Chapter 44: Double

-Akiza's POV-

Watching children be yeeted off a cliff should not have amused Akiza as much as it did. Though Akiza was herself and highly enjoyed watching it go down, especially when the blonde boy got yeeted, an experience shared by the brats and the Dowager. "~Oh oh, there she goes!~" Watching Ruby be flung over the cliff nearly made her react and catch her, but she stopped herself and let it happen. Akiza was protective of those she saw as hers, but she didn't coddle them. Leo and Luna ended up in danger multiple times during the war with the Earthbound Immortals, but Akiza, as well as the rest of the boys, let them handle whatever they could deal with, and only stepped in if it looked like they were being overwhelmed or cheated.

Leo and Luna were kids yes, but they were also Signers. To not treat them as such would not only be disrespectful, but weaken them, and that couldn't happen. They would help them through their ordeals afterwards, preferably through some pampering and other helpful ways, but only after.

She knew Ruby could handle this so she let it happen. She would let the Little Rose grow, let her experience life, and only intervene if it looked like she was close to death. Tough love was tough for a reason. (Though I doubt anything like that will happen with her Sister nearby.) And wasn't that an interesting development?

Akiza knew of the girl, she found her quite attractive after all, but meeting her was something else. She still ticked a lot of her boxes, but it was the jealousy she felt from her that made Akiza refrain from flirting with the girl. The first bout of it was about their figures, which was understandable since Akiza was hot as sin and she knew it, but it passed quickly. The second and more recurring bouts of jealousy came from how she interacted with Ruby.

That had caught her off guard and required her to see where it was coming from. So she goaded the blonde a bit, pampered Ruby a reasonable amount and brushed against the blonde's surface thoughts when she felt the jealousy rise up. After an hour of doing so she got enough of a picture to understand where she was coming from.

When she did she had to stop herself from hugging both girls close. Akiza was familiar with having a bad family dynamic, the boys were pretty much all orphans, the twins' parents were neglectful, and her donors were... Eh. She respected Yang for raising Ruby when their Father couldn't, and sort of appreciated their Uncle, even though he only cropped up a few times in Yang's thoughts, but Yang did have her respect... So she'd needle the blonde a little less, and maybe see about becoming friends. It would take some work but it could be done, for Ruby's sake if anything. (And if something more comes from this then good. If not then oh well.) Akiza liked a romp in the sheets with pretty women, but wasn't led by her non existent dick by them.

"And now we observe." That brought her out of her thoughts, eyes turning towards Ozpin as he motioned for Glynda to do something.

Said something was her using her Semblance to bring out drones that began showing feeds of all the children in the forest. Akiza was impressed that they had the whole thing monitored, but curbed that feeling when she saw the challenging look the blonde sexpot was giving her. Seeing that she innocently smiled and reached out towards a tree in the forest, uprooting it and sending it crashing towards a Beowolf that just so happened to be near Ruby's initial landing area. (Whoops.~)

Seeing that made the blonde woman pause, look between the feed and her smug smirk a few times, then huff before turning back to the other feed. Akiza just kept smirking at her while Ozpin let out a sigh. "~Now that is just unfortunate.~" That made her blink before looking back to the feeds...

To see the white haired brat being Ruby's Partner. Akiza's brow twitched. (So help me Crimson Dragon if that brat hurts Ruby's feelings she's going through the wall.) Akiza knew the girl was a bit stressed and was undoubtedly dealing with 1% type issues, but she cared about Ruby more then she did a girl she had a horrible first impression of.

"~Maybe she'll have a better showing today? She did manage to sleep off yesterday's events after all.~" Akiza wanted to agree with Marjoram, but for now she would just watch and observe.

"Akiza." She hummed and looked towards Ozpin, pausing for a moment as she saw the man frown. "Your range encompasses towards Ruins in the Emerald Forest, yes?" She nodded, and took quite a bit of joy in the sour expression on Glynda's face as she did. "Then I may have to trouble you into keeping an eye on the Arc and Nikos pair." She blinked.

She recognized the 'Nikos' name from her initial searching yesterday, so she had an idea on who he was talking about there, but Arc? She frowned for a second...- "~The blonde charlatan.~" Then kept frowning when she got the answer. She didn't exactly dislike the boy, he was an awkward teenager, big whoop, it was just the initial annoyance he caused by finding her attractive. That had already passed.

