Apocalypse: Modifying Everything, Building an Iron Fortress

Chapter 13 - Turning the Tables, Jiang Cheng's Plan!

Chapter 13: Turning the Tables, Jiang Cheng’s Plan!

“What’s going on? Could it be that the people upstairs have noticed us?”

Jiang Cheng felt a trace of doubt, but when he noticed from the corner of his eye that the lights in the second-floor hall were still brightly lit, he suddenly realized.

“The power hasn’t gone out yet, and the surveillance cameras in the supermarket are still operational!”

Realizing this, Jiang Cheng’s heart skipped a beat. “I’m afraid everything I’ve done in the supermarket has been caught on their cameras!”

“But that doesn’t seem right. If that were the case, they wouldn’t have taken so long to come down!”

Thinking it over, Jiang Cheng moved to the side, away from Liu Yuqing, and pressed his Bluetooth earpiece, asking, “Jarvis, can you investigate what’s happening on the fifth floor?”

“Sir, based on the audio recorded from their phones and their conversations, they spotted you through the surveillance cameras and sent people to capture you. However, they still don’t know your exact location.”

Jarvis responded immediately.

“They still don’t know my exact location?”

Confirming his suspicion, Jiang Cheng rubbed his chin as a plan started to form in his mind. To be sure, he asked, “Jarvis, how many people are approaching us? Where are they now? How long until they reach the second floor?”

“Sir, there are twenty-one people in total. They’ve just reached the fourth floor. At their current pace, they will arrive on the second floor in about five minutes.”

Less than a second later, Jarvis’s voice returned with all the information Jiang Cheng needed.

“Five minutes? That’s a bit tight.”

He frowned, thinking for a moment.

“How many people are still on the fifth floor?”

“Sir, there are seven people on the fifth floor.”

Hearing this, Jiang Cheng’s lips curled into a smile. “If I’m not mistaken, those seven people on the fifth floor are the ones Liu Yuqing mentioned.”

After all, they were likely gangsters. Otherwise, how could anyone in this apocalyptic scenario command twenty-one people to work for them?

Having gathered all the information he needed, Jiang Cheng was ready to implement the plan that had formed in his mind.

His plan was simple and could be summed up in four words: “Turn the tables!”

There was only one iron gate on the second floor, and if the zombies decided to swarm up during the night, it wouldn’t hold. So, he might as well deal with these people and take full control of the supermarket!

However, to execute this plan, some preparation was needed.

Without wasting any time, Jiang Cheng gave his orders. “Jarvis, play music on the phones of the zombies near the north entrance on the first floor!”

“Yes, sir!”

Jarvis immediately complied with Jiang Cheng’s command and began to take action.

The first step was to create a disturbance and induce panic!

This would delay the people coming down, giving Jiang Cheng ample time to prepare and take care of the zombies.

Even though Jiang Cheng’s current strength, with four times the power of an ordinary person and his advanced combat skills, made him more than capable of handling the twenty-one people descending the stairs, he knew that making noise during the confrontation could attract the zombies. And that would be a serious problem.

Though he was confident in his abilities, facing over a hundred zombies simultaneously was beyond his capacity.

Therefore, he needed to eliminate the zombie threat first.

After giving his instructions to Jarvis, Jiang Cheng turned to look at Liu Yuqing, who was still huddled in the corner of the bed. Shaking his head, he said, “Stop daydreaming. Those guys upstairs are coming down to capture us. If you don’t want to die, get ready to fight!”

Given the urgent situation and the post-apocalyptic environment, there was no time for hesitation. If she wasn’t mentally prepared, Jiang Cheng wasn’t going to bother with her any longer.

Though she was beautiful and had a great figure—qualities that were rare in such a world—he wasn’t a saint or a savior, and he had no intention of keeping a liability around.

Having a burden would only get him killed in the end.

Liu Yuqing, who had been lost in thought, snapped out of it when she heard his words. She realized what he meant and quickly composed herself.

She had always enjoyed physical activities and participated in every sports event since she was young. She had even taken self-defense classes, so she had some ability to protect herself.

“Don’t worry, I won’t be a burden!”

She quickly adjusted her mood, got off the bed, and stood ready to fight.

Seeing her quick adjustment and resolve, Jiang Cheng nodded in satisfaction and said, “They’ll be here in about ten minutes. Fill your stomach first. After being unconscious for so long, you’ll need your strength.”

“I’m not hungry!”

Liu Yuqing shook her head, not wanting Jiang Cheng to think she was being difficult. But just as she finished speaking, her stomach growled, betraying her, and her face flushed with embarrassment.

“Eat quickly; there won’t be time later.”

Jiang Cheng shrugged and left it at that.

“Okay!”

Blushing from the betrayal of her own stomach, Liu Yuqing lowered her head, grabbed some of the food Jiang Cheng had brought over, and started eating without hesitation.

But before she could eat much, a commotion suddenly erupted from downstairs, making her heart race as she glanced anxiously at Jiang Cheng.

“Don’t worry, just keep eating.”

Jiang Cheng waved his hand dismissively, then turned and asked Jarvis, “Has it started?”

“Yes, sir.”

At that moment, the six security guards and the dozen survivors, who were just about to continue down from the fourth floor, were suddenly stopped in their tracks by the sound of zombies growling and snarling from below.

“What’s going on?”

The security team leader’s face paled with panic.

“Did that guy downstairs stir up the zombies?”

“Can’t be, right? What do we do? Go back?”

“We can’t! If we go back now, the bosses upstairs will blame us.”

Listening to the others speculate, the security team leader swallowed nervously. Though he wanted to turn back immediately, he shook his head, rejecting the idea. After all, the five bosses upstairs weren’t people to mess with!

“No matter what, we need to go down and check it out.”

Despite his words, their descent slowed significantly, and they became even more cautious.
