Chapter 7 - Can Modify Everything? Situation Outside!
Chapter 7: Can Modify Everything? Situation Outside!
“Jarvis, how’s the route to Daxi Street Supermarket coming along?”
After allocating his free attribute points and taking a minute or two to get accustomed to the changes, Jiang Cheng pressed the gas pedal and drove his armored vehicle out of the gas station while asking Jarvis.
“Sir, the route has been successfully planned and loaded into the vehicle’s navigation system,” Jarvis’s voice responded.
“Alright, how’s the road condition on this route?”
Jiang Cheng glanced at the navigation system, driving towards the indicated route while inquiring further.
“Sir, most of the roads in Shangbin City are essentially blocked by fleeing vehicles. However, this route isn’t completely blocked. With the performance of your vehicle, it won’t be difficult to force your way through, just like before, although the vehicle might sustain some damage.”
Jarvis explained in a calm and steady tone.
“Damage … now that’s a concern!”
Jiang Cheng frowned. When he was refueling the armored vehicle earlier, he noticed that part of the front was slightly deformed and damaged. Although it wasn’t very noticeable and wouldn’t have much impact, damage was damage.
At that moment, he realized that no matter how powerful the armored vehicle was, no matter how crash-resistant, it was still just a vehicle. If this continued, there would eventually come a day when it would break down.
Thinking of this, he immediately asked the system, “System, if the armored vehicle gets damaged, can it be repaired?”
Ding! “Depending on the extent of the damage, consuming a corresponding amount of points will allow for repairs,” the system promptly responded.
“If it can be repaired, that makes things much easier!”
Jiang Cheng let out a small sigh of relief and then followed up with, “So how many points will it cost to repair the current damage?”
After a brief pause, the system’s voice sounded again, “Based on the current extent and area of damage to the LV1 armored vehicle, it will cost 12 points to repair.”
“12 points? How many points do I have right now?”
Earlier, he had been entirely focused on the rewards, so he hadn’t really paid attention to how many points he had accumulated.
Ding! “You currently have 138 points!”
“138 points … so, by the calculation of earning 1 point per zombie kill, I’ve already run over 138 zombies? Spending 12 points is just a drop in the bucket.”
Jiang Cheng felt a bit surprised, as he hadn’t realized how many points he had accumulated. But he still didn’t have a clear idea of how to use the points.
“System, besides repairing the vehicle, what else can the points be used for?”
Ding! “Consuming the corresponding amount of points allows for the modification of anything!”
The system responded once more.
“Modification of anything?”
Jiang Cheng blinked in disbelief. “System, are you sure it’s anything?”
“Yes, Host. You can modify anything. As long as you have the required points, even a simple iron rod can be modified!”
“No wonder it’s called the Divine Modification System—this is amazing!”
After understanding the system’s functions, Jiang Cheng felt more at ease. Ultimately, the system was incredibly powerful, but it required enough points to utilize its full potential, and points were earned by killing zombies!
In other words, if he wanted to get stronger, killing zombies was his primary goal!
Of course, before that, he needed to find a place to settle down and fill his stomach. Otherwise, dying before he could even get started would be truly frustrating.
Ten minutes later.
Ahead of him, more and more vehicles began blocking the road.
There were cars crashed into guardrails, cars that had hit utility poles, vehicles that had collided with each other, rear-end collisions, overturned cars—every kind of chaos imaginable.
The area was also littered with gnawed corpses and countless zombies wandering around.
Vroom—
In response, Jiang Cheng didn’t slow down the armored vehicle but instead pressed the gas pedal harder, driving straight into the obstacles.
The roaring engine drew the attention of the zombies in the area, who, like hungry wolves, crazily charged towards his armored vehicle, only to be violently struck.
Bang, bang, bang—
As expected, the zombies rushing at him were sent flying by the fully powered armored vehicle, converting them into points that went straight into his account.
The vehicles blocking his path were instantly crushed, their bodies caving in, and within a second, they were turned into scrap metal, either crushed beneath the armored vehicle or pushed aside. This hardly slowed the vehicle down!