Now that she knew who she was looking for she checked the feed Ozpin was looking at, saw the blonde and the spartan he was Partnered with, then did a quick check on where they should be. Said quick check was her pulling at a bunch of trees near some active minds, which didn't detect Grimm unfortunately, until she saw one on the feed move in response. When she figured out where they were she nodded. "Got it." Ozpin gave her a small smile of thanks before looking back to the feeds... While Glynda gave her a nod of grudging respect? (Huh. Even after blatantly showing that I'm better she's still prioritizing work over her ego... Good.) If the trend kept up then she would actually start respecting the woman.

"I still say we shouldn't have allowed that boy in." Hmm, Glynda knew something? Well she would've had too given the way she was scowling at the feed of the blonde and the red haired spartan. "Honestly, allowing someone with false transcripts to attempt Initiation?" Akiza's eyes widened and she snapped her head towards Ozpin, demanding an explanation while some of her Spirits made noises of shock and confusion.

The man himself just shrugged and took a sip of his coffee, like this was normal. "Transcripts do not perfectly translate to skill or potential. Or do you think we should prevent those with the skills but no formal education like Ms. Valkyrie or Mr. Lie-Ren from applying as well?" She blinked and looked towards the feed he motioned at, seeing a cute orange haired girl with a massive war hammer beating the shit out of Grimm while laughing, and a black haired boy with a pink stripe in his hair smoothly moving around and stabbing whatever she missed. Akiza was smart enough to get the idea that they probably didn't go to a preparatory academy or something like that, yet were still allowed to attend.

"That is not what I am saying and you know it Headmaster." Glynda's response brought her attention back to the irate woman, though she did keep an eye on Ruby and the Arc/Nikos pair. "That boy not only had the audacity to use false transcripts despite the aforementioned policy, but he did so with an Un-Awakened Aura! There's stupidity and then there's this!" Damn...

Well now she had to say something. "... I was not expecting to say this so soon but I agree with Glynda." The blonde woman paused for a moment, taking in what she said and what it meant, but then gestured at Akiza in a 'you see!' way, making the old wizard sigh. "The boy's a greenhorn trying to stand with professionals." Then she frowned when she realized something important. "And had he been paired with literally anyone but the Mistral Champion then he, and potentially his Partner, could've ended up dead before Initiation ended. It's just his luck that Pyrrha Awakened his Aura instead of leaving him to die." Had he been paired with Ruby then Akiza might've had to make the kid 'disappear.' Mental rewiring would most likely be the way to go, if he didn't die in the forest beforehand that was.

Glynda did another 'you see!' motion, gave Akiza a quick nod of appreciation, then turned back to a frowning Ozpin. "While that latter point isn't one I would have made, Ms. Rhodonite is correct. Mr. Arc is obviously under qualified for Beacon and should be removed from the premises should he pass Initiation."

Under their gazes Ozpin sighed again, pinching the bridge of his nose as he did. Akiza could feel a myriad of emotions coming from the man, mainly contemplation and a few minor emotions, but he eventually shook his head and looked at them. "I hear and understand your concerns, and while I again do understand where they are coming from, I want to keep Mr. Arc here." Both women frowned at that but he kept going. "To do so I'll give the boy an ultimatum. His grades will need to be at a B- for the end of the first and second semester and he will be required to reach the top 15 in combat for his year by the end of the second. Is this acceptable?"

Akiza and Glynda kept frowning, but they also shared a look. Even though she and Goodwitch weren't exactly friends yet they could still work together to agree or disagree on something like this. Akiza didn't even need to create a telepathic connection with her colleague to for them to do it either.

So after a few moments they shared a nod and Glynda responded. "This is acceptable. But I WILL be watching Mr. Arc and ensuring he tries to fulfill those quotas. Should he not then I will personally see him expelled. Is that clear Headmaster?" Glynda finished that by glaring at the man, riding crop slapping against her open palm. Seeing Goodwitch like that made Akiza lick her lips. Strong women were always a good thing in her opinion.

Her minor lapse in self control was missed though and Ozpin settled for nodding. "Very well. But I believe he may just surprise you." Cryptic...

