Chapter 621: Someone I Valued
(From Blue's Perspective)
I saw Demian. He was fine. At least, for now. I saw him when someone took me to the dining hall.
"Look, we look like a proper family," Azure said.
Demian looked scared, probably for the first time in his life. He looked at me uncertainly. I checked him with my eyes for any sign of injury and he probably did the same. He looked at me up and down and sighed in visible relief.
"Don't delude yourself, Azure. We don't look like a family. My husband and other children are somewhere else. Without them, it can't be a family," I said as I sat down.
"Come now, my darling daughter. Do you want me to bring them here too?"
"Why don't you just admit that you are lonely?" I asked.
"I must say, I am a little lonely. I have two children and none of them visit me."
I laughed bitterly. "Visit you? Is that why you kidnapped me and my son?"
"I told you before, Blue. I did not kidnap your son. He came here on his own accord. Ask him. He will tell you."
I looked at Demian sharply.
He nodded. "I did, but not entirely. He… He led me. He told me he would teach me how to use my power properly because you won't," Demian said. He was talking uncertainly like a little child would. For the first time, I wanted to slap him.
"You see? I was not lying," Azure said, holding up his hands as if he was completely innocent and I was wrong to even question him.
I rolled my eyes. The food arrived. I was hungry, so I dug in. I eyed the glass of red wine suspiciously. He once served me blood as wine before.
"Don't worry. It's wine."
Demian was also served wine. That was not a problem because our children were served drinks at the dinner table often. It was Dem's idea. According to him, if we did not make alcohol a big deal, it would not be something of an interest to our children. So, when they turned twelve, we served them a bit of wine or champagne.
"Even if it wasn't wine, I don't think you would mind, right?" Azure said, looking straight at me. He knew. He knew I drank blood. He knew I killed for blood.
I pretended not to hear him. I could feel Demian's eyes on me, but I did not look at him. I could not have him find this out here. Not in front of Azure. Azure would only make things worse.
"We don't drink blood at home," Demian said.
"Trust me, your mother does," Azure said.
'Shit!'

"Mum doesn't drink blood. What is she? An animal?" Demian scoffed.
"We need blood sometimes to quench our thirst and desire," Azure said. "Isn't that right, Blue dear?"
Demian turned to me, his eyes demanding an answer I could not give him.
"I don't want to talk about it," I said.
"Why? Because you want to hide the truth from your son like you always do? Hide the truth and make things hard for all of your children? Especially Demian, since he has even more black mana than you?" Azure was clearly taunting Demian. Demian was still a child. Could he even see through Azure's tricks? Or, would he fall for them?
"Did your mother ever warn you about the dangers that might be caused in case you don't quench your thirst? She did not, did she?"
Demian was still staring at me. I felt sick.
"That's enough!" I slapped my hand down on the table.
"She is still trying to hide everything from you. Your mother thinks by hiding these things from you, she can make you normal when you are anything but that. You are special, Demian. Even among dark mages, you are special."
"Just because I didn't tell my son everything doesn't mean I want to hide those things from him forever. I will tell him when the time comes. Why do I have to dump all these information on him when he doesn't even need to know them?" I said. "Yes, Demian, I have been drinking blood. Yes, I killed to drink their blood. And yes, I hate myself for it. Every single day, every single moment, I hate myself for doing them. But that's just who I am. If you think I will apologize for hiding this from you and your siblings, then you are wrong. I won't. I am not sorry for protecting you from a harsh truth. Why do you need to know your mother is a monster?"
"You are not a monster, darling," Azure said. "You are beautiful and gorgeous. Drinking blood, killing… Why are they considered bad? Your husband killed a lot of werewolves during wars. He killed men who tried to get close to you without your knowledge. Why is it considered bad when you kill them for your needs? It's not like you are doing it for fun. None of us are doing it for fun."
Azure was trying to mess with my mind as well. But I knew him too well. I would not fall for his tricks. Not even when I thought he was telling the truth.
I finished eating. I basically had to force myself to not gag and just keep eating. I was hungry, but I lost all my sense of appetite. However, I had to eat to not be sick and have a terrible vertigo.
After the meal, Demian was sent to his room while Azure accompanied me to mine.
"Your son is special. I will make him realize that since you never did even though you should have," he said.
"You should write a book on childcare since you know so much about raising children."
"Are you angry at me because I didn't do anything when Lloid tried to have his way with you?" Azure asked.
"You probably told him to do it," I said.
"What am I? A monster? I found out about it later." If he thought I believed him, he was wrong. "Come now, darling. I care about consent. I value it. That's why I am telling you to give me a grandchild instead of forcing you to do it with someone."
"I need my husband for that, I told you. Besides, I don't want any more children. I have three and that's enough."
"Yes, you do," he said with a smile. I shuddered internally. "You will do what I tell you, Blue dear, because I have someone you value so much."
