Chapter 17: Hooked
This evil god was even more impatient than she had imagined. It didn't waste any time and acted so quickly. It seemed that Qin Rui wouldn't last much longer. Hmph, those who bullied her dad deserved their unfortunate fate.
On the side, Qin Lie furrowed his brows tightly, his aura unstable. Zhouzhou immediately turned her head and looked at him, her expression slightly serious. She took out a piece of talisman and slapped it on his forehead, and only then did Qin Lie relax his brows.
Zhouzhou also breathed a sigh of relief.
It seemed that after capturing the evil god, they would have to retrieve the stolen luck from her dad. Otherwise, he would be affected as well. But there was no need to rush at the moment; they still had to wait for two more days.
Zhouzhou covered her mouth and yawned, rubbed her eyes, then leaned back and fell back onto the bed. She arched her little bottom and moved next to Qin Lie, grabbing onto his clothes corner with her small hand, falling asleep contentedly.
The next day, when Qin Lie woke up, the first thing he saw was a bright yellow talisman paper. He furrowed his brows.
Almost as soon as he opened his eyes, Zhouzhou also woke up. Seeing him like this, she immediately became alert and hurriedly explained, "Dad, this is an Exorcism Talisman, not a Truth-Telling Talisman!"
Dad must not get angry anymore. She hadn't had a chance to earn money yet, so she didn't have any money to buy candy to appease him.
Upon hearing her words, Qin Lie reached out and took the talisman paper down. It instantly dissipated into nothingness. He flicked his fingertip and, seeing Zhouzhou looking nervous, he believed her words and nodded expressionlessly.
Zhouzhou finally breathed a sigh of relief and happily ran over to him, following him like a little tail wherever he went.
Qin Lie glanced at her but didn't pay much attention. After washing up, he left.
He usually had meetings throughout the day, and Zhouzhou didn't disturb him. She obediently waited next door, earning praises from passersby for being well-behaved.
"CEO Qin, when did you have a daughter? I've never heard you mention it before."
Qin Lie continued to sign documents without raising his head. "A few days ago."
"A few days ago?" What did he mean by that? A child couldn't grow up so quickly in just a few days. It was strange.
However, Qin Lie didn't explain further. He walked outside as soon as he finished. Almost immediately after he left, Zhouzhou packed her things and came out, her eyes shining brightly as she ran over and grabbed onto his clothes corner, looking up at him with a smiling face.
Such a clingy little one.
"Let's go, let's eat." Qin Lie withdrew his gaze and said.
Zhouzhou's eyes grew even brighter. Since she had her dad, she had never been hungry again. She ate to her heart's content every day.
Dad was really great!
Things were going smoothly on their side, but Qin Rui wasn't doing so well. Although he had temporarily suppressed the kickback issue, other problems arose. He didn't know what was happening, but Qin Rui had been exceptionally unlucky these past two days, and his negotiations didn't go well either.
He drove the car with a sense of annoyance and frustration, harboring some resentment towards the evil god in his heart. He had spent so much time and effort worshipping it, but in the end, how long did it bring him comfort? It was all in vain.
Growing angrier, he slammed down the accelerator without noticing that the traffic light ahead had turned red.
In the next moment, a large truck approached from the left. Qin Rui's pupils contracted, and he desperately stepped on the brake, but it was too late.
"Bang!" A loud noise resonated, followed by screeching brakes. The drivers nearby couldn't help but crane their necks to look at the scene of the accident. When they saw the severely deformed car, they couldn't help but gasp in horror.
Zhouzhou was eating her meal, and suddenly, she lifted her head buried in the bowl and turned to look in a certain direction.
"What's wrong?" Qin Lie asked.
Zhouzhou put down her chopsticks, took out a jade pendant and talisman paper from her pocket, and jumped off the chair, saying, "The evil god has taken away the last bit of bad luck from the scoundrel."
In other words, there was no longer any reason for it to linger in their home. Now was the best opportunity to lure it out.
Qin Lie quickly understood this as well and followed her in big strides. "Do you need help?"
Zhouzhou thought for a moment and nodded. "Dad, could you please drive me to the location?"
"Alright." Qin Lie didn't ask further questions and walked alongside her.
Zhouzhou went upstairs first and took out the peach wood sword from her bag. Then she changed into her little Taoist robe and solemnly lit incense for her Ancestral Master, saying, "Ancestral Master, I'm going to catch the scoundrel. Let's see how much merit I can accumulate this time."
Getting rid of the evil god and preventing it from harming others would also be considered a good deed, right?
Her master said that as long as it was a good deed, it could accumulate merit. When she restored all the golden light on her Ancestral Master, would her financial difficulties be resolved as well?
Thinking of this, she became even more determined, holding the peach wood sword with determination as she headed towards the destination.
They chose a small forest in the outskirts of the city. It was cold and shaded, and since the evil god was made of wood, belonging to the Wood element, it was its favorite place.
Zhouzhou placed the jade pendant in a specific spot and set up a gathering spirit formation. The surrounding spiritual energy instantly gathered around.
As the sky gradually darkened, Zhouzhou and Qin Lie hid behind the bushes. They wore Breathing Suppression Talismans and stared fixedly in the direction of the jade pendant.
When the last ray of twilight fell on the horizon, a sudden disturbance came from the surroundings, and the temperature dropped instantly.
Zhouzhou's ears twitched, and she became even more alert. She turned to Qin Lie and mouthed, "It's here."
Qin Lie nodded slightly, not making a sound, and turned his head to look at the spot where Zhouzhou had placed the jade pendant.
He couldn't see the evil god with his naked eyes, but he could clearly see the jade pendant floating up. Above it, there was a distorted figure, enjoying the spiritual energy with indulgence. The scene was eerie.
Zhouzhou's eyes lit up. It was the perfect moment!
With the peach wood sword in her hand, she suddenly rushed out with all her might.
The evil god was caught off guard. It was pierced by the peach wood sword before it could digest the last bit of absorbed spiritual energy.
Seeing Zhouzhou, it flashed a look of anger in its eyes, let out a roar, and pounced towards her.
It was furious and revealed its true form, a large and towering figure resembling the statue. Its size had multiplied several times, and when it opened its mouth, it seemed like it could swallow the sky.
Zhouzhou wrinkled her nose in disgust. "It stinks!"
Didn't the evil god brush its teeth? She was going to faint from the smell!
Provoked by her words once again, the evil god roared in anger and attacked even more fiercely.
Perfect timing!
Zhouzhou quickly applied a Breathing Shielding Talisman to herself, showing no fear. She twirled the peach wood sword in a flourish, leaped into the air, and continued to fight against it. In the blink of an eye, several moves had already passed.
The evil god's roar grew weaker, and its body was full of wounds, exuding a gloomy aura. It clumsily dodged Zhouzhou's attacks, clearly revealing signs of defeat.
Knowing that he wasn't a match for Zhouzhou, it made a sudden turn and rushed in the opposite direction.
Zhouzhou turned her head and her pupils contracted. "Dad, be careful!"
