Chapter 64: Birds of a Feather
Chapter 64: Birds of a Feather
Lin Ye charged into Prince Ming’s mansion, sword in hand.
Seeing his aggressive approach, Prince Ming’s guards immediately surrounded him. However, mindful of his status, they quietly advised, “Young Marquis, why be so impulsive? If there’s something to discuss, let’s talk it out.”
“Enough talk!” Lin Ye shouted angrily, twirling his sword, forcing the guards to take two steps back.
“Tell Chu Qi to come out!”
Chu Qi was Prince Ming’s given name!
The guards were inwardly shocked, thinking this young marquis must have a death wish to be so disrespectful.
Unexpectedly, Prince Ming’s steward suddenly appeared behind the guards and bowed to Lin Ye, “Young Marquis, my lord requests your presence.”
Hearing this, the guards exchanged glances but wisely made way.
Lin Ye, his eyes bloodshot, coldly glanced at the steward before striding towards Prince Ming’s quarters.
Prince Ming was drinking.
Seeing Lin Ye, his alcohol-hazed eyes suddenly lit up, and he waved at Lin Ye, “Brother-in-law is here, perfect timing. Join me for a drink!”
The sight of Prince Ming drinking so casually made Lin Ye think of the bloodstains on the bluestone slabs, and he immediately shouted, “Beast! I’ll take your dog life!”
With that, he raised his sword and swung at Prince Ming. However, a guard suddenly appeared from hiding, his sword blocking the blade that nearly fell on Prince Ming’s head.
Prince Ming curled his lips, “What has angered the Young Marquis so? Oh, could it be for Nian Nian’s sake?”
“Beast, you’re not worthy to say her name!” Lin Ye was furious, swinging his sword again, but it was once more blocked by Prince Ming’s guard.
However, the guard’s sword broke, and even his arm was cut by Lin Ye.
If Lin Ye attacked again, the guard might have to give his life to protect the prince.
Unexpectedly, Prince Ming showed no fear at all, not even standing from his seat.
He was half-leaning on the table, his entire demeanor extremely relaxed and casual.
Looking at the enraged Lin Ye, he seemed to be watching a joke, “I’m not worthy to call her name, and you are?”
This single question made Lin Ye’s anger lose its foundation.
He stood there, gripping his sword tightly, “How dare you injure her like that, are you even human!”
“Actually, I should thank the Young Marquis for this,” Prince Ming laughed coldly, finally standing up and slowly walking towards Lin Ye.
The guard, concerned for his safety, quickly stepped forward to block Lin Ye, but Prince Ming pushed him aside.
Lin Ye’s sword was now steadily at Prince Ming’s throat.
Yet, even in this situation, Prince Ming showed no fear. He didn’t even seem to notice the blood-stained sword at his neck.
His eyes were fixed on Lin Ye, full of mockery, “If the Marquis’s household hadn’t sent her to the laundry for three years of ‘experience’, I wouldn’t have enjoyed myself so much today. So, I must thank the Young Marquis.”
With that, he even offered his wine cup to Lin Ye.
Lin Ye was shaking with anger.
He wanted nothing more than to end Prince Ming’s life with one stroke, but at that moment, a powerful force gripped his wrist, forcibly raising his sword-wielding hand away from Prince Ming’s neck.
It was Xiao Heng.
Seeing him, Prince Ming’s excitement grew, “Good, good, good. I didn’t expect even General Xiao to arrive!”
He then turned to the guard, “You may leave, you’re not needed here.” He looked provocatively at Xiao Heng, “With General Xiao here, I’ll be fine.”
The guard withdrew, and Lin Ye’s sword was now in Xiao Heng’s possession.
Lin Ye roared, “Why are you stopping me! Do you know what this beast did to Nian Nian?!”
Xiao Heng didn’t speak.
He indeed hadn’t seen Qiao Nian’s injuries, but he had heard from Lin Yuan that Qiao Nian had returned from the west side of the city.
His eyes immediately filled with killing intent as he looked at Prince Ming, his entire being exuding a cold aura.
Prince Ming thought Xiao Heng must want to cut him into a thousand pieces right now.
But Xiao Heng wouldn’t. He was much calmer and more restrained than Lin Ye. He knew that even though he was currently favored by the emperor, killing a prince would still lead to irreversible consequences.
So, Prince Ming laughed.
He raised his eyebrows smugly at Xiao Heng, even confidently turning his back and casually walking back to his seat. He poured himself another cup of wine, “General Xiao probably doesn’t know, right?”
He drained the cup in one go.
Then, as if savoring the taste, he said to Xiao Heng and Lin Ye, “I have never encountered a woman like her. Such a thick whip striking her body, yet she didn’t make a sound. Even though her entire body was trembling with pain, her face showed no sign of suffering! Do you know how ridiculous she looked, pale-faced and covered in cold sweat, yet trying so hard not to show it? Haha, hahaha…”
Prince Ming burst into laughter, infuriating Lin Ye so much that he wanted to rush forward and beat him to death.
But Xiao Heng held him back firmly.
Prince Ming glanced at Xiao Heng’s veined hand and became even more arrogant.
“You know, I’ve never enjoyed myself so much before. Those other women usually died halfway through, but Qiao Nian, she just couldn’t be beaten to death! Hahaha, do you know, she couldn’t be beaten to death! I was exhausted from beating her, yet she was still breathing! Don’t you think she must be heaven-sent for me? She and I are a perfect match! Hahaha!”
Only someone who couldn’t be beaten to death was worthy of being beaten every day!
“You bastard!”
Lin Ye could no longer contain himself. He kicked Xiao Heng aside and swung a fist at Prince Ming.
Prince Ming’s lip bled from the punch, and anger rose in his heart. But looking at Lin Ye’s state, he found it incredibly amusing, “Don’t be angry, Young Marquis! Don’t you like beating her too? At least I hide her away to beat her, unlike you who does it in public. What, only officials can set fires, but common people can’t light lamps? But Young Marquis, don’t forget, I outrank you.”
These words were like a knife, stabbing deep into Lin Ye’s heart.
Lin Ye was shaking with fury but gritted his teeth and snarled, “How can that be the same? I hit her because she deserved it!”
It was because Qiao Nian spoke disrespectfully first that he hit her!
But Prince Ming?
Prince Ming was a pervert, a beast!
He had taken Qiao Nian to the west side of the city for no reason!
Unexpectedly, Prince Ming’s eyes suddenly lit up, “Exactly! It’s because she deserves to be beaten!”
He stared at Lin Ye, his expression full of satisfaction, “That cold demeanor of hers, that self-righteous look of endurance, all deserves to be beaten! I’ve wanted to take her to the west side for a long time! Hahaha! It seems the Young Marquis and I are birds of a feather!”
