Chapter 34
Chapter 31 Intensified
“So it’s that huh.”
Yukinoshita Yukino stood up and left after saying, “I’ll leave this to you, Yui-san.”
“Is Yukinoshita-san angry?” Ayaka Hozuki looked at her retreating figure with slight movement in her eyes, “Was I not progressing quickly enough again?”
“No, Yukino would never give up on helping someone she cares for. Besides, you’ve improved a lot already, Ayaka,” Yui Yuigahama guessed that Yukinoshita had gone to get the medical kit from the infirmary.
“In any case, let’s take a break first,” said Hachiman Hikigaya, supporting Ayaka to sit under the trees.
“It’d be better to clean the wound first.” Looking at the small abrasions on Ayaka’s knees covered by tiny dust particles, Hachiman called out to Zai Mu Zuo, “Zai-sama, can you go buy a bottle of mineral water? I’ll pay you back when you return.”
Despite joining late and not helping with Hozuki Ayaka’s intense training, Zai Mu Zuo had at least come up with names for their exercises, which served some purpose.
“Leave it to me!”
Zai Mu Zuo raised his thumb. Even in today’s scorching weather, he was still wearing a thick brown coat as if it were a kind of obsession. He shook off his coat’s hem, giving a dashing look before others, yet in just two steps, he ran back hurriedly.
“Hachiman! Guests have arrived uninvited!”
Hachiman turned to see a group of people heading toward the tennis court. Leading them were two blond-haired people from his class: Hayama Hayato and Miura Yumiko.
“Hayama and Miura…” His eyelids twitched involuntarily. Running into Hayama at this time was rarely good news.
As expected, Miura’s voice reached them soon, “Ah, they’re playing tennis! Hayato, I also want to play tennis~”
Hachiman turned towards the trio of Yui, Yui, and Yui, and to his surprise, they were looking at him simultaneously.
Looks like I’ll have to mediate…
Sighing in resignation, Hachiman attempted to reason with them, “That land was used by Tsubaki’s request, so no one else can use it.”
“What? You’re using it right now?” Miura crossed her arms and said.
“We are, as part of his training session, more or less.”
“What gibberish are you speaking? How disgusting!”
Miura restlessly played with the golden hair and pulled Hayato’s arm playfully, “Hayato, I want to play tennis~”
Tsk, that gold-digger!
Hachiman watched silently as the two interacted.
Even though he barely knew the likes of Hayama, he understood Hayama well. Seeing Hayama’s resigned smile with Miura clinging to him, Hachiman knew he would have to resort to his cunning arguments.
“You know, it’s better to have fun together. How about that?” asked Hayato, turning to Hachiman.
“Together? As in everyone saying they have something and wanting it too? This place doesn’t have that.” His deep tone held a mocking edge, “Hayato, I know you’re good-looking and popular among girls.”
“What’s this all of a sudden?” Hayato seemed caught off guard by the sudden attack. There was a hint of discomfort in his face.
“Why would a rich person demand a scarce space from someone struggling like me?”
Speaking, he pinned Hayato with a dead-fish stare, which produced a faint sense of pressure on Hayato.
But he didn’t care. Glancing at Miura momentarily, he suggested, “Why don’t we settle it through a match? The winner uses the court. Obviously, we will help Tsubaki practice too. Practicing with someone strong helps more, right?”
Hayato’s suggestion seemingly made things balanced, but it essentially allowed for double gains without any logic.
It didn’t matter. Hachiman nodded in agreement.
“That sounds exciting; how about mixed doubles?” exclaimed Miura cheerfully.
“You decide.” Hachiman picked up a racquet, not concerned with numbers.
“What! Do you really think you’re that impressive? Underestimating me so much!” Naturally, Miura was instantly infuriated.
Hachiman shrugged, neither denying nor confirming.
“Very well then, let’s see what you’ve got! Don’t cry if you lose badly!” Miura laughed sarcastically.
“Doesn’t seem like anything’s wrong, Yumiko won at middle school netball tournament,” Yui came closer, worried for Hachiman.
“Don’t worry,” Hachiman replied calmly, “We’ll win.”
Previously, he wouldn’t dare appear overly confident. But times had changed, a fact proven by his rising curse energy.
Sadly, nobody was aware of this change.
After learning the control over curse energy from Lin Qi, Hachiman’s personality subtly shifted.
Looking to the sky sadly, he thought to himself, “Hayato, don’t blame me for being deceitful.”
He grew incredibly strong now!
Meanwhile, Yukinoshita carrying a medical kit she acquired from the infirmary headed back. In her mind, Lin Qi’s voice echoed.
Seems like your sister isn’t keeping such a close watch on you now; you can make use of this time after school.
If you come home too late, you might get suspicious.
“That means during club activities. If there’s no request for service, it’s free time. We can head out. Starting from around the school grounds, we can clear low-level cursed spirits and search for special-grade cursed spirits.”
“What about the Service Club?”
“You think ‘Dead Fish Eye’ and busty lady are capable of handling everything?”
Having reprimanded Lin Qi on addressing her properly, Yukinoshito deemed the plan feasible.
The walk from the infirmary to the tennis court quickly passed with light conversation.
Upon reaching the tennis court, Lin Qi saw Hachiman and two unknown male and female figures practicing, even utilizing curse energy for physical reinforcement—an embarrassment!
How disgraceful to use such an unfair tactic against ordinary people! Is that how you should be using your curse power? Is that how I taught you?
Noticing one of the unfamiliar male players closely resembled someone, and realizing it was Hayato!
Great, Hachiman, keep it up!
Intensify!
