Chapter 15 - Survivors Arrive? Massacre!
Chapter 15: Survivors Arrive? Massacre!
The time it took to modify the nail gun was not as long as expected!
From the moment the system began modifying the nail gun to its completion, it took less than a minute.
During this minute, Jiang Cheng didn’t remain idle; he found a weapon for Liu Yuqing as well.
A very sharp watermelon knife!
What surprised him slightly was that when he handed the watermelon knife to her, Liu Yuqing didn’t hesitate at all and decisively took it, gripping it firmly in her hand.
Of course, Jiang Cheng didn’t expect Liu Yuqing to kill anyone; as long as she could protect herself and show a willingness to fight, that would be enough.
“It seems she’s mentally prepared,” Jiang Cheng murmured to himself as he turned around and picked up the newly modified nail gun.
“This feeling … so familiar!”
The moment he gripped the nail gun, an incredibly familiar sensation surged through him, as if he was born knowing how to use it.
In the next instant, while tightly holding the indirect-firing nail gun, he focused his gaze on a half-empty bottle of mineral water on a shelf two meters away. Without even aiming, he raised his hand and pulled the trigger.
Pfft! Pfft! Pfft!
He pulled the trigger three times in quick succession, and three nails shot out instantly, accurately hitting the mineral water bottle and piercing it!
Liu Yuqing’s expression froze instantly when she witnessed this scene.
“So accurate!”
Jiang Cheng, after putting away the nail gun, glanced at the mineral water bottle that had been pierced by the nails, a slight smile appearing on his face.
Although it was somewhat unbelievable, the result was as he had expected.
He had previously considered the possibility that after learning those comprehensive combat skills, his proficiency with the nail gun might also be included.
And now, holding the nail gun and seeing the pierced mineral water bottle, the answer was clear—his proficiency with the nail gun was indeed included!
Even though he had never used it before, he could handle the nail gun as if he was born to use it, mastering its operation with exceptional accuracy!
Afterward, Jiang Cheng refilled the compressed air in the nail gun and reloaded the three nails he had fired into the magazine while asking Jarvis.
“Jarvis, how long until those people reach the second floor?”
“Four minutes left, sir.”
“Very good!”
Everything was proceeding according to plan. Jiang Cheng nodded and waved at Liu Yuqing, “Let’s go. Those people will be here in about four minutes. Let’s find a place to hide first.”
“Okay!”
Liu Yuqing looked at the young man in front of her, whom she had known for less than half an hour, but an inexplicable sense of security welled up in her heart. It was a strange feeling, but she didn’t think too much about it.
…
In the stairwell on the third floor!
Led by six security guards, a total of twenty-one survivors were gathered there.
“Brother, the noise downstairs seems to have gradually died down?”
“What do you mean ‘seems to have’? It’s already gone, isn’t it?” The security captain rolled his eyes and smacked the speaker on the back of the head.
“So what do we do? That person might already be dead.”
“Doesn’t matter, let’s go down and check it out.”
The security captain adjusted his security cap, his eyes gleaming with determination as he looked at the dozen or so survivors who had huddled together out of fear due to the earlier commotion on the first floor.
“If things go south, use these people as a shield, and we’ll make a run for it!”
“Is … is that okay? If the boss upstairs finds out, won’t he beat us to death?”
“What do you know? Those big guys only took them in to use them as cannon fodder. In a world where food is scarce, what reason would those big guys have to take them in otherwise?”
“Yes, yes … the captain is wise, the big guys are wise.”
“Alright, enough talk, follow me!”
The security captain waved his hand, signaling the others to follow as he led the group toward the second floor.
Even though there were only a few steps from the third floor to the second floor, they were extremely cautious, taking over two minutes to reach the stairwell on the second floor.
“You, open the door!”
The security captain tossed the key to one of the survivors, his gaze not on the second floor but cautiously watching the first-floor stairwell below.
When he saw that the iron gate at the first-floor stairwell remained intact and undamaged, he breathed a sigh of relief and turned his attention back.
Clang—
“You all better stay sharp. The iron gate on the first floor isn’t damaged, so those two might still be alive!”
As the survivor unlocked the gate and slid it open, the security captain tightened his grip on the iron rod in his hand and reminded the others before leading them onto the second floor.
But after taking only a few steps, the security captain glanced at the iron gate leading to the first floor, feeling uneasy. He turned and instructed two survivors, “You two, stay here and guard the iron gate. The rest of you, follow me to the furniture section.”
Given the earlier commotion on the first floor, he didn’t want to return to find the second-floor stairwell surrounded by zombies.
The two men who were selected trembled; guarding the stairwell was as good as a death sentence!
If the zombies from the first floor charged up, they would be the first to die!
But they didn’t dare to refuse, so they obediently walked over and stood guard at the iron gate, their eyes fixed on the first-floor stairwell, not daring to leave.
Seeing this, the security captain nodded in satisfaction and led the others toward the furniture section.
“I’ve worked as a security guard in this supermarket for years, but this is the first time I’ve realized how big this furniture section is.”
As he approached the furniture section, looking at the vast hall filled with wardrobes, beds, tables, and sofas, the security captain frowned slightly.
This would undoubtedly make their search much more difficult.
“You three, go search over there.”
Given the current situation, splitting up would increase the risk, but it would also improve efficiency. He didn’t want to stay here any longer than necessary, as the zombies on the first floor could rush up and tear them to pieces at any moment!
“Yes, sir!”
The three men nodded and headed off in another direction.
However, before they could take more than a few steps, as they passed by a cabinet, a nail gun slowly emerged from a corner.
Pfft, pfft, pfft—
With the sound of three nails firing, the three men were hit in the head by the nail gun and killed instantly.
After taking them out, Jiang Cheng didn’t stop. He swiftly moved out from behind the cabinet, raised the nail gun, and fired a volley at the remaining security guards and their followers, who had their backs turned.
With his current mastery of the nail gun, even a random volley was highly accurate.
Pfft, pfft, pfft—
By the time Jiang Cheng had killed five more of their men with the nail gun, the security captain finally heard the sound of his men falling. He turned around and, upon seeing Jiang Cheng holding the nail gun, flew into a rage.
“Damn it! You were hiding here! Get him, kill him!”
Immediately, the remaining five survivors and six security guards, wielding iron rods, charged at Jiang Cheng.
In response, a cold glint flashed in Jiang Cheng’s eyes.
Pfft, pfft, pfft—
Three more survivors and two security guards were shot in the head by Jiang Cheng’s nail gun and killed on the spot.
“Holy crap …”
“Is that … is that really a nail gun?”
In an instant, five more people were killed, scaring the remaining four security guards and two survivors into hiding, no longer daring to charge at Jiang Cheng.
Click, click, click—
A few seconds later!
Jiang Cheng’s nail gun emitted the sound of an empty magazine, giving them a renewed sense of confidence.
The security captain stepped forward, tightly gripping his iron rod, a vicious grin spreading across his face, “Haha, out of nails, huh? Let’s see what tricks you’ve got left!”
“Everyone, charge! Kill this bastard!”
