incantation. The room shimmered, and glowing trails of magic appeared, like ghostly echoes of past movements. One trail glowed darker than the rest, snaking out of the room and toward the Forbidden Forest.
His heart raced. "Got you."
---
The Forbidden Pursuit
Kai followed the trail under the cover of night, his wand glowing faintly to light his path. The Forbidden Forest was eerily quiet, the usual sounds of nocturnal creatures absent. It was as if the forest itself was holding its breath.
The trail led to a small clearing, where a figure cloaked in shadow stood, their back to him. Kai's system flared with a warning: [High Threat Detected.]
"Who are you working for?" Kai demanded, stepping into the clearing.
The figure turned, lowering their hood to reveal Seraphine Crowe. Her expression was cold, her wand already in her hand.
"Knew you'd figure it out eventually," she said, her voice dripping with disdain.
"Why?" Kai asked, his wand steady but his heart heavy. "You've fought alongside us. Why betray everything we're fighting for?"
Seraphine's laugh was bitter. "You don't understand, Thornwood. Voldemort's power is inevitable. Aligning with him ensures survival. Resistance is futile."
Kai's jaw tightened. "You're wrong. You've seen what we can do—what we can achieve together. But you've thrown it all away."
Her expression hardened. "And you're too naive to see the bigger picture."
She raised her wand, casting Avada Kedavra in one swift motion. Kai reacted instinctively, activating [Aether Step] to blink out of the spell's path. The green light seared past him, striking a tree and reducing it to ash.
---
A Duel in the Forest
The clearing erupted in chaos as spells flew between them. Kai unleashed a barrage of powerful spells from his system's arsenal.
"Astral Chains!" Golden chains shot from his wand, aiming to bind Seraphine, but she twisted away with a snarl, countering with Diffindo.
"You can't win, Kai," she taunted, circling him like a predator. "You're strong, but you're just one person. Voldemort has an army."
Kai smirked, despite the danger. "And yet, you're scared enough to come here alone."
He conjured a spectral phoenix with Ethereal Flare, sending it streaking toward her. The light illuminated the clearing, forcing her to shield her eyes. Seizing the moment, Kai followed with Oblivion Slash, his wand cutting a glowing arc of energy.
The spell struck her, knocking her to the ground. She groaned, her wand slipping from her grasp.
---
The Final Question
Kai approached cautiously, his wand trained on her as she lay sprawled on the forest floor. "You're done, Seraphine. Tell me everything, and maybe I'll spare you."
She laughed weakly, blood staining her lips. "You think this is over? Voldemort knows your every move. He'll destroy you—slowly, painfully."
Kai clenched his jaw, his wand glowing brighter. "Last chance."
Her eyes burned with defiance. "Go ahead. Kill me. It won't change anything."
Before Kai could decide, a spell struck her from the shadows, and she collapsed lifelessly. Kai whirled around to see Daphne emerging from the trees, her wand still smoking.
"She wasn't going to talk," Daphne said simply, her expression unreadable.
Kai lowered his wand, conflicted but understanding. "You shouldn't have followed me."
"I wasn't about to let you face her alone," Daphne replied. "And now we know—Voldemort has spies in every corner."

The Warning
Back at the castle, the group reconvened. Kai explained what had happened, omitting the part about Daphne's intervention.
"The traitor is dealt with," he said. "But Seraphine's last words were clear: Voldemort knows more than we realized. We have to assume he's watching us, waiting for us to slip."
Harry's fists clenched. "Then we give him nothing to exploit. We take the fight to him."
Hermione frowned. "We need more information before we make a move. If Voldemort has a plan, we need to know what it is."
Kai's system buzzed with a new notification:
[New Quest: Into the Serpent's Den. Infiltrate a Death Eater stronghold to uncover Voldemort's plans. Reward: High-tier spell and system upgrade.]
Kai smiled grimly. "I think I know where to start."
