A Villainess pulled out the Sword instead of the Hero.

Chapter 26

As soon as daylight broke, Morgana took the dagger and found the tavern where Arthur was staying.

Holding the dagger proudly, she showed it to him and greeted him.

 “Mister. Raon. I’m back!”

As soon as he saw the dagger, Raon’s mouth dropped open like he’d seen a ghost.

“No, Miss. Are you sure you want to hire Arthur as your escort?” “Of course!”

‘I have to show him what a good person I am!’

After all, people who are kind in everyday life are the real good guys!

But before Raon could call him. The door to the tavern burst open, and Arthur burst in, his face stern and grim.

She turned to greet him, delighted to see the face she’d been looking for.

He turned to Morgana with a stern face and said,

“You said you were looking for a bodyguard.” “Huh? Yes!”

His tightly closed mouth and cold gaze searched Morgana’s face for a moment.

Then, snapping, he bowed his head and said, “

At your service.” “Arthur!”

Raon exclaimed, rushing from the counter. Morgana was equally surprised.

But Arthur raised his head and gazed at Morgana earnestly, his gaze penetrating.

“In exchange, I want the dagger you won at yesterday’s auction.”

Suddenly, the back of his head felt a lot like the man from yesterday’s auction, the man in number 17.

Raon’s eyes darted between Arthur and Morgana, who stood off to the side, mouth agape.

After a long moment of tapping his foot, Raon turned to her in disbelief.

“The dagger, the young lady bought it?” “Do you know this dagger, Mister Raon?” “Of course! It was rumored to have been auctioned off yesterday for a thousand gold.”

That sounded like a lot of money. He covered his mouth with one hand as he looked at the old dagger in front of him.

“Oho! Hmm… I heard you had a lot of money, so it’s true.”

His mouth twitched with curiosity, but he didn’t say anything else.

Arthur leaned casually toward her and asked, “Please state your terms.”

Morgana couldn’t help but feel a twinge of embarrassment, as she hadn’t expected him to be so proactive.

She wasn’t looking to hire a bodyguard because she needed one, but because she was trying to be nice to him, and her standards were vague.

She nudged him to see where he was going with this.

“You’ll be with me from morning until night, are you sure you’re okay with that?” “Yes. I’m fine with that.” “How about for the rest of your life?” “That’s fine.” “Well, I’m buying a new house and I need to fill it with furniture, I know you’ll need to exert yourself, but are you okay with that?” “Yes.” “I prefer that you wear nice clothes when I’m around. Are you sure you’re okay with that?” “If you have a specific outfit in mind, please let me know.” “A pretty dress, with lots of jewelry and frills!” “…”

Arthur’s blue eyes flickered briefly with conflict.

Raon, who was standing beside her, stared at her with a puzzled expression, wondering if she was serious.

Arthur was well-built, and his well-proportioned muscles would tear a dress if he tore it, but not a prize to be won.

Raon, desperate to protect his mercenaries, tried to talk her out of it.

“Ah, My lady. It’s just that he’s a bit of a fellow, that’s all, and his clothes are a bit flimsy today, which is why he looks so petite!”

But Arthur soon bowed his head again and replied,

“…I don’t know if it’ll work, but I’ll try.”

‘Wow, he’s serious about the dagger.’

Morgana looked down at him in disbelief. The dagger she’d gotten after winning the bid didn’t appear particularly impressive.

It was densely studded with jewels, and might have been worth a fortune in the old days, but it had many incontinence spots, and the edges were raw and shabby.

If it didn’t have the name of a master craftsman on it, it wouldn’t attract much attention.

She wondered why anyone would want to acquire such a dagger.

As she pondered, Raon spoke uneasily from beside her.

“He’s expensive, young lady. I’ve seen them go for as much as 500 gold for a single kill.” “Really? Then I could have just bid on it…”

Last night, at the auction house, I remembered him pulling down the number after only 100 gold.

‘Maybe he didn’t bid because he didn’t have enough money?’

He was indeed a very expensive soldier, even for a mercenary.

Britain was a region that was particularly prone to monster attacks.

Unlike Avalon, there were many foreigners, and the free atmosphere was largely due to the fact that merchants who needed to protect their goods from monsters and bandits hired many mercenaries from outside.

Most of these mercenaries were of unknown origin, but they were often skilled.

These men, along with the merchants who came and went from outside, were constantly mixed into Britain, and the country was naturally open to foreigners.

‘But there’s no mention of Arthur’s struggles in the original book.’

Despite her doubts, Morgana gave Arthur his terms.

“One month, 12 noon to 6 am. I don’t care how great you are, you need to sleep.”

This was generous compensation for the job.

After all, it would fulfill the purpose of hiring him as an escort.

‘As long as I appear friendly, approachable, and not even remotely related to Avalon!’

At her words, Arthur’s gaze briefly met Morgana’s purple eyes.

Whether it was shock or something else, his expression was hard to read.

Arthur was less emotional than I’d expected.

“I see, Miss. Thank you for accepting those terms.”

It was a crisp greeting, unlike yesterday’s callous dismissal.

Raising his bowed upper body, Arthur turned to face her, his face still inscrutable.

“So, what kind of dress should I wear?”

The seriousness in Arthur’s gaze made Morgana think he wasn’t joking.

Morgana’s first stop was a boutique, where she decided to buy Arthur a modest outfit.

The salesperson skillfully took his measurements and said

, “These are ready-to-wear, so we’ll have them made according to your measurements in the near future.”

As he stood there, with nothing on his upper body, he was covered in wounds.

On his back, scars were clearly visible, some from sword wounds, others from bites.

Even the staff seemed surprised to see his tortured body, but he quickly composed himself and finished his work as if nothing mattered.

‘I knew he’d been through a lot, but it’s more than I could have imagined.’

Once properly dressed, the scar was hidden from view as if it had never been there.

Morgana sat on the couch and watched him, crossing her arms in contentment.

The collar came up to his neck, and his form-fitting white top was embroidered and trimmed in gold.

It was such a good suit, it would go with anything he wore.

 “Um, okay, I’ll take this.”

Arthur said bluntly in response to Morgana’s answer.

“I don’t think it’s a dress, Miss.” “That’s a joke. Apparently, your usual outfit is a bit ragged. When you’re with me, you’ll wear this.”

Morgana casually finished her calculations, along with a few outfits for her to wear.

‘This should be enough to make me appear cool and respectable, right?’

In truth, his clothes weren’t that expensive.

Unless it was his uniform, but that was about all a bodyguard could wear, even if it was fancy.

Especially since Arthur hadn’t been knighted yet, he couldn’t wear a knight’s uniform.

But by merely changing from those shabby, poor-quality clothes to something with a better texture, he attracted attention.

‘This is why he’s perfect…’

Morgana glanced at him, hoping to see a hero, but Arthur didn’t seem to care.

After leaving the salon, Morgana went to a furniture store to look through the catalog and order some furniture.

Looking at the brochure carefully, Morgana held it up to him and asked.

“Arthur. Do you want the vanity mirror to be square or round?” “What difference does it make?”

As you might imagine, that didn’t help. I’d make the odd rug or curtain purchase, and Arthur would casually accept it.

One might question the modesty of a hired escort, but he didn’t ask. He simply followed along behind her in silence.

When the main street was crowded, he lifted the sheath of his sword to give Morgana room to walk without bumping into people.

‘Surprisingly, he can do anything.’
