Chapter 4: Relish

The first term ended quickly and my grades was good though my class being competitive as always I came third position.Chrismas came and washed the school tension away; oh how I love Christmas, it's make we reflect on Christ's love for me by coming to world because of mankind and it makes me feel special that's why I got up early to prepare for the first mass,Gillian left earlier because he was serving at mass; seeing him at the altar, hands together makes me so proud of the boy he'd become.I put on my best dress, applied a little make-up and took a last look at mirror, satisfied with my reflection, I went Mom's room to wake her but she was fast asleep, time was 5:45am on her table clock,I was running late and I didn't want to go late to Christmas mass.St.John's Catholic Church was a 30 minutes walk to my house but I walked faster despite wearing heels but I made to church and just then the choir began singing. The mass began and I enjoyed the priest's homily, mass was over and the congregation went to visit baby Jesus in his little shed,it was beautiful I took pictures of it and as i turned to leave I bumped into someone who I never expected would attend St.John and it happens to be Blossom who smiling at me with an opened hand with a gift box on it"I got you a Christmaasked questions and here am I,you look breath taking in that dress,so beautiful"Okay let's get this over with, Blossom is indeed handsome like smashingly handsome but having anything to ldo with anyone is never on my list,so skipping that part I accepted the gift and went home to my room and opened the box and it was a beautiful silver necklace,I kept it back and went to help my Mom in the kitchen. We made jolof rice with salad and chicken, enjoyed it together and went to visit relatives. The day was long and eventful,my aunt was happy to see us and she gave us three bags of rice, ten tubers of yam, groundnut oil and other condiments, she had a pick up car drop it at our house and my Mom was forever grateful, she even bought dress for us and shoes to match,Gillian and I were grinning from ear to ear until it began hurting.Chrismas day indeed wonderful and two days after we were preparing to travel to East, Imo state precisely where my mom's from;we used two days to pack our things and went to Libra park to buy a ticket for the first bus the next day when my mom broke the news to us that we're flying to Imo state, all thanks to my aunt, she already booked the first flight for us and the next day we were headed to Muritala International Airport, let's just say we went in style because her SUV came to pick us up and drop us at the airport. The flight was smooth though I was afraid at first because I was afraid of heights but the air hostess gave me nice red wine that calmed my nerves and made me relax.Few hours later we landed at Imo state, and boarded a taxi to our house. My relatives were anticipating our return,as they all stood outside the house waiting for us as our taxi drove in.I lost count of how many people who hugged me,some a kiss on my cheek, sometimes the hug could be tighter I just had to endure because that's what you get when you visit home for Christmas since when you're a baby "She's all grown up , already ripe for marriage and so beautiful... Gillian has become a fine young man...how time flies"was all what echoed around me but I just shrugged and made myself comfortable,I can believe getting married at this age and all I see in Gillian was only a boy.My cousins were cool and most of them were Lagos kids who didn't even recognize my presence, anytime I came around them but I cared less as always and planned my adventure.
