Chapter 118: Chapter 118
In front of a cafe sipping on a morning coffee, Leonardo looked at the woman across from him. She had short brown hair and a slightly round face as her dark eyes looked at the cars going by. For the woman across from him was Vala, the sister of Faora. Faora who is crushing hard on Zod and in the last few weeks apparently dating him.
"So, no luck finding that portal?" Vala asked.
"Nope. I had checked out a few leds but they were either fakes or already been moved." Leonardo answered. "I think I have narrowed down the area, but it will take some time to explore and locate it."
"Many of us are beginning to become anxious. We don't belong here and lately something strange has been happening. A few engineers have been tinkering with something while Zod is beginning to crack. His obsession with gaining abilities is growing and he seems to be getting more and more angry when the group has different ideas from him." Vala reported.
"Even if it was a really long shot, I was hoping he wouldn't end up like the original." Leonardo sighed when he said this.
It was true he did hope to change Zod's outcome, but he knew it was a long shot by far. If he could he would like to change the outcome but he wouldn't directly sit on someone to make them change. It was sort of like when Lana stomped around, he would fight and bicker with her, but he would allow her to live her life the ways she wants. He would just try to open up another road for them into what he hopes to be a better ending.
"Zod has always been ambitious. It's why he was promoted to General on Krypton fairly quickly, but he also had a lot of love in his heart. Well used to have a bunch for Krypton and his subordinates. Now it is hard to see him reaching into the abyss for power thinking it's the only way to protect us from humans."
Vala just let out a sigh as if a giant rock sat upon her shoulders. While she agreed that it is dangerous for them to be on this planet without abilities. Since the humans have shown to be hostile to each other she was a bit afraid to see their reaction to a foreign race. However, she was a bit more afraid of what Zod would do once they have abilities.
"Hopefully, he can remain in check and everyone can be alright until I can find that portal." Leonardo replied. "It sounds terrible, but Earth isn't ready and their first meeting with a bad apple won't do us much good. A war would break out and humans who are afraid and have big boy toys. Well, they don't tend to react well and are willing to wipe themselves out if it means bringing others down."
"One last thing. I don't know if it is true yet or not, but a few of our members have gone missing." Vala said as she got up.
"I will have Kal look into it." Leonardo said.
"Thank you. You bring the House of El well, giving and showing hope." Vala smiled as she walked away.
Leonardo just blinked at this before he too left with his coffee.
--
"Alright, I will begin checking it out."
Closing his phone, Clark leaned back in his chair as he looked up at the ceiling. He rubbed his forehead as if trying to message his head hoping it wasn't a big incident. Well he hopes it's not an accident at all and the ones that might be missing just lost contact for a short while.
"Everything alright?" Lois asked.
"Hopefully. Leonardo just gave me information that some people we know might be missing." Clark vaguely answered. "He hopes I can help him search since his hands are filled with more important matters currently."
"Is it newsworthy?" Lois asked.
"Which one of the missing people or Leo matters?" Clark asked, a bit irritated.
"Hey, don't bite my head off." Lois angrily said back.
"I don't know about the missing people, but Leonardo is trying to track down something secretive and important." Clark simply said.
While he felt bad lying to Lois about what Leonardo was tracking down could potentially make him leave her and this planet forever. He felt scared to let her in or tell her about himself. Since his life isn't going to be normal and Lana who felt like telling took a peek and ran for the hills.
The last he heard, Lana was currently dating a young firefighter. Which he could smile about since he had moved on and like Leonardo said long ago. Just because she was his first love doesn't mean she was the right one for him. Instead, despite their bickering and their rocky start, Clark finally began to realize and began to accept he loved Lois. Now it was just he was unsure how to proceed or if she would accept him.
"Oh, now you got me curious." Lois' eyes began to shine. "Is it some important intelligence, some weapon Lex built or something?"
"Not as far as I can think of." Clark replied. "Anyways, I got to get moving on finding them."
"Well good luck. I am going to go see what this guy says is world shattering and front page worthy." Lois said after a moment of thinking.
"Be careful."
"Don't worry, Smallville. I can take care of myself." Lois smiled.
--
Inside a makeshift laboratory where cables and various electronic systems were scattered all over. That wasn't what captured Lois' focus, instead it was the women trapped and the one chopped to pieces. The severed arm hanging from a meat hook terrified her greatly.
Behind her, a man with a disfigured head with square scars lining most of his head where hair should be stood. In his hands was a gun as he forced her forward into this laboratory. While Lois was complaining and blaming Clark for jinxing her.
It was supposed to be a simple meeting, but who knew it would be a mad man who believed aliens were preparing to invade the planet. The proof was a woman sealed within bags and one who appeared to be chopped to pieces.
"Help me." The woman cried out.
"This is the proof you wanted. These aliens want to invade." The man said excitedly. "Now you are going to write and expose them so Earth can prepare."
"Mr. Chisholm, isn't it a bit much. Why don't you let the woman go." Lois said a bit weakly.
"Woman? No, no, no, she is an alien. She was part of them that did this to me." Bernard Chisholm pointed to his head. "I died of a heart attack and they brought me back to life."
"Then shouldn't you be thanking them?" Lois tried to reason.
"No, they did something to me. Now I can't stop thinking and gain some peace!" Bernard shouted angrily.
Lois cried bitter tears about her luck and the situation she found herself in.
--
By the time Clark arrived at the Laboratory, since most of the day he ran into one road block after another. Mainly due to Zod's interference, by the time he rushed in, Zod who somehow beat him here was laying on the ground after being shot.
Not far away he saw Bernard with a mask and blood on his apron as he held a saw in one hand.
"So the blur is one of them." Bernard growled.
Then he revved his saw as he raised it. He accidently chopped into one of the many loose and scattered electric cables. Thus as the power in the room fluctuated, the man's body shook violently before he fell to the ground.
Upon seeing this, Clark felt terrible but began to rush to Zod's side. Upon seeing Zod ready to pass to the otherside. Even though he knew Leonardo was going to chew him out, Clark, who knew from Leonardo that his blood has a powerful healing effect, dropped a droplet into the gunshot wound of Zod.
