Chapter 13
Morgause would surely object, and Elaine, being the eldest and the least likely to object, would be a good choice.
But first, she must win the favor of Kellive.
The Duke of Faye stops a passing maid and asks her where Morgana has gone.
He wore a smile of glee that contrasted with the angry faces he’d always worn when finding her.
With a sack full of tea leaves in hand, Morgana headed for the south building.
Under normal circumstances, one of the maids would have come running at the sight of her, but the mansion was eerily quiet today.
Grunting, Morgana strained the hand holding the sack.
‘Ah, I suppose when I get settled in Britain, I’ll go see Excalibur.’
While I’m in the novel, I might as well see the famous legendary sword.
It won’t be easy to see it after the male lead has taken it out.
As the south building approached, the outskirts of the garden came into view. The servants were scattered about, coming and going.
For some reason, everyone seemed to be running around in a frenzy.
“What, what did Morgause throw again?”As Morgana eased her back against the wall of the south building, the sound of horse hooves reached her ears.
In the distance, he could see the stable keeper running across the garden.
‘Are we getting any visitors today?’
I don’t know when the Duke of Fay would have given me a schedule.
In all the time Morgana has been at the Duke’s residence, he has never had a visitor.
I swear, Fay must have no friends because he’s so unfriendly to humans.
His demeanor was surly. She shook her head at the reasoned judgment and furtively fixed the heavy sack of herbs.
I thought I heard Duke Fay’s voice in the distance.
“Morgana, Morgana, where are you!”Whoa, what a surprise.
Even tigers come when I tell them to, I guess nobles are supposed to be mean.
How could he appear like a ghost when I’m just cursing?
Morgana stood up from her seat, clutching the sack in her arms.
Then she caught sight of a figure crossing the garden.
He had black hair, but she could barely make out the color of his eyes. Slim, well-proportioned shoulders, taller than the trees that came up to his chest.
At first glance, he gives a cold impression, but his smile makes him seem friendly.
Gold thread embroidery on a black top that reached his neck. A long, open coat draped over it.
The dignity of the demeanor that stood out from the rest.
‘So a man can look like that.’
It was as if a noble son of a good family had come to see the Duke of Fay.
‘He looks a bit like a dark villain…’
I’d have to see the eye color to be sure.
Morgana cautiously peeked her head out from the side of the building.
In the original story, the Duke of Fay and Kellive didn’t get along with each other.
Although I don’t think he’d be visiting the mansion like this, you never know.
The butler bowed to the man who greeted him, and the man nodded slightly.
Even his manner seemed to exude the demeanor of a well-educated man.
‘I see. I’m supposed to act like that if I’m going to be the heroine’s maid.’
Morgana scanned his profile with squinting eyes.
‘Oh, don’t move, I can’t see your eyes!’
Clutching the tea leaves, Morgana adjusted herself, trying to find the best angle.
Sensing her movements, the man turned his head. For a moment, her gaze locked with his golden eyes.
Ugh
. Before she could catch her breath, a hand grabbed her shoulder from behind.
Shove— “Argh!” “Shh, shh!”A grotesque scream escaped between her teeth, and the Duke of Fay raised his index finger and quickly brought it to his lips.
Leaning in close, he was covered in sweat from all the running he’d done.
He gasped for breath and said,
“Quick, return to your room. What the hell were you doing out here!” “No, I was preparing tea leaves…” “Oh, that can wait, that is not important now…”Maybe he was afraid of Morgana being discovered as an illegitimate child.
It was understandable that he’d come running out of the door, since he had guests. But she had things to check on as well.
Morgana pushed her way through the back door of the south building and asked the Duke of Fay, who was pushing her back.
“Who’s visiting now?” “That’s none of your business!” “No, just tell me this, and I’ll get back to my room faster than anyone else.”As she struggled to her feet, the Duke of Fay stammered in confusion.