Akiza didn't like cryptic... But she would let it slide for now. It was his school so he was allowed to make mistakes. (Though if he gives me a reason to doubt him then I'm going to start digging.) Akiza knew his biggest secrets, and had a new but working partnership with him, but she wasn't going to let another Goodwin try to play puppet master with kids.

Hopefully Ozpin proved to be better then him.

For his own sake if nothing else.

-Glynda's POV-

While she watched over her potential students with her Headmaster and 'Assistant professor', Glynda wondered if she'd judged said assistant too early. She was reasonable enough to understand their first meeting went... Poorly. Her attitude towards the red haired woman was less then exemplary in that instance, and was still somewhat confrontational towards her, but at this point in time she couldn't help it.

The woman was capable of using what looked like her Semblance, yet was better at it then her!

She was being given a position Glynda had to work for a few years to get and then move up from!

The other reasons she had to dislike the woman were inconsequential after the discussion she and Ozpin had with the woman's Spirit of a Mother, so she let those be, but the main two were still things Glynda was caught up on. (I understand the reasoning, I truly do, but that does not mean I have to like it.) And she didn't. She could work with the woman, but as of now she was still somewhat envious of her just obtaining what she worked on for years and being better at something so intrinsic to who she was as a person.

Still... The woman, as snippy as she was, wasn't trying to sabotage or belittle their partnership, so she would continue to extend the same courtesy. (Is that...) Glynda had to take a moment to wonder just how two fresh Initiates managed to stumble into the territory of an old Deathstalker. They'd known it was there but the Grimm was hidden in a cave. Anyone with common sense should've realized that entering an unknown cave in Grimm territory wasn't a good idea without a proper 4-man squad.

"Huh." Her eyes drifted towards Ms. Rhodonite, her coworker looking at the same screen she was. "Should I handle that or let it be?" The question was aimed at both of them, yet Glynda couldn't immediately respond due to the implication of her range. She had heard and seen it before when Ozpin had asked her if she covered enough of the Emerald Forest, as well as when she uprooted a tree within said forest to kill a Grimm approaching Ms. Rose, but it was something else to hear the casual confidence from her to deal with something more then a kilometer away.

While she dealt with another bout of jealousy the Headmaster answered her question. "No. Not yet atleast. Should it appear as if they are about to be maimed or grievously injured then you may act."

Akiza nodded, but Glynda could see her eyes narrowing at him for a moment. It wasn't long, and Ozpin hadn't been looking at her to see it, but Glynda did. (She's distrustful of the Headmaster? Or is it something else?) While her Mother hadn't told them everything about Akiza, she had still given them a good picture on who she was and her circumstances. The latter part was the main reason Glynda was setting aside some of her grievances with the woman. Had someone talked to her the way she had spoken to Ms. Rhodonite and Ms. Rose then she would most likely act the same way.

Speaking of Ms. Rose. "I... I don't know if I want to ground her for life or be proud of her." Well if those weren't the words of a parent then she didn't know what were.

Still, Glynda could understand the sentiment. "Mounting a Nevermore of that size is something to be proud of." The red haired woman looked at her and for a moment Glynda saw her lips twitch upwards. It was just unfortunate that she wasn't done. "It is also highly reckless and could lead to grievous or fatal injuries if they fell from that height." Which was true.

Her assistant sighed, and in a move that surprised her, nodded along. Most likely seeing the surprise Ms. Rhodonite huffed and looked back to the feed. "Just because the Little Rose is checking all of my 'protect at all cost' boxes doesn't mean I'm ignorant to her doing... Questionable, shit. I'm biased not blind." That was... Huh.

Glynda didn't exactly know what to say to that. "Just like her Mother." And there was Ozpin.

Still, his response garnered Ms. Rhodonite's attention. And once again, instead of doing something rude or starting a conflict, the woman looked curious. "I haven't had much time to learn more about the woman," She had met Ms. Rose two days ago, of course she hadn't. "But you have stories?"

The Headmaster nodded, a fond but tired look in his eyes as he did. Glynda knew why that look was there, the man still felt guilty at the loss of Mrs. Rose, even if it hadn't been his fault.

From there the two began talking of Mrs. Rose, Ozpin once again being nostalgic of the past, while Ms. Rhodonite was curious of just who Mrs. Rose had been. Seeing that made Glynda once again wonder if she had judged the red haired woman too early. (Well, attempting to start over isn't a bad thing.) Glynda could see herself being if not friends, then proper acquaintances with Ms. Rhodonite.