Moreover, sitting inside the armored vehicle, Jiang Cheng barely felt anything as he smashed through the cars. After forcefully clearing a path, he quickly sped away, leaving behind the frenzied zombies that were trying to pounce on him.
At his current speed, it would take about three hours to reach Daxi Street Supermarket. However, driving for three hours straight would be incredibly boring and wasteful.
“I wonder what the situation outside is like now!”
With that thought, Jiang Cheng casually turned on the car radio.
However, no matter how much he adjusted the frequency, he couldn’t pick up any signal—only a continuous static sound came from the speakers.
Seeing that he couldn’t learn anything from the car radio, he gave up on that method and instead asked Jarvis, “Jarvis, can you check what’s happening outside right now?”
He had only been in this world for a few hours. Apart from the initial memory infusion that gave him a basic understanding, he knew next to nothing about this world.
Now that the apocalypse had arrived and the zombie crisis had erupted, he was very eager to know whether the governments of the world had any strategies to deal with this.
After all, this world’s Earth was many times larger than the one he knew, with a population of over 200 billion.
To give some perspective, Shangbin City alone was a city over 100 kilometers long and more than 50 kilometers wide, covering an area of over 5,000 square kilometers with a population exceeding 30 million!
In his previous world, both the area and population of such a city would rank it among the top ten largest cities!
And yet, in this world’s Dragon Country, such a city was merely considered third-rate.
So if the zombie crisis were to fully break out, the problems and challenges it would pose would be unimaginably huge!
“Sir, I’ve gathered information from around the world …”
Jarvis worked quickly. Just a few seconds after Jiang Cheng finished speaking, Jarvis used the still-functional mobile network to gather information from around the world, then processed it and summarized the situation for him.
It turned out that this unknown zombie virus had appeared several months ago!
However, given the vast size of this world, its large population, and the immense power of the countries, the governments of various nations made the same decision to prevent public panic.
They concealed the truth! This was why, during the traffic jam earlier, many people believed it was just a new strain of rabies!
As for the rumors on the internet, they weren’t rumors at all! They were the real experiences of people who had witnessed the events with their own eyes!
But all such information was blocked and dismissed as unreliable gossip!
The situation in Shangbin City was simply that the government could no longer contain the spread of the zombie virus, leading to the city’s downfall.
While some cities abroad had also fallen, many other cities and regions remained safe, with the general public largely unaware that the apocalypse had already arrived.
In some ways, this situation was similar to the storyline in Resident Evil, where Raccoon City had fallen, but the outside world dismissed it as a hoax.
After digesting this information, Jiang Cheng exhaled lightly. At least, the situation hadn’t deteriorated to the point where the entire world was lost.
Though, this was only temporary!
But for him, even temporary safety was enough to allow him to catch his breath.
He immediately asked Jarvis another question, “What’s the situation in Shangbin right now? Do the government officials have any plans?”
“Sir, the infection situation in Shangbin City is very severe. The government officials have already begun gradually evacuating from Shangbin City, while the military has not yet taken any action,” Jarvis answered after probing through the network.
“Those bastards, they’re running away pretty damn fast!”
Jiang Cheng cursed under his breath. The fact that government officials were evacuating Shangbin was definitely bad news for him!
Because it meant that the government had already abandoned Shangbin City!
“Jarvis, keep monitoring the external information. Let me know immediately if there’s anything important!”
Jiang Cheng instructed, then glanced at the route displayed on the car’s navigation system and fell silent.
The journey ahead wasn’t short, and though he was driving at a good speed, avoiding the highway meant he had to take many detours.
In fact, he had considered taking the highway, but with the zombie crisis erupting and survivors fleeing everywhere, he could easily imagine the kind of chaos on the highway right now.
If there was a traffic jam there, it would be a dead end. Even he couldn’t easily force his way through, let alone ordinary people.
Following the route Jarvis had planned for him, he was now driving on a regular road, occasionally diverting onto smaller side roads.
