Chapter 32: End of The Preliminary Round

"Hey, what was that technique you used?" Sakura asked as Naruto walked up to where she was waiting to watch Daniel and Choji's fight.

"Oh, that? It's just a little something Daniel helped me make," he replied, leaning on the steel railing.

"Impressive," Kakashi commented as he appeared behind them. The technique wasn't anything special; it focused on the principles of the Rasengan by concentrating chakra in his palm and shaping it into a sphere. Unlike the Rasengan, this technique was more like a controlled explosion, with the chakra concentrated and compressed until it collapsed, directing the force away from the hand. It was a suitable technique for someone with a lot of chakra. Of course, the version Naruto used on Kiba was a weaker one.

"When did you get here, Kakashi-sensei?" Naruto asked, startled.

"I just arrived," he answered.

"Um, sensei, will Sasuke be okay?" Sakura asked worriedly.

"He'll be fine," Kakashi reassured her.

"Begin!" Hayate's voice grabbed their attention as he started the match between Daniel and Choji.

"This'll be fast," Daniel thought as he stood facing Choji.

"Who cares if he's being taught by the Hokage? You've got this, Choji!" Ino cheered, drawing a sigh from Shikamaru. Choji broke into a sweat as he hesitated to attack.

"In the ninja academy, Daniel seemed to specialize in precision attacks," Choji recalled. "We're both close combat types, though," he thought, gritting his teeth and heading for the attack using his Human Boulder technique. Daniel easily evaded as Choji changed direction, following him. Seeing this, Daniel then stood still, as if indecisive for a moment, with Choji taking this opportunity to attack.

"Yeah, you got this, Choji!" Ino cheered. As it seemed Choji was about to land a hit on Daniel, upon contact, Daniel faded like a mirage, appearing next to him.

"Damn it, I can't decide. Should I end it like the MC from Irregular at Magic High or that palm explosion Beerus gave Goku?" Daniel stood indecisive for a second, reaching out his right hand, flipping it, and snapping his fingers. A large wave of sound was generated, and even the spectators could feel the shock and pain caused by the sound. Choji immediately collapsed from the high sound wave.

"What an interesting little trick," Orochimaru, disguised as a sound shinobi, remarked, looking at Daniel.

"Mohale Daniel..." Gaara noted as he observed.

"What kind of jutsu was that?" Ino covered her ears as she looked at the now-ended match.

The crowd stood in awe of Daniel's last attack. "Daniel wins," Hayate announced, with only a few matches left. Choji was taken away by the medical ninjas.

"That's what being taught by the Hokage will get you," Shikamaru noted, referring to Ino's previous remark.

"That's the Hokage's student," Kurenai remarked.

"Hyuga Hinata vs. Hyuga Neji," Hayate announced, breaking the murmurs going around about Daniel. The rest of the fights proceeded as in the original story until the preliminaries ended.

"Damn, Lee really sustained damage there," Daniel noted after the battle between Gaara and Bushy Brows. Seeing it in real life brought a different feel to it, but at least it was a learning moment for both Guy and Lee. The mood was a little sluggish, but things progressed smoothly regardless.

"As mentioned earlier, your final will be conducted in front of everyone, and each of you will represent your respective land, so make sure to put on a good show. The finals will commence a month from now," Hayate noted. The genin voiced their thoughts again, asking why they should wait such a long time. After going through a series of questions, they finally grasped a little of why they were waiting.

"Now, I would like you to do this one last thing before the finals. Take a paper from the box," he added. The remaining nine genin, as Sasuke was not currently there, formed a line and took out a paper each.

"Huh, there's a number on them. Mine says one," Naruto remarked. The others noticed too and called out their numbers as they were recorded by Ibiki.

"Good, Uchiha will be four. And so I will reveal the match order for the tournament-style finals," Hiruzen announced, causing Shikamaru and Naruto to respond in a rugged manner as they caught on to what this would mean. Ibiki flipped his board, not paying much attention to them, revealing the lineup.

1. Uzumaki Naruto vs 2. Hyuga Neji

3. Gaara vs 4. Sasuke

5. Kankuro vs 6. Mohale Daniel

7. Aburame Shino vs 8. Dosu Kinuta

9. Temari vs 10. Nara Shikamaru

"Remember, during this tournament, you will be assessed based on your performance by me, the Kazekage, and some other special guests. Those deemed skilled enough will become chunin. Yes, even those who lose will still have a chance to become chunin," Hiruzen explained, his voice carrying a tone of encouragement and authority.

"Then is it possible for all of us to become chunin?" Temari asked, her eyes widening with a mix of hope and curiosity.

"Yes, it is possible, but note that the opposite is also true. I wish you all good luck. You are now dismissed," he concluded with a warm smile. The hyped yet anxious bunch went their separate ways, the visitors guided to the quarters where they would be staying. Daniel headed to his place, a determined look on his face as he prepared to acquire a nice spot to open his store.

"Shino will be fighting that sound shinobi. If I remember correctly, won't he get offed by Gaara? *Sigh* Then he'll be seeded and will fight Shikamaru later on," he muttered to himself, shaking his head as he walked back home. Despite the grim thought, he couldn't help but feel a spark of excitement. Seeing Shino vs. Shikamaru, even though it was obvious Shino would win, was something he looked forward to. "I wonder how this one will go," he mused, a small smile playing on his lips.

"Hmm. I've already taught Naruto chakra control, but the seal on him will mess with his chakra a little bit. So I'm guessing Naruto will still meet Jiraiya, but I reckon he'll learn the Rasengan faster," Daniel pondered aloud, now arriving at his home. His mind buzzed with possibilities, a mix of anticipation and determination evident in his eyes.