With that thought she returned to watching over her prospective students, thinking things over as she did.

~After Ruby beheads the Nevermore~

"FUCK YEAH! THAT'S MY GIRL!" Watching Ms. Rhodonite cheer at Ms. Rose quite theatrically beheading the Nevermore, she once again thought of Ms. Rhodonite as a parent. This time a quite proud one given the fact she had started recording the battle and how loud she was being...

And was she seeing things or were there roses growing out of the ground around her?

"Akizaaaaaaa!" Ozpin let out a small chuckle at the embarrassed squeal, while Glynda herself felt her lips twitch.

It might've been unprofessional but it was also amusing and quite cute.

-Akiza's POV-

The teams were being assigned but Akiza tuned them out, thoughts going back to what she'd seen during Initiation. She'd expected the four girls she'd seen to become a team, so she wasn't surprised when it happened. No she was more surprised at the blonde boy that either was dumb as a bag of bricks or an idiot savant. She questioned Ozpin's decision to let him stay, but looking at the team that gathered around him she couldn't help but wonder if that was meant to happen.

Akiza was genre savvy enough to recognize a potential deuteragonist when she saw one. It was the basic 'zero to hero' trope she'd seen before and could understand. It made it more obvious considering the kid was essentially a genderbent Jeanne D'Arc expy who just so happened to be paired with the girl based on Achilles. "~But didn't Auntie have to tell you about that part?~" She ignored the brat, Illiyana didn't know what she was talking about. "~HUUUH?!~" Ignored.

She could sort of see what Ozpin was looking for when the boy took command and started giving his team orders. They were basic orders, but the fact that a country bumpkin who got lucky managed to pull off giving acceptable orders in that situation was something to look out for. (Crow would probably like the kid.) The rest of the boys probably would too, but Crow was a fan of going from nothing to something considering he and the boys did it.

It didn't mean that she fully agreed with it, but she understood it.

Aside from that whole thing she managed to get an amazing video of Ruby and her team dealing with the Nevermore! Oh she so was going to rub it in the boys' faces! (Try to 'I walked out of a volcano unharmed' THIS you smug fuck!) She was quite happy about the footage she captured, even if it made her lose some control and create some roses on the cliff side out of pride for her Little Rose.

"~She has yet to call you Mother and you're already acting like one. How amusing.~" Akiza blushed at the Dowager's words but didn't deny it. She'd just seen Ruby decapitate a massive fuck off Nevermore in a move that was straight cinematic. Why wouldn't she be proud? "~Perhaps the fact you have only known the girl for a manner of a day and some hours would answer that question? You have also yet to truly cement yourself as a Mother figure in her mind.~" She clicked her tongue at that.

It was annoying that she couldn't disagree with the Dowagers words, but she could work on it. "~Oh I can't wait for the day that happens, you two are adorable little beans.~"

Akiza mentally stuttered while some of the other Spirits within her laughed. (~WHAT DO YOU MEAN 'ADORABLE LITTLE BEANS.'~) Marjoram just tittered within her at that. (~MARJORAM? MARJORAM?!~) All she got for her troubles were more tittering laughs.

She was about to go in there and shake the answers from her friend but realized something important was happening. "...- Xiao-Long. Together you will be named Team RWBY, led by, Ruby Rose." Akiza temporarily dropped the issue and quickly started taking pictures of her Little Rose and her team.

She mentally debated cheering again but decided against it after realizing how embarrassing that would be for her Little Rose. Her earlier reaction was understandable, but this one wouldn't be. (I'll just need to wait for or create situations where its appropriate to cheer for her.) Her mind immediately thought of Combat Class and she mentally smiled. (I'll need to make a plan for that but it'll do.) She felt the bouquet start reacting to her thoughts, but she just soothed them and let them calm down.

For now she'd let her Little Rose bask in her joy and go pamper her later.

~Some time later~

"You know, I don't think we've actually talked yet." Akiza and Glynda were in the blonde's classroom, working on a schedule where they could both work on now that they had their first year students confirmed. They'd only have today and tomorrow to work on them since the freshmen would be given a day to set up their dorms and explore the campus before classes began the next day, leaving them a bit short on time. That led to the two of them being alone in the blonde's classroom, going over or trying to create lesson plans.

