Arcane Ascension: A Fusion of Powers

Chapter 11: Chapter 2: Diagon Alley and a Chance Meeting

The sun cast a warm glow over Hogwarts as Severus Snape reluctantly stepped through the gates with Aurelius Solen at his side. The Potions Master, dressed in his usual dark robes, glanced down at the boy with an air of disdain. Aurelius, however, walked beside him with quiet composure, his radiant golden eyes scanning his surroundings with a mixture of curiosity and subtle excitement.

"Professor Dumbledore insists that I escort you to Diagon Alley to acquire your school supplies," Snape said coldly, his voice devoid of enthusiasm. "Do try not to embarrass yourself or me while we're there."

Aurelius inclined his head politely. "I will endeavor to meet your expectations, Professor Snape."

Snape's lips curled into the barest hint of a sneer. "See that you do."

---

Diagon Alley was bustling with activity, witches and wizards bustling from shop to shop. The scent of freshly baked cauldron cakes mingled with the earthy aroma of magical herbs, and the occasional pop of spellwork added to the lively atmosphere.

As Snape led Aurelius through the crowded streets, the boy's eyes darted to the shop windows, taking in everything from robes at Madam Malkin's to the wands displayed in Ollivanders.

"Stay close," Snape barked, his dark eyes scanning the crowd for any sign of trouble.

"Yes, Professor," Aurelius replied evenly, his calm demeanor unwavering.

Their first stop was Gringotts, where Snape handled the exchange of Galleons while Aurelius observed the goblins with keen interest. From there, they moved through the various shops, acquiring robes, potion ingredients, and textbooks.

At Flourish and Blotts, Aurelius's gaze lingered on the shelves, his fingers brushing the spines of ancient tomes. Snape's patience was wearing thin as he waited near the counter.

"You'll have plenty of time to read during term," Snape snapped.

"Of course, Professor," Aurelius said, pulling himself away with a faint smile.

---

As they exited the shop, a commotion nearby drew their attention. A small boy with untidy black hair and round glasses was being led through the alley by a large, friendly-looking man with a wild mane of hair and a thick beard.

"That'll be Harry Potter," Snape muttered under his breath, his tone carrying a mixture of disdain and curiosity.

"Harry Potter?" Aurelius asked, his golden eyes narrowing slightly.

"The Boy Who Lived," Snape replied curtly. "A name you'll hear far too often at Hogwarts."

As if on cue, Harry turned and spotted them. Hagrid noticed as well and waved enthusiastically. "Oi, Severus!" he called, his booming voice carrying over the noise of the alley.

Snape stiffened, his expression souring further. Hagrid approached, Harry in tow, and grinned broadly. "Didn't expect ter see yeh here!"

"Hagrid," Snape said tersely, barely masking his annoyance.

Hagrid's eyes shifted to Aurelius, his curiosity evident. "And who's this young'un?"

"This is Aurelius Solen," Snape said, his voice clipped. "A new student."

Harry stepped forward, his green eyes curious. "Hello," he said shyly. "I'm Harry. Harry Potter."

Aurelius studied him for a moment before offering a polite nod. "Aurelius Solen. It's a pleasure to meet you, Harry."

Hagrid chuckled. "Yer gonna be in fer a surprise, Harry. Hogwarts is somethin' else!"

Harry smiled, but his gaze lingered on Aurelius, as if sensing something unusual about him.

Snape cleared his throat sharply. "If we're quite finished with introductions, we have other matters to attend to."

"Don't mind him," Hagrid said with a wink to Aurelius. "Snape's always in a mood."

Aurelius's lips twitched into a faint smile. "I'll keep that in mind."

---

As they continued their shopping, Aurelius found himself reflecting on the encounter. Harry Potter, the boy of legend, seemed unassuming yet carried an air of significance. For a fleeting moment, Aurelius wondered if their paths were destined to intertwine in ways neither could yet comprehend.

By the time they finished their errands and returned to Hogwarts, Aurelius felt a flicker of anticipation. His journey had only just begun, and already, he had encountered a piece of the puzzle that was his new life. What awaited him at Hogwarts, he could only imagine.