“Just there, w-where was it? It’s Confucius in the countryside. That’s it, go in!”Apparently, she’d gotten it wrong.
Sure enough. After all, Kellive wasn’t the only one with black hair and golden eyes.
Every novel she’d ever read had humans with similar features.
A novel shouldn’t be like this.
Authors should be considerate of the people who might possess their novels in the future and include illustrations.
It’s not just about the main hero and heroine!
‘But Kellive isn’t even in the Arthurian legend…’
Morgana wiped her lips in disappointment and strode to the back of the mansion.
Seeing Morgana, Duke Fay dabbed the sweat from his brow with a handkerchief and appeared at the front door, smiling as always.
.
.
.
“You’ve come, so suddenly.”At his cheerful remark, Kellive’s gaze swept over his face for a moment.
“Did you have a prior appointment, Duke?”The Duke of Fay’s mind scrambled to figure out the intent of Kellive’s question.
‘
Did he see me talking to Morgana?’
That couldn’t be. Even he, who had lived in the manor his entire life, had been searching the entire manor for Morgana.
There was no way an outsider would recognize her.
From the main entrance, it’s fairly hidden in a corner, so it’s not noticeable unless you pay attention.
On another occasion.
She was so poorly dressed that she would be indistinguishable from a maid. No one would think she was an illegitimate child.
The servants have long since been thoroughly screened.
Outsiders rarely came to the Fay household, so it was unlikely that anyone knew of Morgana’s existence.
The Duke of Fay snapped his fingers firmly and answered,
“Of course not. Even if I had an appointment, I wouldn’t be so quick to dismiss your visit.” “You’ve grown more eloquent since I last saw you.”(Kellive)
“A man is never just one thing.”There was no need to stoop so low already.
As long as the House had power, Kellive was someone to be concerned about. The fact that he’d come here makes it clear.
A man who knew that the Duke of Fay’s power was no longer what it once was, but who had stood idly by and refused to help, had come to him in person.
At least the odds were in Fay’s favor.
‘Those who need it, often end up hanging themselves.’
Craning his neck stiffly, he coughed and stepped into the lobby of the mansion.
But for some reason, Kellive paused in the doorway.
‘What is it?’
Wait, had he seen Morgana?
Before Duke Fay could stop thinking.
A flash of familiar soft brown hair caught his attention in the distance behind him.
A loud, raucous voice rang out, contrary to the sweet-looking hair color.
“This is why I don’t want to travel in a carriage. How can something as impractical as a horse carry people?” “I don’t think it would be any more efficient to have a warhorse drive the carriage.” “Wouldn’t its tail be prickly?”Gawain’s dissatisfied voice drifted in without pause.
Why did you come alone?
‘So you were waiting for Sir Gawain.’
The Duke of Fay shrugged it off and resumed his pace toward the reception room.
“The succession ceremony is just around the corner. What a great honor you’ve achieved.”Hmph.
With the Duke of Fay’s words, the maid carefully placed a luxurious teapot on the table.
The tea leaves in the teapot had an unfamiliar aroma to them, more so than the tea usually served to guests in noble houses.
There was no mistaking the fact that this tea, so proudly served, was the tea that had brought him to this table, the tea that had made Avalon so tumultuous these days.
Kellive glanced at the Duke of Fay across from him.
Leaning back against the couch’s seat, he examined the tea.
“Is this the most talked about tea these days?”asked Kellive.
“Ah, have you heard?”The Duke of Fay’s mouth twitched.
It was as if he had been waiting for the right moment to bring up the subject.
Soon, the unsolicited explanation came out of Duke Fay’s mouth.
“This tea is meant to relieve fatigue and relieve daily headaches. I knew the succession ceremony would take its toll on you, so I’ve ordered it to be brought to you in advance.” “Interesting. It doesn’t seem like an idea the Duke would have thought of after all these years.”The Duke of Fay let out a small cough at the comment.