Glynda paused, the blonde peering at her in response. "No, I don't believe we have. Unless you wish to count our initial meeting and the sniping we've done at each other earlier today."

Akiza snorted at that admittance. "Despite how tempted I am to say yes I'd also rather not." Which was true. She was going to be here for up to a year, she didn't want to deal with the headache of working with someone that hated her or she hated in return. Their relationship didn't reach that kind of level, but if it was left to fester then it possibly could, so she wanted to nip it in the bud now instead of later.

"Then no we have not." The blonde woman set down the papers she was holding and looked at Akiza. "Do you intend for us to have one now?"

She set down her own papers, copies of the schedules for all the different year students. "We have a good hour before the faculty meeting so yes, I do." And wasn't that something she wished she could skip. She'd already gotten a feel of Dr. Oobleck and some of her other colleagues, and she could already tell they weren't her kind of people. (Doesn't help that one of them is basically the energizer bunny on crack. Thankfully Peach is a nice lady.)

Goodwitch hummed at that, crossing her legs and fully directing her attention to Akiza. She did the same, while trying not to blatantly look at the woman's rather nice legs. "Then how do you propose we start? It's no secret that we do not exactly like each other."

Akiza waved that off. "To be fair our first meeting was kind of shit."

Her coworker rolled her eyes at that. "Ah yes, meeting in an interrogation room after a street was set ablaze, truly a rather mundane first meeting." The sarcasm coming from the woman made Akiza's lips twitch. "But now that you bring it up I would like to apologize for that." Akiza raised a brow at that, though inwardly she started humming, a little surprised at this development. "I won't say I overreacted or anything of that manner, but I do apologize for how I acted." Well wasn't that a nice surprise?

Taking a moment to read and interpret her emotions, Akiza saw that she was being genuine. So, recognizing it as the olive branch that it was, she nodded. "Then I'll apologize for being as confrontational as I was." Glynda nodded at her, making Akiza smile. (This is a nice development.) And it re...-

"Now that we're having a proper conversation I would like to get this out out in the air now then let it fester." She blinked, not seeing this coming. "I am conflicted about you." Well that was a loaded statement. "I dislike how you suddenly appeared and were offered a position among Beacon's staff. A position that usually requires a resume of years of work experience and consistent reports of results and competency, things of which you can not provide." Well... She could see where the woman was coming from. It was basically the same thing the Arc was doing, but she had a legitimate reason for it...

One she was sure the woman knew with her choice of 'can not' instead of 'did or would not.' For a moment she wondered what Mother had discussed with her and Ozpin, but let the thought go after the woman kept talking. "Seeing that, accepting that, is essentially accepting that your circumstances allow you to skip over the years of work and effort I put in to reach where I am now." She saw the way Glynda clenched her firsts, Aura flickering for a moment before she let out a huff and shook her head. "And then there are your abilities as a Psychic."

Akiza mentally choked at that. (~MAMA?! WHAT DID YOU TELL THEM?!~) She got the mental equivalent of a 'I'll tell you later', which did not answer anything!

"I know you were born with powerful telekinesis, yet you need to understand." The disgruntled look she sent at her, as well as the jealousy she felt made Akiza pause. "My Semblance, a reflection of my very being, is something I take great pride in. Many Huntsman do the same, but my Semblance is truly my own... And then you come along." Ah, she could see where this was going, and she understood it. "Someone with telekinesis far stronger then my own, physically younger then I am," Yeah, she definitely knew. "And apparently staying on campus near the teacher's quarters without my knowledge? It's enough to make me jealous and dislike you on principle."

Akiza nodded, she really could understand Glynda's dislike for her. "But?" The blonde raised a brow at her, making Akiza roll her eyes. "You said you're feeling conflicted about me, and don't get me wrong I can understand your points, I really do, but none of that would lead you to feeling conflicted since it's all justified." She was petty and vindictive, but this was an understandable reaction so she didn't react much. (Though if she'd done anything or tried to undermine me then that'd be another story.)

Glynda nodded, uncrossing her legs and leaning towards Akiza as she did, Akiza's eyes reflexively flickering to the woman's cleavage for a moment before looking back... A movement Glynda caught, snorting but not saying anything about it. "You're correct. Seeing how you react and treat Ms. Rose impacted the image of you I was building in my mind, that familial affection couldn't be faked and raised my opinion of you whenever I witnessed it." Akiza smiled at that, both at how it affected her and also at the thought of her being affectionate towards Ruby. "And then there's what your Mother told us." That brought her out of it and back to the present. She wanted to interrupt and ask her what Mama told them, but held back since this was her first good interaction with Goodwitch, interrupting her now would be rude and counter intuitive. "She held much back, only giving us what she believed we needed to know, but it was enough to make me rethink some things."

That... Didn't tell her much, but it was enough for her to relax a bit. "And now?"

Glynda let out a breath, taking a few moments to stare at Akiza. She wasn't worried about it and stared right back. The stare down didn't last long, the blonde breaking it off with another huff. "Now I believe you are someone I can work with. Currently I do feel somewhat jealous of your innate abilities as a Psychic, as well as the gift of being my Assistant Professor, but in time I will get over it."

Akiza just stared at Glynda, feeling that the woman did intend to keep her word... And felt unsure of what to say here. Back in New Domino the only Humans she could genuinely say she respected were her family of Signers and Carly, and then here Goodwitch was admitting that she was jealous of Akiza, for good reason, but would actively work on being better about it. In her mind her opinion of the blonde beauty was going up...

And then she remembered what her Mother had said yesterday and realized this had to be part of what she talked about. (Huh... Alright, I'll see where this goes.) She registered the approval coming from her Mother but let it be, for now she had a woman that had potential to be one of her first friends outside her immediate family. Akiza gave said blonde a smile before reaching a hand out towards her. "Then how about we start over? Colleagues for now, friends later?"

Glynda looked at her hand for a bit before reaching out and grasping it with her own, a small smile on her face as she did. "Colleagues."

That done they ended the shake and shared a comfortable silence for a minute or so... Before she broke it by deciding to test the waters. "And maybe something more in the future?"

Glynda outright snorted at that. "It'll take far more then a single heart to heart for you to get in my pants Ms. Rhodonite."

Akiza grinned at that. "Akiza." Her blonde coworker hummed then inclined her head a bit, acknowledging that. "And I didn't hear a no in there Glynda."

She rolled her eyes. "Then let's hope you're good enough to make me say yes one day, Akiza."

Oh now that sounded like a challenge. "I believe you'll come to find 'yes' will be one of the most repeated worlds you'll be saying to me in the future." Glynda just smiled at her, eyes and Aura flashing in challenge while Akiza smiled back.

This wasn't how she saw today going, but by no means was she going to complain. If there was a chance to get a woman as good as Glynda to be her girlfriend then Akiza was going to go all in.

Now she and Glynda just had to make a proper lesson plan for their stude...- Red Rose Dragon appeared on her lap and started pleading for scritches... Akiza just had to take a moment to blink before reflexively scratching her cat dragon. "So that is a Spirit as well?" Then she remembered she wasn't alone and looked back up to see Glynda's curious and somewhat interested look. "Your Mother told us Spirits came in all forms, yet seeing it is something else."

Akiza blinked again. "About that, what exactly did Mama tell you? I've asked her but she won't tell me yet."

She must've said something funny since Glynda just smiled widely at her. "I believe I'll leave that to Ms. Celestine."

Her brow twitched and she was about to say something but then she had an idea. "What if I bribe you with cute monsters like Red Rose here?" Glynda's lips twitched but she didn't give in. "I can bring out cat and dog like monsters?" Another but much bigger twitch, which was also followed by a bit of temptation from the woman, so she could tell the offer did entice her. "Wh...-" She paused, looked down at Red Rose, who was blissfully unaware of what was going on around her as she got her scritches, then turned back to Glynda, who noticed the action. "What're your thoughts on having the kids fight some monsters I can summon?"

Safe to say they had quite a long conversation about the possibilities she'd just brought up.

So no canon changes to the teams, they are the same and so on. Though a change will be that Jaune is going to be aware that Beacon faculty knows and it's up to him to not get kicked out. Also while I might not like Jaune, this won't be a bashing fic, just pointing out his mistakes.

Also Akiza and Glynda talk, and since Glynda is a whole adult she can admit she made mistakes, while Akiza does the same. They'll still be snippy and competitive with each other, just more friendly.

Also an idea on how Combat class with Akiza is going to be like.
